There are so many phenomenal things to see on this tour!
We got to see a rain forest, on the Great Ocean Road, numerous beautiful beaches on the South Ocean and its bays, and, of course, the twelve apostles. There aren't twelve apostles (stone structures on the ocean that someone dreamed looked like apostles), but the cliffs and rock formations are magnificent. The views along the ocean, too, are very high up on cliffs. It has a little bit of a west coast feel, without the trees and mountains being quite as massive.
We were also brought to several nice towns and bakeries on Australia's southern end, where we got to enjoy several fine dining establishments and a beautiful, five-star hotel in Beacon. I recommend getting your own room rather than sharing accommodations - because as much as they try to accommodate you in a "communal" setting, the rooms remain pretty but the accommodations are overused. But their rooms are very large, and beautiful - in a beach-type of setting.
There were so many other things I got to do on my Great Ocean Road and Penguin Island two-day tour. We got to go to an animal sanctuary (I forgot where, but it was amazing), and got to see dingos, kangaroos, wallabees, koalas, and numerous exotic birds (as well as other animals). You can get photos taken with the koalas, and the kangaroos and wallabees walk right up to you to get food from you if you buy some. It is a phenomenal sanctuary, and I highly appreciate the people that created it for the care of the animals.
The tour ends at Phillip Island for the "Penguin Parade." I don't want to give away what happens at this event - but I will say it is one of the most magnificent experiences I have ever had the opportunity to participate in! Also, I will note that you might see some rare things occur - like a wallabee running up to a bunch of penguins, and seeing them scatter, as it begins. Prior to the event, you once again get to enjoy some magnificent views from Phillip Island - one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. I will warn that you are not allowed to take pictures of the penguins on the island, at the risk of having your camera confiscated. The reason is that flashes blind the penguins, actually make it difficult for them to nurse their young - forever - and some idiots have spoiled it for everyone. I suggest, however, from a humanitarian perspective, that you abide by their rules. It's only right!
I also want you to be aware of our wonderful tour guide - Rebecca, who was so knowledgeable about the places we saw and the embodiment of charm. I think you will be very pleased if you get her on your tour. read more
