One of the most beautiful buses in the city in terms of the route and things to see, the number 42 starts off at Cours de lîle Seguin and goes to Gare-Saint Lazare. It calls at the Eiffel Tower, Champ De Mars and the iconic Champs-Élysées to name a few.
It's worth noting that you must have a ticket before you board as the drivers don't sell tickets, there isn't a conductor either. This is the same with all Paris buses which make no sense, you can only buy them from train and metro stations - I don't know if it is a new thing due to the pandemic but how does a pandemic stop people selling cards and issuing tickets? It's ridiculous.
Views of the Arc de Triomphe and Champs-Élysées Garden make this route even more special.
As with all Parisian buses, they're often old and single-deckers only, right now you get on at the front and scan your ticket for the driver, and get off at the rear which has an automatic ramp for disabled passengers, the whole concept is similar to London - apart from not being able to buy a ticket on the bus. At least London accepts cards!
It isn't the fastest way around the city with the traffic and crazy traffic roads but it is one of the most accessible, compared to the Metro which is one of the worst I've ever seen with only one line fully step-free.
If you're looking to save some money and see Paris rather than an open-top bus tour, take this journey, if you can get a ticket it's 1.90 euros each and it's included with other public transport tickets too which is the reason for such a high rating. As a bus service overall, it's pretty dreadful and it's a sad state of affairs this is how people have to travel due to how dire the Metro is.
