An iconic stop on my Aussie road trip. I just had to stop by and see how "Bundy" rum is made and where on earth the illusive Bundy Bear hides away. The staff at the distillery were extremely helpful, friendly, and were passionate about rum. There was lots of Bundaberg memorabilia for the history buffs, and a bit of trivia about rum for the enthusiast too. It was very easy to devote a good couple of hours having a browse, but make sure you leave time for the factory tour. You may even get to cast your eyes upon an illusive drop bear or two. Don't leave your wallet in the car, as the store in the reception area boasts all the products that the distillery produces, plus even some items that don't make the shelves of the bottle shop. I recommend the chocolate and coffee Royal Liqueur. It is delicious with ice cream. The Bundaberg Rum Distillery is a must see if passing through, even if only to stock up on delicious liqueur and to have your photo taken with the massive bottle of Bundaberg Rum. A great bit of Aussie humour to break up your journey. read more

My friend and I took the experience tour. It goes over the basics of making rum and then you get to choose a couple of rums to sample. Before the tour, they send you through the displays. The first is an okay museum display on the history of the distillery. This was a little boring (I have no interest in Bundaberg as a company). The next display was on the rum making process which was pretty cool. Not worth the time or money, but it was just the first part. The guide took us through the various parts of the distillery. Our guide was knowledgeable and answered our questions. We learned a lot about liquor taxes in Australia (its about AUD$28 for an AUD$35 bottle). This part was short and sweet. The final part was a sampling of rums. There were about 10 different liquors, and our guide explained them all to us. My friend and I shared our samples so we got to try four different rums. Getting to taste the differences in processes we had just learned about was great. Having four types of rums to compare was nice as well. All in all, if you like rum, this is a great tour. read more

My friends and I drove up here from Brisbane specifically because I'm so in love with this delicious beverage (that isn't available in the US - come on guys!) The distillery offers a couple tour options, one is self-guided through their museum while another takes you through the plant, inside one of their gigantic wooden casks, learning how they make the rum, where the inspiration for their product came from, and why it's considered a high-explosives site. Be aware that they will not let you bring any kind of electronic device with you into the distillery buildings as this place has burned to the ground twice in its history; they do have secure storage lockers where you can leave everything. This is probably the only part of the tour that sucks because you can't take photos. Regardless, during the tour they let you taste the raw molasses and at the end everyone gets two drinks from the bar. Audience participation counts during the tour, so be ready to shout a bit :-) read more

Great place to visit. Take a look at some of the bottles produced over the years and read up on the history of bundaberg rum at the walk around section in the lobby. Worth taking a tour to find out how bundy is made and then have a free sample and browse some of the merchandise for sale read more
