'Service with a sneer' The attitude of the staff in the Bull is so appalling, I don't quite know where to start.. I used to go in the Bull years ago but unfortunately, the change in management has spoilt a beautiful pub. I stopped eating here after encountering 2 of the rudest and most hostile staff I've ever had the misfortune to meet (and I think they were in charge!..). I ordered a steak & caramelised onion sandwich which was grisle not steak and raw onionas no one asked us if the food was ok, I had to walk to the bar to ask for an alternative, which was met with a scowl and silence! I will now only go in the Bull for a drink with friends and the staff's attitude to customers has now become a standing joke- on every occasion we have been there for a drink and a chat, we have sat in disbelief at the way they speak customers, loudly talk about customers and agrue amongst themselves infront of customers. Today, the girl who is usually barking at customers, said very agressively to a man across the bar, 'have you just sat yourselves down at a table? you can't do that!' because he had dared to find himself a table when there were no staff around to seat him and then loudly discussed the 'outrage' with another member of staff! Sadly, they seem completely unaware that their attitude to customer service is up there with Basil Fawlty and their behaviour is completely unprofessional. There are only 2 reasons why this pub still as any customers, 1. the pub is beautiful with fantastic views 2. the carvery is popular. I wish we had read the last person's comment before taking my 90 year old mother for Sunday lunch today. We sat at a table and I went to the bar to order carvery meals and some drinks. The female serving behind the bar was glaring at my mother, saying 'They have just sat down!' to her colleague. I apologised and asked if I had to book as I hadn't seen any notices anywhere. 'Yes you most certainly do' was the tart reply. Another member of staff came over and was really nice saying it was no problem and she would get a table ready for us in the other half of the eating area (right next to where we had sat down). I went over straight away to tell my mum that we had to move and as we were gathering her walking stick and coats, the original female member of staff brought people over and told us loudly and rudely that this table was booked and we had to move. I retorted sharply that we we were doing just that although it was patently obvious. (The group who had booked were charming and told us not to worry etc etc so maybe they picked up on the genral angst.) The rest of the staff we had 2 waitresses and carvery gentleman were good natured and efficent. I was charged for a dollop of ice cream on my crumble and custard which I thought was petty and one of the loos didn't flush. A chap next to us got up and left after half an hour as his childrens' lunch had not been served. I hope he didn't pay for his drinks. I would most certainly NOT recommend this place the good views did not make up for the crap service. What a pity! The views are spectacular but both service and food leave a lot to be desired. We went for lunch and ordered a sandwich and salad which took 25 minutes to arrive. Unfortnately, the aubergine wasn't cooked and when mentioned to the staff, we were told that it must be cooked as we'd eaten it- despite the fact that I had picked it out of the sandwich and put it on the side of the plate as it was inedible. We will not go to this pub again. It wasn't so much the poor food (£9 for a basic, small ham salad), nor the 25 minute wait for a salad and a sandwich, it was the way staff reacted when we told them about raw aubergine.
