What I experienced this morning was negligence defined. Three weeks ago I scheduled a 9:30 am appointment for a first initial consultation. I arrived promptly 5 minutes prior to my appointment. I was seated in the waiting room for the next 30 minutes watching new patients walk in, be seated, and helped prior still to myself. After that 30 minutes, I approach the counter to inquire the status to my appointment. They clerk looking flustered and shocked seemingly NOW remembers that I am there to been seen and have been for 30 minutes. They run to the back and take another 5 minutes. At this point I have decided to leave. Since I don't appear to be of any value or importance to their office. It is Very clear that a bias is held towards those with children, or a seemingly wealthy appearance and they will treat you differently based on this factor. Now after waiting 3 weeks for the appointment, and arriving on time on my day off bright and early. I am now back where I started and needing to find an orthodontist. If you take quality service seriously, I would consider spending your hard earned money elsewhere. Somewhere where your time is treated with respect. Extremely disappointed, and unfortunately this is the First ever experience with an orthodontist office. Off putting is an understatement. If they don't care about you during your First ever visit, rest assured, they DO not care about your business as a whole. They got comfortable, complacent and negligent knowing they are in a wealthy area. Surprise, the fundamentals of excellent service matter even more when there's hundreds of alternatives. Wake up. Working individuals, this is not the office for you. Go where they respect you. read more

I was one of Dr. Burkey's first patients when he started his practice in the mid-1980s. Although that was a long time ago, I still remember how kind Dr. Burkey was and how happy I was with my teeth after my braces were removed. When the time came for my daughter to get braces, I was thrilled to learn that Dr. Burkey is still practicing! Less than two years ago I had jaw surgery to repair on underbite and to correct the mistakes that were made by my orthodontist when I was younger. This was considered a major surgery. My surgeons knew that a civilian orthodontist (I was in the Navy for nine years) was the way to go and looked for the best choice for such a detailed process. Dr. Burkey and his staff went above and beyond professionally to make sure I would get the best results. I live more than an hour away and can honestly say it was worth the drive. After the braces were placed on my son, the year of driving him back and forth wasn't so bad knowing the high level of treatment he was going to receive from Dr. Burkey and staff. I would first like to say I am extremely pleased with my results from Dr. Burkey. Not only is he a dedicated, hardworking orthodontist, but his staff is exceptional and was always excited to see me when I came into the office for my appointments. All of his staff are extremely friendly and professional which actually made me want to keep my braces on longer just so I could continue to see everyone in the office again. I work at Condell Hospital and either I know or have met several patients, staff members, or family members of patients that go to Dr. Burkey which have all told me they had nothing but positive experiences with his care. I was 22 years old when I had my braces put on and had a very large open bite which was causing pain in my right jaw. I was told from several consultations that only way my bite and pain could be corrected was with jaw surgery. While being in nursing school, this made me very afraid since I was not able to take time off for the recovery process due to by busy school schedule and work, as well as the fact that my insurance wasn't going to cover it. When I expressed this concern to Dr. Burkey in the middle of my therapy, he went out of his way to do some research on alternatives to surgery. He called me out of the blue to inform me about a special wiring system which a colleague of his from California has used to close an open bite without having surgery which many orthodontists do not do because it is a handmade wire. Dr. Burkey was so thoughtful to go out of his way to learn this new technique (with me being the first person he has done this wiring system on) so I could avoid having jaw surgery to correct my open bite in order to alleviate the pain I was getting in my jaw. I would schedule an appointment every month with Dr. Burkey while doing this new wiring technique (called multiloop archwire therapy) and we would Facetime with his colleague from California while his orthodontist assistant would hold the phone so we can adjust my wires appropriately throughout the treatment process. In only 14 short months of braces with the help of sure smile, and the multiloop archwire therapy I was able to have my braces removed with an unbelievable perfect smile. I am so grateful that I went to such a devoted orthodontist that actually took extra time out of his practice to hand make special wires for me in order to prevent me from having jaw surgery. I have also never heard of an orthodontist that is willing to research alternatives to surgery, as well as modifying his availability to make special appointments with a patient in order to learn a new technique in orthodontistry. This not only shows his dedication and passion to his field of work, but also his willingness to learn to improve patient outcomes. I am now free of any jaw pain, and my bite closes perfectly without any openings because of this multiloop archwire therapy, and Dr. Burkeys meticulous orthodontic work. I would also like to add that his office is absolutely beautiful and was always very clean and organized. I also enjoyed that there was a station with two sinks to brush your teeth and floss if you would like before you were called back for your appointment since sometimes I was in a hurry with my busy schedule that I would forget to brush my teeth before coming in for my appointments. I highly recommend Dr. Burkey for orthodontic work for anyone at any age, and do not have any regrets about choosing him as my orthodontist. read more

We have had two children under Dr. Burkey's impeccable care. Our reasons for recommending Dr. Burkey are many. The facility is well cared for and well designed. The staff is uniformly warm and welcoming. Our son's treatment had excellent results, and our daughter is progressing very well. Though they don't look forward to them (understandably), neither of our kids has any reservations about keeping appointments. In fact, they hurry us along to make sure that they get their wooden nickles for being on time (a brilliant piece of motivational psychology). We really appreciated that Dr. Burkey was the only one of the four Orthodontists that we evaluated who recommended different treatments for each of our children; the others all seemed to have a one-size-fits-all "everyone needs braces" approach that didn't sit well with us. Once we signed up, the Financial Coordinator worked with us to make a payment in a different calendar year so that we could maximize our insurance benefits. When friends visiting from out of town had a broken wire, the Appointment Coordinators scheduled an appointment the same day and Dr. Burkey treated them with the same care and consideration that he gives to his long-time patients. Our friends came away saying that they wished they could continue with Dr. Burkey (if only they didn't live in Colorado). We are grateful to our friends who recommended Dr. Burkey to us and we pay it forward by recommending his practice to others every chance we get. read more
