Lovely place. A short hike to the beach with a terrific view. Has cute bridges and stairs. The stairs are a bit steep on the way back so you'll get a little workout too. It's great for kids and very dog friendly.

Great place to get a small hike in and see the water. We went for the "meet at the beach" on Sunday and it was great. I have kids ranging from ages 4-15 and it's a good walk for them to do. I forgot to bring my water/slip on's so, I was stuck wearing flip flops. BIG mistake. I don't recommend that. LoL We were able to see many sand dollars, a sea slug, Ghost shrimp. A seal taking a peep at us as we peeped back at it. Many crabs and a great view. Having the Beach naturalists there made for a extra fun treat! It was a nice little family day out. I'm not sure if there are other trails down that may be easier, but the one we took had steep stairs. So not recommended for strollers or anyone who has issues with walking areas that are not paved and smooth.

This park is fantastic. It even has Disabled beach access that allows folks to park their cars near the beach. All you have to do is drive past the main park and hit a side road. If you can use the stairs, you will definitely feel the burn. There are lots and lots of stairs on the Beach Access trail. My favorite part of the park is the beach. There are rarely any shellfish/water quality alerts out in this area. Folks can harvest gaper clams, horse clams, and geoduck with a permit. Shellfish harvesting permits can be purchased on the way to the park at Gull Harbor Mercantile and near by at Boston Harbor Marina. Burfoot County Park doesn't have a muddy beach. It's rocky and has sand flats at low tide. I had lived in this area for years and had no idea that there was a Beach Naturalist program held at the park. They give prizes for returning scavenger hunt forms. Both of my children ended up with quite a few prizes. You get to see LOTS of animals at low tide and I'm sure that's why the beach naturalist folks picked this park. I've rented a shelter here. It's easy and a great way to get folks to come together. I had a nice barbecue at a rented shelter back in 2008. There is plenty of parking near many of the shelters and there is plenty of room for kids to play. I rented the small shelter near the Beach Access trail. Shelter rental is inexpensive. However, during slow parts of the year it's mostly first come, first serve as long as there isn't a notice at the shelter stating it is rented for that day. The playground is a decent size. It's good for toddlers and bigger kids. There are two huge slides and some climbing activities. Swings are available and are located a bit further away. Everything is surrounded in wood chips. If you have special needs kids who have limited mobility, this isn't the best play structure. I've seen transfer style chairs get stuck in the wood chips. This is a good playground if your children don't need to be accommodated. Overall, this is a good park. It's great for barbecues and picnics. I come here often and my kids love it.

Great park and playground in a secluded setting. The playground has both regular swings and infant swings. There are picnic tables scattered throughout the park as well as a covered picnic shelter. The trail to the beach is a fun one for kids to explore with you. It is not stroller friendly, as there are a series of stairs you must navigate on the trail. It took us about 10 minutes to get down to the beach from the playground. Just remember that it's an uphill walk on the way back. The trail was a little muddy by the stairs and it had not been raining recently so it may get even muddier after a few rainy days. Also, watch out for Poison Oak along the trail. There are signs warning you down by the beach but not on the rest of the trail.

Nice trail very short though. Not very scenic either all the trails look the same. If your looking for somewhere to go just for a short walk then this place is fine. I finished all four trails in less than an hour. Water view was nice though at the end.

I love this park! There's always people but it's never super crowded. There's plenty of parking and a playground for the little ones, and also some covered picnic areas and picnic tables. The trail to the water is an easy 10-ish minute walk, with some stairs so it isn't ideal for strollers. The waterfront is beautiful! There are logs to sit on and I enjoy just sitting there and watching the water. You can walk along the water, also. One of my favorite little gems in the area.

Beach area. You can see the capitol in a distance!

Park is awesome. Great place to bring the family. There is a very easy hike to get to the beach area. Once you get to the beach area after the hike, the view is awesome and a place to just relax and take in the sites. Definitely recommend this place

It's easy to get lost at this park. There is a really nice pavillion area and restroom facilities. There are multiple accesses to trails surrounding the pavillion. There is also a huge open area near the parking lot which is great for picnics or soccer or whatever. There is also a small rhododendren area. The most exciting thing, I think, it that after you take the trail that is labelled "Beach", you come out to a beach that is perfect for swimming or just relaxing. You can walk down the beach and watch the boats whizzing by or the sunlight dancing off the ripples of the water. Good for dogs too. They have doggy bag stations before you head out on the trails. I will say the trails, especially the one leading to the beach is not wheelchair friendly or friendly for those that have disabilities. There are so many side trails as well so as I mentioned it's easy to get lost. I had to help an older couple find the parking lot. What was also odd is that is was sooooooo quiet. There were NO birds chirping or any wildlife slithering or trees cracking. Really weird. But hey! This park is free. You don't have to have the discovery pass or pay to park or use the beach (getting kind of rare in Washington). So have fun!

Sand dollars all over the place!

This park is awesome! I live in the Fredrickson/Puyallup area and it was so worth the drive. Simple park with picnic areas and a nice play ground for the kiddos. A few trails going into beautiful wood areas. And the best part a trail down to the beach! If you love seeing sea life then this is right for you. First time being there saw lots of star fish, tons of great shells, and the water was nice enough to walk in! I highly recommend this park for a whole day adventure.

