This review is long overdue. We spent two nights in Eidfjord in September at a lovely AirBnB. Our…read morehost recommended this restaurant (only one of a handful in the town) so we checked it out on our first night, but it was closed. The note said they would be open the next day, so we called and made a reservation. When we got there on Saturday night, we were the only ones there at first. The restaurant used to be a house, and now the first floor is the restaurant/bar area, with a few boarding rooms upstairs. The week we were there was the last week they would be open until the spring, since it was the end of the tourist season. The server/owner was very welcoming and friendly. She told us she and her father own the place, and they renovated it a few years ago. The inside is beautiful, and really cozy and comfortable. There are a few dining tables in the back room, along with a lounge area next to the bar up front. There was no written menu--the owner just told us the two options they had for the night (a salmon dish and reindeer) as well as a soup and dessert. They also had two local wines and some local beer. The meal was delicious, and so peaceful. We sat next to the window, which overlooks the fjord. We could see the sun setting while we were eating. After we finished our meal, we were going to just go back to the AirBnB, but the server convinced us to stick around at the bar. There were two or three other people there, who were clearly locals who come in a lot. We had a few drinks at the bar before we called it a night. Overall this was a lovely experience, and I highly recommend it if you find yourself in this sleepy cruise town.

The person who served us the best Gin&Tonic I've ever drunk told us a lot about Eidfjord and Norway in general. After a while they even surprised us with free popcorn. Very sweet!

A wonderful hotel in a most beautiful surroundings…read more As soon as you arrive and have a chance to walk thru the patio and garden on the back to the water, you are stunned by the views of Hardangerfjord. Peaceful water and mountains. I cannot believe how still the water is. Slopes with houses dotted here and there, and birch trees... Standing in awe... Rooms at Brakanes are charming, it is quiet here. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Small gift shop on a first floor offers all your regular souvenirs. Some cute clothing, too! Their restaurant is nothing but outstanding. Every course is a masterpiece. I can honestly say, venison here is the best you would find anywhere, it just melt-in-your-mouth perfection. What's around: There are many hike trails and runs in Ulvik, the ones you will remember forever. Run around the fjord in early morning hours is particularly peaceful. If you visiting in Spring, there are cherry trees in bloom! Small cafes along the water are delightful for quick bite of to sit and relax.

Charming hotel facing Hardanger fjord in the quaint town of Ulvik…read more Service: Staff is friendly & helpful. Pointed out local activities and provided extra room key on request. Room reservation comes with 'be active' vouchers for activities in Ulvik; however, not provided automatically on check-in. Received immediately on request. Food: Enjoyed buffet dinner and breakfast at restaurant. Wide selection and buffet items refilled often, clean plates/glasses. Most items were tasty. Water pitchers refilled often, used cutlery swapped, and used plates bussed quickly. No complaints. Rooms: Cosy and clean. Majestic views of Hardanger fjord from private balcony. Bathroom had good water temperature/pressure. Wake-up call provided as promised. Bottom Line: Picturesque views alone warrant 5 stars. Combined with the availability of vouchers, cosy rooms, and good food this place is a solid 5.

Their bread service consisted of homemade bread and butter which was fantastic. I ordered the wagyu entrecôte with broccolini, potatoes, and tomato salad. The wagyu had a béarnaise sauce too. One of the best cuts of meat I've had. The potatoes and veggies paired so well! The salmon was delicious as were the veggies it came with. Our dessert was a warm brownie with seasonal berries and ice cream that was to die for!

Restaurant Arven has it all. Delicious food. Amazing staff. Beautiful views. Wonderful atmosphere. My rundown: -Kristine (our waitress) was absolutely wonderful. She was patient, kind and accommodating. -The champagne and wine selection was top notch. -The bread was fresh, soft and flavorful. -The vegetarian plate and salad that was prepared for me by the chef was beyond delicious. The vegetables and greens were extremely fresh. -I was told that the cod was cooked to perfection and tasted like it had been caught within hours of being cooked. -The leak and potato soup was light yet flavorful. -The desserts were wonderful. If I had to choose between the white chocolate soup and the creme brûlée, I would pick the white chocolate soup. Overall, I loved this restaurant. If you are in Flam and want to enjoy a nice dinner, stop by at this restaurant. You won't be disappointed.

The restaurant is styled like an American saloon with cowboy hats and western decor around the dining area and American country music playing in the background. They also have outdoor seating. We tried their tapas plate. I have to admit that my expectations were low, but I was pleasantly surprised. The aioli was quite tasty and sweet and sour and ranch sauces were fine. The onion rings, chicken wings, and fried shrimp were on par with the best I have had, and the other fried foods were decent as well. The grapes were particularly good, and the red ones had a flavor that I had never encountered before. Overall, I had a great experience at Vossevangen Grill & Steakhouse and would recommend their tapas plate.

I had the chicken fillet (minus the sauce) which came with corn, broccoli and potato. It was tasty and filing. Another had the steak with same sides that came with the chicken. The steak was decent but not a wow. Two in our party had the Cowboy Burger with fries - which they enjoyed. Service was fairly good. They have a very strange check system where you go up to the cash register and tell them what you ordered (extra strange because it was our server at the cash register!!).

Also ordered the baked salmon ("Laks" in norwegian) and finger potatoes which was a nice sized portion, had perfect seasoning and again cooked the correct amount. I would try one of their pizzas next time. A fresh pour of the pilsner on tap was the perfect temperature. They also had a nice locally made and bottled apple cider. Very friendly folks too! Asked about some advice in returning my rental car in Voss followed by a quick run to the train station and the owner called up his friend who works at Hertz in Voss who was willing to allow me to just drop my car next to the train station. I felt better to drop it at the Hertz location at 8am and he offered to run me over to catch my train at 9. Folks in Norway are amazingly kind! Tasty and Friendly, I'd be back here and recommend you give them a shot! Note their hours are pretty limited during the week. I think they closed at 6pm. but weekend hours were longer.
