Pros: * Dr. Butterman has decades of experience & does great work, gently & doesn't push patients for extra procedures they don't want or need. Staff is equally as professional & accommodating & don't pummel you with personal q's trying to put you at ease... for me, that tactic has the opposite effect, where I feel like I'm not only at the dentist about to be picked & prodded, but interrogated first... just say 'hello', do the work as efficiently & effectively & quietly as possible & let me leave, please. * He will provide prescriptions for pills (about $15), so a patient can be sedated/sleeping during procedures. I'm so dental-phobic at this point, due to past experiences with inexperienced dentists, I even sweat through cleanings, so this is a must for me. (Note: For new patients or someone looking for IV sedation, very few drs do it because it requires a nurse to remain the entire time to monitor vitals & of course, there's more chance of side effects with the patient, so they simply avoid it. I had to call 8 local dentists to find someone who did IV sedation & it cost $400+ for the nurse + several hundred more for the IV... forget it. I was fine with the pills, which knocked me out cold & still requires staff to place a cuff on the arm to monitor blood pressure for the entire procedure & I'm not paying extra. Lastly, it does require that you visit once before sedation to have BP taken... so plan for 2 visits total... your exam, xrays & vitals, then the procedure/s.) * Plenty of parking & they even let me leave my car overnight, as I live 100-mi away & had to have a local friend pick me up & bring me to a nearby hotel, then back the next morning to retrieve my car for the long drive home. As a further note, you cannot leave in an Uber or cab, since they won't send you away with a stranger, if you've been sedated... that's normal for every dentist. * If you need crowns, he makes them in-house, same day. Again, for those dental phobic or whose schedules won't allow multiple appts, this is a huge bonus. * High tech office means it doesn't take 20+ min for 15-30 xrays. You stand with a 'bite' on the front teeth & a machine circles your head & takes all the xrays you'll need in less than 20-seconds. I did need 2 extra xrays when in the chair, but that's due to needing all my work on multiple teeth/crowns on multiple molars on 3 quadrants. Cons: * The only real con? Cost. He's at least 25-30% higher than every other dentist I've visited. I used to live in SoCal, Boston & NYC & his fees are on par with those costs. * It did take wks in-between appts. He only does surgery at 8am, so those morning slots fill up quickly, it seems. I was initially scheduled 3-wks out, then bumped up to 2-wks after a cancellation. Maybe not a big deal to others, but being dental phobic, I want to get the grueling procedures over with immediately, if not sooner, so waiting 2-wks meant it was on my mind, daily. :( I generally go to any dentist for a cleaning (especially as I travel & move a lot), when I get a flyer for a $59 exam/cleaning/xrays, but I've found they do a non-thorough, cursory cleaning... & I'm someone who takes OCD care of my teeth, so they've never been in terrible shape or needed deep cleaning. I've had cleanings where I've left & felt I needed another, no kidding. They also ambush me with a long list of procedures I "need", sometimes things I'd already had done recently... so these ploys & gimmicks (lies, essentially) are only to bring you in to pickpocket you. So, I'm done with the carnival barkers who promise thorough work for an extremely discounted fee... it doesn't happen. His cleaning is $114 + extra for an exam & xrays (I don't remember the breakdown, cuz I recently had $5K in work... several hundred to be sure in total), but I think in the future, I'll be seeing his hygienist for cleanings, because my teeth feel brand new when I leave. Additionally: I've seen Butterman twice on referral from a friend... once in 2014 & 2019, both times for crowns, fillings & cleanings under sedation. The 1st time I lived 3-mi away, but he was so good & I was so nervous going to anyone else, even though I'm 100-mi away, I returned in Jan for work. I knew it would cost 4-mos rent (& about $1,500 less if going locally), but at least I had peace of mind knowing I'd receive good work & care. I list prices as I'm self-pay... hopefully, if/when I need work again, I'll have dental insurance. I don't know how much of his costs are covered by your dental plan, but if you call, they're very patient & helpful & knowledgeable. You won't be unhappy with the work, but depending upon your financial status, the costs may sting. 5* out of 5. The best dentist I've seen. read more

