It was a small enough class size that, during my four years, there would be times when I would have either one other person in a certain class or I would be by myself. On the fun side, we would usually have a holiday party right before Winter Break for students and families, which was always a great way for the school community to come together every year. If you're looking for a high school to send your kid(s) to that does not have big class sizes, please consider going to The University School.

I went to the University School many years ago for the 7th and 8th grades. My education there was…read more2nd to none at the time (1992-1993.) The school is VERY small, and it offers the opportunity for kids in the 7th grade to interact with kids in their senior year. I had classes that ranged from 6-8 kids per instructor to 2 kids per instructor. Generally speaking, it's an exclusive private school, as expected, but I had classmates that were very bright, but had been kicked out of public schools. They were rare, but still there, but at no time was I worried about my safety, if I lived in Pittsburgh, I would feel safe sending my kids here. It's been so many years, I can't say for sure if it is still awesome, but check it out. Oh, and Mr. Rogers used to come by often to see the Headmistress. What an amazing person he was. RIP Mr. Rogers.

To start with we LOVED the teachers and atmosphere for our toddler. But, we had to pull our child…read moreout due to negligent and lax COVID policies that have resulted in weekly exposures and illness among the children too young to be vaccinated. These policies are an outgrowth of the lax policies being exhibited at local shuls where masking and distancing are non-existent. This has exposed vulnerable children and adults to a cycle of disease and the administration have not only ignored parental concerns but have further relaxed rules. On two occasions we were told to get PCR tests but no one ever actually looked at them. The last draw was that they waited several days after an exposure to let the parents know and then put into place a testing schedule that would have exposed children to any additional COVID positive children for up to 4 days. The principal only responded to concerns when outed on public facebook discussion pages and refused to participate in any sort of forum with the parents the doctors who are allegedly consulting with him (no evidence of their consult has been shown to parents). This is not a school that takes health seriously.

They come home with a folder of the days learning and it's usually a new letter in capital and lowercase. Today's letter was M and m. My nephew Is having a hard time drawing those letters although he can trace them right. I know he's learning a lot from being there though. He always comes home with a story about how his day went and what he did. The school itself is nice and has a beautiful exterior with planted bushes and a large tree. They newly paved the entrance and sidewalks so it gives the school and updated look. Whenever you first come up to the building you are greeted by the teacher who releases your child once the teacher recognizes your face. I love the feel of security the school has that makes your child feel safe. They have security guards there and no one is allowed in the school that shouldn't be. That makes me feel safe knowing my nephew is being looked over.

Can't say enough positive things about AAK. My child has been at the center from 4 mo old on, and…read moreevery classroom has been really great. There was a bit more turnover when we started (I believe in part bc in order to gain a 3rd keystone star, the bar was raised as far as teacher training- I'm a-ok with that) but the teachers there now are the one's who have been around for years. Very accommodating, as far as parent needs/ styles (ie, pick up times, cloth diapers, breast milk) are concerned. We drive all the way from the city (for nearly 3 years!) and it's still worth it!

The teacher turnover is horrible. My son gets really close to a teacher, and the next minute they're quitting. The teacher morale is terrible, as I've had occasion to speak to them one-on-one. The center seems to be always closed for staff shortages, COVID and/or COVID quarantine. It's also closed for other random issues as well. Yet, we still have to pay the full tuition. My main issue is reliability, which I feel it is completely not.
