I was delighted when I found the reviews for Jens' magic bus berlin business. I was able to book a 2+ hour tour of the city with Jens for myself, my sister and my Mom. It was so fun driving around in his 1970s restored van and getting a personal tour of the city from someone who was knowledgeable about the city's history and could give us his own stories about growing up in Berlin when the wall was still up. Jens started the tour with a brief history of the city and then we took off. Along the way he did a great job of showing up photos of "before" photos to give us a sense of how much the city has changed. He also pointed out all the places where the wall had previously stood as we drove around. I highly recommend that instead of going on the hop on/ hop off bus you hire Jens instead!

One interesting fact not noted by the tour guide was that wherever the Wall previously stood, and a street has been paved over the spot, a line of red bricks have been set into the pavement to permanently indicate where it stood. With the 2.10 Euro ticket you trip can last up to 2 hours which means that you can get out at any stop and proceed your journey with the next bus. And for 6.30 Euro you can travel Bus, S-Bahn and U-Bahn in the zones A and B the whole daylong. Anyway if you start at Alexanderplatz, you will drive past the TV tower, Lustgarten & Museumsinsel / Museums island, Berliner Dom, Humboldt-University, and State Opera (from which it's just a 5 Minute walk to one of the most beautiful Berliner squares Gendarmenmarkt). You will see almost the whole Unter den Linden street. The bus will stop right in front of the Reichstag, from which you can walk to the Brandenburger Tor, Pariser Platz and the Memorial For the Murdered Jews of Europe. From the bus you will catch the sight of the Bundeskanzleramt, Haus der Kulturen der Welt/ House of the Cultures of the World, Schloss Bellevue, Siegessäule/ Victory Column, and Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche/ Memory Church. Mind that most times of the day the bus is as full with people as a cucumber with seeds. No wonder as for many tourists it is the best way to explore Berlin. Take the S-Bahn to get back to the Alexanderplatz and to enjoy a couple of nice views of Berlin or may be to get out at the Hackescher Markt for a relaxing beer in one of the hundrends of street cafes. It would be too much effort to file a formal complaint so I YELP. My brief research with the competition. Be Berlin has an app to trek buses. Another company breaks it off into 2 separate routes so you don't have to go a full 2.5 hours if you want to stop in a certain quarter. However, maybe due to the yellow color I noticed this bus more often than the others.

She is one of the best tour guides I've yet encountered and I've taken a hell of a lot of tours. She speaks very clearly (we're both native speakers of American English, so that helped as well), projects her voice well, and almost always speaks with clear intention. I never felt she was wasting our time with too much detail or circular talking; the pacing of the route and stops worked very well. She did a great job managing the group, making clear where we were going and where we should stand to see and hear everything while not blocking pedestrian traffic. She encouraged questions and made the experience interactive, which kept us fully engaged the whole time. At no point was I bored or wondering when the tour would end; in fact, I was surprised at the end of both tours that 3 hours had already flown by. Hannah did a great job of demonstrating the modern relevance of history and exploring the conflicting interests and biases of the people involved in historical events. A lot of this history is very heavy, particularly on the Third Reich tour, and she gave it all the gravity and respect it deserves. I highly recommend these tours, especially for history-lovers.

As long as you keep your ticket, you can jump off anywhere on the route, see what you want and catch the next bus to continue on your trip. Knowing this, you must catch the early bus and make a day of it. You learn so much and see sights which you may have missed had you been on foot. Don't forget to pick up your mapwhen you get your ticket. Some hotels sell the tickets in advance but since we were staying at the Westin Grand we only had to cross the road. What a relief it was to get my passport back. The van Johannes uses is very comfortable, and he stocks cold drinks in case you get thirsty. You can shape your tours based on your interests. Our itinerary included a trip through the countryside to view Bablesberg castle and park- what an idyllic place! Then we traveled to Potsdam to view some of the reconstructed buildings. After that, we saw the water pump (which looks like a mosque and powered the fountains at Sanssouci), and we got our tickets for our tour. As we had time before our tour, we ate lunch in the old Dutch quarter- at the Flying Dutchman (delicious!). Our tour of Sanssouci was marvelous, and we never could have seen so much, and learned so much, so pleasantly, without our guide Johannes.

She was nice enough to stay with me until the bus came. Was told 15 minutes, but was definitely at least 30 minutes and closer to 45 minutes. Once ok the bus couldn't hear the guide. The bus was rattling and I felt every bump, which did not help competing with the speakers being used by the guide. The wind didn't help either, but more so the suspension and creaky bus played a major role in not hearing the guide. Was provided a map with the route but I wouldn't trust it. Lots of changes in the route and once you get dropped off, good luck getting picked up. Was told where to get picked up only to see a bus take a different route than what I was told by a tour representative from the company and different from the map route. Had to walked back to my original pick up spot since I didn't want to wait 30 minutes (assuming more) for the next bus. (Also didn't know where next drop off spot was.) Best part was probably getting some sleep on the bus from my overnight train ride. Couldn't hear anything from the guide anyways! From the moment Glen introduced himself, he shepherded our group from site to site, finding us shady spots whenever he could whilst sharing his voluminous historical, cultural, and cultural knowledge of Berlin and Germany. He also used multimedia very effectively to explain the sites and sights. His knowledge of Berlin and Germany is matched perhaps only by his love and respect for both--the latter of which was particularly manifest when he explained the book burning site, the location of Hitler's bunker, and the Holocaust memorial. I toured Berlin for 4 hours on a Segway!…read more I had never been on a segway before, but they fully train you and it truly becomes second nature after only a few minutes practice. Soon were zipping about, moving from walkway to street and back. The Segway enabled us to cover an incredible amount to territory and sites. The guide was an absolute scream. He was so incredibly funny and his humor kept my attention such that I actually learned and retained more than if I just heard someone reciting dull facts. Our group was small, only four of us plus the guide and that made it intimate and personal. lots of opportunities to stop for photos and questions. I'm looking forward to returning to Berlin this summer and doing it again! Well worth the money.