Dr. Butterman and his entire staff are "Top Notch"!! They were able to get me in for an emergency crown just 2 days before I was leaving on vacation. They were able to manufacture the crown in their office and had me out of there within the hour. Irene the office manager is a rock star when it comes to insurance needs and coverages all with a smile. For a guy that grew up in total fear of going to the dentist, the Butterman team actually makes it enjoyable. I had a wonderful experience at Butterman Dental. I didn't even make it to the waiting room chair! They were prompt, courteous and let me know exactly what to expect during my appointment. I needed an old crown replaced and a front cap, too. I was slightly apprehensive about the procedure and how I would look afterwards. The whole thing went better than I could've hoped for! They were able to take out the problematic crown and cap, and manufacture new ones SO FAST! They did an incredible job and I am so very happy with the results. I never felt any pain or discomfort. Good dentist; terrible reception. Denise at the front desk is the rudest, most ignorant and unprofessional receptionist I have ever met. NOT TO BE CONFUSED BY THE OTHER RECEPTIONIST WHO IS SO SWEET AND KIND! They have a rule that if you cancel/reschedule 3 times you won't be able to book in advance again. Makes sense! Unfortunately, I had two fluke emergencies that took up my first two reschedules. So the day I realized I had food poisoning and it was not just a cold, I hesitantly called up trying to explain that I was very unwell and wasn't up for getting my fillings done... but I was still having a lot of pain in my gums on the other side and wanted to instead use my appointment time to make sure I didn't have a mild case of gingivitis or something else. Denise, after insulting me and treating me like a complete moron because I didn't want my face numbed and teeth drilled at while I was already feeling awful, gave me an ultimatum. I could only come in for the filling or I would have to cancel and never book in advance again. She didn't stop to pause; didn't consult with anyone. She must've had the worst day ever because patience, empathy and professionalism didn't exist in her world. I ended up biting the bullet and canceled; giving into her manipulation and bitchiness because I didn't want to deal with it while I was feeling so sick. I hung up and just cried. I had never felt so insulted by a silly secretary. I'm smart and kind and have never had an issue like this?? My partner saw this and ended up calling back to tell her how unprofessional she was since I'm not a confrontational person and didn't have the energy. I also didn't feel like it would get anywhere based on how inconsiderate and air-headed she seemed. I was right. My partner called up calmly telling her how he didn't appreciate how she treated me- it was rude and unprofessional and he would like to speak to someone else about this. She proceeded to spew shit out of her own ass. "I own the office, there's no one above me," she said. She wouldn't let Dr. Butterman or another receptionist or assistant know or let him call me back at a convenient time for him. She just insisted she was the boss and there was nothing he could do. It was so obvious she was lying, but we did some research anyways- yeah, definitely is just a receptionist with no other power or say. My partner, also incredibly confused why and how someone was so rude and hostile towards a known and liked client, asked if she had ever worked retail. This was to see if it was another case of human indecency because they'd never had to deal with certain situations and rude, ignorant people acting like herself. She immediately came back with, "How old are you? Do you even have a job?" My partner is very humble and didn't want to say what I was thinking- that he is 27, an entrepreneur that works 20x harder than she does in capacities she doesn't even know of and makes, literally, 9x her pay. He was just very taken aback and asked her how that's relevant at all. She laughed in the most condescending, bitchy way I have ever heard. Needless to say, we are never going back and I will be telling all of my friends, family, and own clients in our line of work to avoid this place at all costs. Sorry, Dr. Butterman. read more

I came to Dr Butterman and his crew in extreme need of a complete overhaul of my teeth. At 44, most of my teeth had fallen out due to bone degeneration over the years. I had to have full extractions of all of my teeth and dentures made. My extreme terror of every piece of the procedure was rampant in me, but Dr Butterman and his staff put me so much at ease every time, explaining each step and what I could expect in the near future and in the next procedure that my fear was eased each time. They are so very caring, knowledgable and supportive along the way that I would highly, highly recommend Dr Butterman and his whole office to everybody.
