Stopped by the Shelbyville Fountain while walking around downtown and it ended up being a really…read morenice little highlight. It's not anything huge, but it adds a lot of charm to the area and gives the square a relaxed, welcoming feel. The sound of the water makes it a good spot to slow down for a few minutes, especially on a nice day. The surrounding area is clean and well kept, and it's a solid place to sit, take a quick break, or snap a few pictures. It's definitely more of a "while you're there" kind of stop rather than a destination on its own, but it does exactly what it's supposed to do adds character to downtown Shelbyville. Only reason it's not a full five stars is there's not much else going on right at the fountain itself, but overall it's a pleasant, easy stop that makes the area feel more complete.

Erected at intersection of 5th and Main Streets in 1895. Restored in 1992 on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Shelby County and Shelbyville with contributions from Kentucky Bicentennial Commission, Shelbyville Water & Sewer Commission, Mosses Ruben Fund for Shelby County, Shelby County Fiscal Court." The historical marker nearby reads, "This fountain was purchased jointly in 1895 by city and county from J. L. Mott Iron Works, New York. It was erected at intersection of Fifth and Main Sts. upon the completion of Shelbyville's first public water works. Moved in 1914 to public square to clear the street after construction of new courthouse. Figure chosen for top of fountain is "Atlantis" pattern."
