I didn't know anything about the boilermaker when i arrived, but stepping through the door i…read moreinstantly knew what to expect. I liked the drama of the entrance to the bar (which i wont go into detail about so not to run), but more importantly i liked the bar itself. The first thing i noticed was that you couldnt just go through you had to wait in the entrance area until there was enough room to be seated. You could consider this pretentious, but i saw this as ensuring the right atmosphere. It ensured the bar wasnt too loud with over powering chatter, but instead a pleasant and table serviced experience. When entering the bar itself i was immediately delighted to find we were now within a covered court yard area that had always been behind the facade of the building. A small surprise ...something i hadn't expected or known existed. we were seated in the garden area (inside, but the decor was garden like) with twinkling lights and plenty of greenary, but further in the bar felt more warehousey with old stable stalls at one end. the menu choice of cocktails was bizarre and i didnt really fancy any of them....but my friends did and they were really good. I think i just couldnt see through the narative clearly enough.....my error not there's. a great bar, with a bit of quirk, creating a lovely warm welcoming atmosphere and serving fantastic cocktails. You should go!

Brilliant bar tucked away in the Hockley area of Nottingham. No frontage to the road, instead you…read morewalk into what looks like a boiler shop and then through the door marked "Staff only" through to the bar (if the door won't open, press the buzzer on the counter). Table service only, no standing at the bar (or anywhere for that matter) with a great range of cocktails and beers. Chilled atmosphere with no loud, lager louts. Expect to pay £7.50 for a cocktail so not cheap but for a nice relaxed treat, definitely worth it.

This rooftop bar and restaurant has an amazing terrace with amazing views of the city while being away from the hustle and bustle of street level. I have been there both for drinks (the cocktails are delicious!), birthday meals and even a romantic meal for two as Saltwater caters for all occasions. The food is good British, local produce by night and summer-ry barbecues by day. Although it is set within Nottingham's cornerhouse complex, the vibe changes as soon as you enter the bar with chilled DJs and contented chatter - Saltwater's a great place to celebrate, catch up and relax.

We like it - oh yes, we like it a lot. You sit overlooking the roofs, spires and chimneys of…read moreNottingham - that's the first thing. It really gives you a completely different view of the city - and one that is quite beautiful. In fact, there's a balcony - open in the summertime for drinking your cocktails and champagne - smashing! The food is very nice. Traditional western cuisine cooked well, and specialising - unsurprisingly - in fish. They have a good selection of tempting fish dishes to try, in both starters and mains. The desserts have always been a hit with my wife. However, although the coffee is good, they've gone a bit too European with the size of coffee cup - I like my tongue to be wet from the coffee - one shot does not suffice!!! You can eat here on a budget if you order carefully, or if you take advantage of their lunch time two/three course menu. Later in the evening it turns a bit more bar-esque, and is a nice place to drop in for a drop of something warming after the cinema, before bed!
