Long before the covid lockdown, I started getting lazy about keeping up my hair. I stopped mixing…read moremy custom color and went to the boxed kind, and trimmed it myself. During the past few months, I got really tired of coloring every 3 weeks! Trouble is, my grey isn't coming in nicely - I had the skunk stripe going on. So I guess it's fair to say I was totally ready for a big change. A dear friend has been coming to Mason & Friends for years, and I love her hair, so I called to book an appointment. I had to most lovely chat with Kiera (sorry if the spelling is wrong!) and when I explained my "problem", she said she believed Theresa would be my best stylist. WOW!!! I was really blown away by my wonderful experience. First, the sheer size of the space is something I've never seen before in a salon. Next, I hit it off right away with Theresa and we ended up chatting like old friends. She gave me a couple of options of how to "gracefully" grow out the grey. I chose to just go with a super short cut like I've had a few times before. She was 100% accurate on how losing the long hanks of fading red would make the short cut look like I added high- and low-lights on purpose. Well, please look at the photos and you can see how right she was!! Bri did my shampoo and was just lovely to chat with, as well. She checked with me on the water temp and made sure I was comfortable the whole time. Theresa was constantly explaining and checking that I really felt OK about losing such long hair - and I kept assuring her I was ready for a big change. Also that since I've had it super short several times in my life, it wasn't going to be a shock. What WAS a shock was how epic it turned out!!! As predicted, the tri-color look was gone completely and it really does look as if I just had tones added to my natural hair. I haven't treated myself in a very long time, and this was a truly wonderful treat for me. Including the shampoo tip (hint: take cash to put in your shampoo person's jar on the counter), it was $74 and worth every penny.

Here is why: 1) I respect any woman who books all of her own appointments herself, washes and blowdries your hair herself, and then styles your hair. There was no shampoo assistant in other words. This is a very hardworking lady! 2) Shanni was warm, friendly, and professional without being 'over the top". She's a normal, chill woman earning a living. 3) Shanni has 1 stylists chair in her salon where YOU the client sit, while Shanni styles your hair. You can watch the tv she has on. Having the opportunity to sit one on one with her made me feel very comfortable. When you go to most salons you will see everyone in there getting their hair done. Shanni puts ALL of her FOCUS and ATTENTION on YOU during your time with her. I was AMAZED by this. 4) Shanni took her time braiding my hair for the weave install. This stylist took HOURS on my hair, and not once did she rush or burn me when using the flat iron. 5) Shanni provided me with a complimentary bottle of water upon request. 6) Her tone when speaking to me was very respectful and never dismissive. 7) My hair was done perfectly. My own husband could tell how pleased I was by the look on my face. I have had horrific experiences with other stylists. Shanni was truly a breath of fresh air! 8) Her skill level was top tier! The way in which she braided my hair and did the sew in was definitely customized to my head. Thank you Shanni! I can't wait to book again.

5/2/25: Yelp seems to have a photo issue. To see all screenshots and harassment, my Google Guide…read morereview includes those: https://g.co/kgs/LttMo7h While I did not fully read this business owner's rambling, incoherent response, I did scan it briefly and saw she suggested that she told me to see a dermatologist. Interesting since I've long had one and use prescription shampoo from my dermatologist at my hair appointments. A cosmetology license would be useful, and might teach this unlicensed stylist that spreading lies about a person's health online is additional grounds for harassment charges. This is the last warning I will give before contacting law enforcement. I also would never take medical advice from a self-professed conspiracy theorist who by her own admission does not vaccinate her children, during a time when measles is spreading in the U.S, more than we've seen in decades -- an outbreak that began due to unvaccinated children in Texas. I was not going to elaborate on the damage, but seems I should. My LICENSED hair stylist friend had to remove glue out of most of my hair. I have photos and videos of my hair previously -- before this unlicensed stylist talked me into trying a frontal. I have new hair loss all over my head because the glue was extremely difficult to remove, See attached photo. The frontal install was terrible and showed lack of skill because my real hair was not protected. My licensed hair stylist friend is willing to testify about this damage and said he knew this person was unlicensed by the terrible frontal/sew-in install. Now off to enjoy my weekend! I originally did not share all of my documentation but this person seems unhinged. I will let the evidence speak for itself. I am done with this unlicensed stylist -- unless it becomes clear I need to contact law enforcement and file for for a peace order, which I'm seriously considering. I will include the screenshots from her last unhinged response if I do so. Potential customers: Ask yourself if this is the temperament you want in a hair stylist -- someone willing to slander clients online for telling the truth about how they were treated. -- 5/1/25 Adding additional screenshots to refute more lies from this business owner, who continues to not take accountability. I will not reply further, as a "business" that operates this way is not worth my time. The way she speaks says more than any additional info I can provide.

But the front desk spa staff said that the pass was only for the day of and when I asked at the main front desk some of the staff whom I assume was management hanging out at the desk rudely also told me that it was for the day of like I was trying to take advantage of them or something. Was that really neccessary? I didnt have my gym gear but I went to the women's locker room couch and vegged/relaxed. Then I got something at the not busy too cafe which I got to go which took more time than it should. When I got home, I opened the meal and it was the wrong order but completely delicious so I devoured it. I looked at their website just now and it turns out they charge 40 bucks for a gym daypass and 120 monthly for a one person membership. ouchy owie. I would go to the spa again but never pay for gym membership.
