As I move around for…read moremy career, I have not been able to find a gym with a better value, or bang-for-your-buck, gym yet. They are not out to get your money and can be flexible according to your financial situation. I trained here for approximately 2 years. There are plenty of high level instructors at this gym. One major highlight is the main instructor, Dave Brogan, is also a black belt in TKD and judo. I spent approximately 80 hours learning the basics of judo here and I have been able to apply the concepts effectively against higher BJJ belt people at other gyms, including basic throws and defenses, and most importantly how to break fall and land safely. This gym is unique because it has 3 mat rooms, meaning it has a huge total amount of surface area. It also has a lot of students to fill up this space which is amazing. You can train with different groups of people every day if you wanted to, meaning people of different sizes, shapes, and athletic ability. There are multiple classes available for you take everyday of the week. This made it very flexible for me, as I attended school while training at this gym. It was my happy place for sure. This gym has a family vibe to it - most people have kids and their kids are also simultaneously training in the mat room adjacent to the main mat room. To top it off, for a small additional fee of $20, there is an option for striking training by Harrisburg Kickboxing Academy instructors, wrestling training by one of the students who is a division one college wrestler, and yoga. The gym itself is only $99 per month (a steal), if you make a yearly commitment and only $129 if you want to do month-to-month. They also have promotions when you join at certain time, you can get a free Gi, and they also have groupon deals periodically for first-timers that I used when I first started.

All age groups and belt levels are mixed together, which results in four year olds unable to follow the instructions and running wildly in between the older kids and adults. Any particular belt level will sit it out for half the class while a different level practices. Not sure how other martial arts schools structure their classes, but there has to be a better way. In some classes, there are five or six new students, so Master Pete focuses solely on these students throughout the class, even though they will most likely never be seen again. I understand that every student brings in revenue, but the established students won't stick around if these practices continue.
