Love the family that runs this. Kim is amazing. I had a great time on their cattle drive I went back and did it again.

My son in law purchased my wife and I a week stay on this ranch and the price is fairly high on top of it all our stay and some problems with the owners wife treating me the was i was treated like a child we was at the dinner table and I got a phone call from my office so i told my office what they needed to do wasn't a very long call regardless i didn't know that they haad it posted about phones be at the table i fully understand the rule but it was the way it was presented to me she slaps a piece of paper down on the table like im a kid and highlight the area stating about phone bqe at the table but it was somewhat aggressive way when she could have said just said we don't have phones at the table and I do mean that ive not been treated like this since I was a i had to hold my tongue to keep from saying anything but yet on a couple of Occasions her husband use his and then the sons comes to help them and he has his phone out at the table it was abit of embarrassment to be treated like this the next thing was this was supposed to be a working ranch in the first 3 days we actually done nothing more than trail rode and moved 6 bulls so they was 2 more guys who felt the same that this was a expensive trail ride so i spoke with my wife and we packed up to come home 3 days earlier and so the other guy's came home the day after we did and i spoken with them and they were unhappy as well i could Go on and on about some more things but really what's the use this was very very disappointing for my child to spend the kind of money for a Trail ride i haven't spoken to anyone about this because I don't want to hear the excuses So i hope that others get a chance to read this before the get taken as we did i will be happy to let others know about this place in full details thanks for reading David Mason read more

I booked a Roswell vacation for a friend who is getting married soon. I wanted us to experience something that was very different from our lives so I rented a house at the Burnt Well Ranch. What we got was far more than I expected. Quite honestly I expected a house close to Roswell with a petting zoo. I did not think this place would be real. It is in fact completely real with real ranchers who sell grass fed cattle for a living. They spend their days checking up on hundreds of animals, fixing wells, hunting rattle snakes etc. The Burnt Well is not located that close to town. It is quiet out there and when you are there you will not see buildings off in the distance and at night you will see a lot of stars. The place is run by Kim and Pat Chesser and when you are staying their, you are staying in their home and really being a part of their lives. It's not cold or impersonal like a New York apartment it is the opposite in every way. They are warm nice people that are offering a true escape. Also they know all the good places to eat in the aria witch is no surprise with them being Ranchers but this is very important because most of the restaurants we ate at were horrible. The best cup of coffee I had came from their kitchen as well as the best breakfast. The best places we ate at were suggested by them. If you stay there you really must have at least one ranch package day where they take you riding and feed you. You learn what it is to be a rancher. Kim takes you out to feed the cattle, check up on their wells and guns down troublesome wildlife. Yes, it's all real. Then when that is over and your legs and rips ache because you never did that before you can relax in a hot tub or pass out like we did. The ranch has all new appliances, a pool table, a hot tub, beautiful animals and a sunset/sunrise to die for. This place is not for people who want to play it safe. The life style at the ranch has things like sand storms, rattle snakes, guns, really dry hot days. You are an hour from down and when I say an hour I mean an hour of driving through barren countryside and maybe seeing a vulture on a fence while you are leaving. This was by far the most amazing Bed and Breakfast I have ever been too. I can't even really call it a B&B because it was so different. I will be staying here every time I come to Roswell from here on in. It's just too amazing to pass up. read more

I've been on perhaps 25 week-long horseback rides on five continents. This was one of the best with great guiding, fantastic food, excellent horses, and interesting fellow guests in a beautiful landscape. A stay at the Chessers puts you in touch with what's good in life. We had intimate talks about important subjects. The home-made meals proved that if food is prepared with love, you can taste it -- steak, chile rellano, wet burritos with ground beef and green sauce, red chile enchiladas in pans, breads prepared with home-milled grain. The Chessers share ranch life, both the gritty -- chasing cows into chutes to cut off horns growing into their head --, and the magic -- an hours-old lamb; hours-old calves with red umbilical cords hanging out; bottle-feeding a calf saved by the Chessers near death after being lost by its mother in the wind. It's a beautiful, magnificent Biblical landscape, with blooming yuccas and century plants infused with the sound of meadowlarks. The horses are smooth and responsive, each one different, so if you need work adapting to varied horses, this is the place. The riding was determined by the ranch's needs, whether checking on the 19 first-time mother cows, taking care of injuries, or feeding the cattle It'll be hard to go back to rides with predictable, planned experiences the horses themselves anticipate.
