The two employees were incredibly kind--offering samples, explaining the flavors (some were in Spanish), and making the whole experience feel easy and welcoming. Their English was great, which I appreciated. I went with coconut--perfect for the tropical weather--and caramel vanilla for a little indulgence. I have exceptionally high gelato expectations, and while Buonissimo checked my craving, I didn't think it was anything other than just OK. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Pretty standard gelato shop here at Buonissimo and with probably the best location you could imagine in PVR proper. I placed my order and was out the door in a minute or two, and they take card which was a nice little bonus. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? 52,00 MXP got me a very generous portion of cinnamon whether it was in cup or cone, and that was a very good price point. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? This was good gelato, but it wasn't in my mind great gelato. The consistency was on the heavy side and it melted exceptionally quickly, but that didn't come paired with the highly dense flavor that you sometimes get with heavier gelato. Authentic Italian espresso in Mexico? Better believe it! I am a coffee snob in the greatest sense of the word, and I'm always looking for a quick caffeine fix. I loved the look of this little shop so I stopped in for an espresso and was blown away. In what took me back to the streets of Rome (okay, okay, not quite that great but still a pleasant surprise), the espresso was strong and not bitter. I loved it so much I immediately ordered a second one. I also tried the gelato and it was good but not something I'd come back for. Get the coffee. It's high quality and reasonably priced. The proprietor spoke Italian so my husband had fun conversing with him (Italian and Spanish are so similar that we both found ourselves going in and out of both languages), so you know it's a legit espresso joint when the man who owns it is from Italy! Note that there may be a language barrier with the employees; they are very friendly but some speak very limited English. There are several indoor seats and some coveted outdoor chairs along the prime real estate that is the Puerto Vallarta Malecon. Grab a seat and soak in the sun and ocean breezes while you watch the people wander by. The location is fantastic and proves the idea setting for enjoying a quick break in one of the most beautiful (and my personal favorite) cities in all of Mexico. read more

absolutely enjoyable ice cream! lot's of flavors, all creamy, soft and fluffy. I liked the fact that you really taste what you are actually having, each flavor has an absolutely distinctive and unique taste, and you don't taste just the sugar (like often here in US). I wish we had something like that closer! Prices are a bit higher than expected, but you have to consider the quality and the location (on the main street, super close to the boardwalk). Definitely a place to enjoy a great ice cream while in PV. read more

CUTE! Walking the Malecon on a hot day is a great excuse for ice cream! They have a couple of steps to get up to the shop. This little shop is right off the boardwalk. Prices are in pesos but they will do the exchange if you want to pay in USD. I got a cup of the vanilla bean and hubby opted for the mint. The scoop for 39 pesos was more like 3 scoops. It's a great deal for a quality product. You can chose between a cone or a cup. read more

This place used to be located directly on the Malecon but has now moved just around the corner on Paseo Diaz Ordaz. I usually stop in here once or twice every time I'm in Puerto Vallarta for their affogato. There are a lot of choices for getato and ice cream in PV, but this place has always been pretty solid. The gelato here is some of the best we've found in PV. It melts super fast so make sure you're ready to eat it if you're traveling when it's hot. The service here can be kinda off at times but overall we love coming back and enjoying some gelato on the malecon. read more

So this place was definitely a life saver, as it was hot as hades that day we were walking the malecon, and some Ice cream really hit the spot. The place was great, nice and clean. The gelato itself was also good. The reason I am giving this spot 2 stars is because the 2 girls running the shop that day looked like they did not want to be there. I get it, sometimes I feel like that at work too, but If you're job consists of interacting with customers, perhaps you should try a little harder in smiling. It might help yourself feel better as well. The biggest thing that I saw, that really bummed me out and disappointed me, was that one of the girls was not giving the correct amount to some of the customers who were foreign. Keep in mind that the day that we were there, there was a cruise ship that had docked, so there was a little more than the usual foreign people walking around. As we sat there eating our ice cream, I saw the cashier tell the customer that her total was $3, when in fact it was $2 and some change, it was like $2.15 or somewhere around that. I don't know if he was rounding it off, or why she did what she did. She still entered the right amount into the register, because then, I saw her take the change and set it on the counter, as if she was giving it back to the lady, but the lady was already gone. Eventually, she took the change and set it to the side, as if it was forgotten change. I don't know how many times she must do this a day, but it seemed like she knew what she was doing and just didn't want to do the exchange rate properly. This is very deceptive and makes me sad, as I myself am Mexican and know the proper exchange rate, and she wouldn't be able to fool me. It's sad though to see that she's doing it to people who are vulnerable and perhaps trust that the cashier is being honest with them. I don't think it's a business thing, I think it was just the cashier, but it sucks to see that people do these types of things to others. read more

The pineapple basil was super! Passion fruit and banana also good. Strawberry was ok - I'd recommend sticking with the tropical. We did see a lot of chocolate being served, so if you like that, then go for it. We hit it twice and it is right near the north end of the malecon. Very clean and pleasant. Service was good. The place said gelato. But the "gelato" was more like ice cream. It wasn't as soft as I imagined it to be. But the flavors were quite yummy. I was scared of getting a stomach ache after eating so much foreign dairy, but I felt completely fine afterwards. Flavors worth mentioning: the butterscotch and the walnut! Every bite was decadent. I was sweetly surprised that I enjoyed the walnut flavor as much as I did. I'm usually a fan of pistachio but this one just fell flat to me. There was just something about it that didn't make me want to go back for a second bite. Although I gave it several attempts, I ended up tossing it out. 2/3 flavors isn't too bad though. I'd give this spot a thumbs up, especially in that humidity.. a little cool sweetness helps make the day more bearable. read more
