Located on the 3rd floor of the Centro Comercial a Laxe shopping center, this instance of the world-wide burger chain, Burger King, provided a familiar taste in a foreign country for similar prices.
I like to go to American fast food chains while visiting foreign countries, completely acknowledging that I would have poo-pooed such behavior in my youth as being old and anti-thesis to the tenet of adventure and exploring. But as I've learned the hard way, the number one priority for me now is NOT to get any sort of upset stomach while exploring. So eating at a familiar place does alleviate that...plus I've learned that the major chains customize their menu to include certain food items geared toward locals, so that provides a little fun recognizing that.
Burger King has an interesting connection for me and my dad, so I try to go whenever I see a new one, to get a Whopper sandwich. We first saw it when we visited the mall at 9 am, and came back soon after it opened at noon. By this time, there were already a line for the two kiosks. I definitely wanted to use it (since I knew it had an English option) so waited. A lot of the Filipino workers from our cruise boat were there visiting and eating...thinking this is a popular stop. I was able to place the order, but couldn't really use my phone since I couldn't get dependable Wi-fi.
In about 10 minutes, my number was called (and displayed on the monitor as being ready, providing double confirmation). I picked it up and my wife and I ate inside the dining room (fairly big, able to seat more people than a typical States BK). The Whopper (6,30€ including tax) tasted very familiar, with the very big difference being the 2 ripe, delicious tomato slices that I really loved. Chicken wings (bone-in) were provided in different sizes and I got the 3 piece (3,60€) to try it. It was edible, seasoned and OK for the price paid. Note sauces are extra and so is ketchup packets (after the 2nd one). read more
