I had wanted to find something unique, but local to take back as gifts. It's very rare to find hand made things anymore, so when I saw this store's specialty was hand painted clogs, I got excited. There's definitely nothing like this where I live. The clogs were all wooden with leather, and all hand painted. The owner was very friendly and I'm sure he was surprised to meet someone all the way from Hawaii in his shop. I found the perfect pair of clogs for my daughter, and these should last a long time. I saw a customer come in with a pair of clogs to repair. Evidently, the shop will fix up a pair you bought years ago. Cool! In addition to clogs, they also sold Dalahäst (Dalecarlian) horses, which come from the province of Dalarna, and are famous and a symbol of Sweden now. No two are alike, as they are all hand carved and painted. They were pricey, but I would pay for the quality and knowing I had a unique hand crafted product, instead of a cheap knock off mass produced in China. They made for great stories and gifts. This is another store in which I look forward to visiting again in the future. Who knows, maybe in a few years I may be able to bring my clogs in to be repaired.

To be fair, Beyond Retro has so many different stuff, classified in colours. I bet this is a second hand shop paradise in Malmö if you're really into it. Price is somewhat fair, but we came here during two-day Christmas sale where they cut the price massively making the offer irresistible, but still being the picky me, I couldn't find anything for my taste here. The men's clothing is on the left side of the entrance, all the way to the dressing room while the women's take more space on the right side of the entrance. You can find jeans, dresses, coats, up to fur coats! (not sure if they're real or not), to bags, shoes including ugly Christmas sweater. As long as you're patient and willing to browse thru the many items they have, you'd probably find something, as for me - I don't have the patience, besides I'm very picky with what I wear. Sorry. Blame me for the climate change or the decline in environmental health or whatever for not shopping second hand, but still this is a place to go if you're really into it. It's located in a small sort of mall with a couple of shops inside called Mitt Möllan, and it's close to Södervärn station.

The two first floors have women's clothes, then one floor for children and the top floor for men. Despite it being big I rarely find things for myself here so not sure if the selection is slightly different here. Some might call that quaint - I call it a pain in the back, literally. Anyways, the kids enjoy it because they have a bucket of marbles that seems to be a favorite of theirs. It was nice to see the "record shop culture" is truly universal. The owners couldn't have been any cooler, and man do they know their stuff. Even if you may not be a fan or follower of a certain type of music, a record store owner will still know all about it. As soon as we came in and did our introductions, the owner (knowing my friend is a hip hop DJ) pulls out a record he just got in, and played a "break" for him. My friend is a pro, yet he had never heard this break before. And that is the beauty of the record shop. You can listen to music for decades, and yet there will always be something you don't know about. Whether you dig for it yourself, or the shop owner will bust something out to show you- the finding of a new gem is an amazing feeling, and what keeps you digging for more, never ending. This shop had a wide range of genres, not to mention an impressive amount of music, for the size of the store. It was broken down into three rooms. There was also a very nice selection of 45s (7") as well. Had I not been moving on to Denmark and Russia after Sweden, I would have walked out of there with a huge stack of records. Another surprise I saw was a good amount of cassette tapes, which for good or bad is starting to make a come back as well. I can't wait to get back to this shop again, so I can have a proper dig, and be able to bring some of it home.

It is mostly made up of clothing chains but there are some good specialty shops (also chains) in between like Webhallen, Clas Ohlson, and Lagerhaus. There is even a small pet store (more like a kiosk) in case you forgot to get the cat's food and you're on the way home. Though most of the building is boring, there is a beautiful wall of plants next to L'Occitane. If only there was more of that! It is right next to the train station, the bathrooms are clean (and unisex), and there are over 15 places to eat so it's not the worst place to make a pit stop.

I actually thought it would just self die when more and more stores started shutting down and the shopping centers outside the city grew stronger. The turnaround came with the new station at triangeln. It also meant that this mall got a much needed renovation so part if it now looks modern and airy. That has to some extent revitalized it but the selection of stores is still the normal stuff you will find in most Swedish malls so a it boring. A few new food places have also opened up but also there very little excites, still it is a vast improvement compared to what it was.
