City Scene Magazine calls itself 'Columbus' arts, entertainment, and style' magazine, but if you…read moreeven skim the pages, you'll see it's more about the home than anything else. The target audience seems to be middle-aged. In each issue, you'll find several articles on new gadgets for the home, spotlights on different home features (ie staircases), and wine reviews. They throw in a fashion article or two, usually with questionable tips, and they lace the back five pages with a scattering of exhibit openings. It's not exactly what you'd expect to find by looking at the cover. The articles are a bit uninspired and anemic. More than 50% of the magazine is advertisement, which I understand; they need to cover their costs. The magazine runs about 68 pages per issue. You won't find any arts or entertainment info in City Scene that you wouldn't find elsewhere (and in a more interesting format), and that's why I choose to read other magazines to keep up with the city's pulse.

I have worked with them on advertising and I was very unhappy with my results. I didn't get great results after a few 'runs' with them. When I explained that I didn't wish to continue I felt like I was attacked that I wasn't tracking my customers. I'm sorry - but it's my business, I believe I should know, more than you, what I am doing to find out where my advertising money is best spent. I was appalled at their egotistical behavior and better than you attitude. No thank you!

For over twenty…read moreyears they've been pumping out detailed articles with corresponding pictures telling about every new business, every change in leadership, every district discussion, every everything. If you want to be in the know about the Short North, read the Gazette. Even better, if you need to go back in time to answer a question, use the Gazette's website. (Or just use it for fun; you'll learn a lot of interesting things.) The website has all the old articles, and though they're not 100% accurate, they're usually pretty close. Even when you do a Google search, the Gazette usually pops up between the first and third spot with an article. The website also has a great A-Z directory of businesses in the district. It's mostly up-to-date, and I like that they keep the addresses of old businesses on there for quite a while too or the old locations if a business moves. Sometimes that stuff comes in handy. The only bad things about the website are that the photos and info on the homepage don't change very often and the site itself has some pretty shoddy layout, but when you have a small staff, you don't have much time to focus your energy on a website. The hardcopy publication comes out once a month. I like the hardcopy print better just because I like being able to hold something tangible in my hands. I even like getting a little newsprint on me from time to time. But the web/hardcopy combo is helpful in many situations.

When I asked about it I was told I signed up for some deluxe thing that included puzzle books and such. Never received anything like this. I just get the Saturday and Sunday paper and I always have for 25 or so years. The supervisor I spoke with was rude and spoke to me like I was a 5 year old. So for the first time in over 2nd years I will not be a subscriber to the columbus dispatch.

Other than glossy photos and few write-ups on Columbus night spots this magazine serves as the…read morejournal for The Columbus Young Professional's Club. That said, subscribe and keep it on your desk at work or read in front of your coworkers to let everyone know that you are a professional and take your job serious! No matter what you do for work this 30 something club has a lot to offer. If you still can't function without your college club, team, sorority or fraternity this group can fill that void. They play sports, take trips, compete in scavenger hunts, participate in walk-a-thons...etc. Or in my case if you like free drinks and a night out to meet other c-bus socialites join the club!

I started reading C-BUS Magazine with their Fall 2006 Dining Issue and thought I had found a great…read morelocal magazine that dealt mostly in restaurant reviews. And while every issue has had some kind of local food review, each issue seems to focus more and more on Young Professionals in Columbus. I am young, but I am in no way a professional and I feel increasingly alienated from this publication. I'll still pick it up to enjoy reviews, but I am certainly not in their designated demographic.