I love this park and give it four stars because it is a great park with disgusting bathrooms. The beach is beautiful and rarely crowded. The trails are beautiful and the playground is great for kids. There are grill stations with picnic tables in both shade and sunny stations. Overall this is my favorite park. However, the restrooms are despicably ill maintained. I've used them three times and every time I gag. When I was pregnant it actually made me vomit. If you can avoid using them, do so. This last time I decided something needed said. Outside the bathroom about twenty feet from the door I picked up a lovely pinecone only to discover my hand covered in feces. No dog feces was nearby and when I rushed to the restroom to scrub my hands in the freezing water I realized the pinecone had either been kicked out of the bathroom or blown out because there were more pinecones on the floor siting in what was apparently now on my hand. Fortunately there was soap in the dispenser this time, and my hands were raw from scrubbing in the cold water. The sink has those faucets that require holding it on with one hand so you never really get your hands clean. The door is always open and water and other liquid pools inside the door on the cement floor. In the winter it was a Frozen patch of ice and I slipped. This park is beautiful, why must the restrooms be so disgusting!?

A very nice scene park during summer's late afternoon. The wooden trail was a little bit wet and sloppy.

Great little park! We went to this park with our three dogs and we all had a blast on the beach. I would suggest not parking in the first parking lot when you go into the park but follow the road around. The back parking lot is where the beach trail is located. The trail down to the beach is beautiful and there is just one staircase. There were a few other dogs and people at the beach playing in the water so everyone had a great time. The parking is also free which is a huge plus.

    Is there fishing allowed there?

Shallow water all the way out. No place to launch a boat or throw a line. So no.

I can confidently say that after being there yesterday that my boys and I will be back! I decided on taking the kids there because I was looking for a new playground space. We had usually gone to other parks/playgrounds and we were all getting a wee bit tired of the same old, same old. I showed the pictures of the playground to the kids and they thought it looked fun too. We went there and were pleasantly surprised at what all else they had to do. The playground itself has a big toy that's shaped like a large ship, which they had fun playing on. However, it was the walking trails and beach access that they enjoyed the most. The trails are partly paved and partly unpaved (so do remember to wear your boots). They lead you through the woods, along and close to various benches and covered pavilions, and down the hills to the beach. The trail hills are not that steep, so it's doable and not extremely strenuous (my 6 year old made it around easily - and the 3 year old mostly was good ... just got tired near the end, after a couple of hours of walking and playing). The best part of the walk was getting down to the beach! It's a beautiful view and very easy to walk around. Hard-packed sand, shells, and flat made for a nice walk. Because of all the recent rain, it was a wee bit sloppy; but fun. My kids had a wonderful time walking/running around and watching the water, looking for shells, and just being kids! We felt very safe there and I never felt like I needed to be "on guard" like at some parks. Overall, the park is large enough to spend a couple of hours there, and yet small enough to not get lost of feel overwhelmed with the number and length of the trails. I asked the kids if they had fun and would want to come back again. They both immediately said yes to both questions. There you have it. We'll be back!!

We walked down to the beach and my niece had a fun time scooping up sea life from the sand and she found things like baby crab legs and shellfish so we got to talk about what was in the water. People were kinda standing around or taking pictures since Mt. Rainier is in the distance, since there's nowhere to sit to relax. There are lots of signs telling you to respect private property, so I imagine the residents get frustrated when people wander over the line, but that's what you get if your property is right next to a state park. The path over was nice, with netting on slippery spots and there are a couple of Pokemon Gyms and Pokestops so its a pretty good place to play. Just be mindful that they require you to carry your trash out of the park with you, so there's nowhere to leave your dog poop bags if your pup does his business. I arrived in the 9:00 a.m. hour and parked at the upper parking lot by the entrance to the park. There is a second parking lot further down the road once inside the park that is closer to the beach. By the upper parking lot there is a restroom building, covered picnic area, and abundant picnic tables with grills interspersed in the woods. There is also an area with benches facing the water in an amphitheater-esque seating style. In my exploring this area I found some cool plants including foxglove plants with cusped blossoms. A Goldfinch flitted across my path and made a getaway before I could get a picture of it. Fun to see the state bird in a state park! Making my way down the trail to the beach was quiet, and I was pleased to see that it was high tide when I arrived at the waterfront. Walking along the waterfront I notice what looked like a Kingfisher so I decided to approach and see if it was. Indeed it was! Slowly I waded out in the water along a muddy part and realized the mud was teeming with crabs. I was careful to watch where I stepped so as not to smoosh any of them. Once I reached the Kingfisher (a Belted Kingfisher specifically) it flew off across the spit of land I came across to get to it. I watched where it landed on a tree branch and then followed the Belted Kingfisher. The Belted Kingfisher was along the creek that flows to the Puget Sound at high tide, at low tide the creek dissipates. Another Belted Kingfisher arrived and they both started diving in the water for fish and other food. Turning my head left I noticed a Heron in the water and waded back out in the water to join it. After wading around with the Heron for a while I made my way back towards where the first Belted Kingfisher had perched to watch for food in the water. The tide was going out as I was wading with the Heron and making my way to the perch. The crabs were not happy about this. The ground glistened with movement, not sunlight, and there were 100s to 1000s of tiny crabs running to take shelter under the seaweed, in the mud, and yes trying to pinch my feet and legs. As I neared some crabs they would burrow backwards into the mud, put their pinchers up, and open them... I was careful not to step there. Eventually I made it back to the Belted Kingfisher perch and what did I find?! Not one, but two Belted Kingfishers watching the water!! So very cool. After admiring them for a little bit I started making my way back to my car. The beach and the parking lot by the beach were starting to get busy, so it was my time to go. A perfect morning adventure in the Puget Sound area.
