Be careful with this one if you are an educated gardener and proud of your planting beds. Watch them like a hawk if you employ their maintenance crew. While this company is generally good at very basic maintenance (why I've given them one star) - they're iffy on plants and customer service, in my experience. First, they butchered two of my mock orange shrubs without consulting me. They told me later that the shrubs were pruned of spent material - regardless, they should have talked with me first. This was at a point in the season that was too early for that type of hatchet job. Then, the crew ripped out about a dozen lush, mature milkweed from a pollinator area of one of my garden beds - without consulting me. After I brought these mistakes to their attention - they came back the next week and removed two other emerging milkweed plants. Again, I was not consulted prior. The milkweed's flower clusters had been drawing monarchs in numbers, so while the plants "may" come back next year (provided the rhizomes weren't damaged) this season is lost for monarchs. While the lead maintenance rep promised me the plants would be replaced - the owner is dragging feet in doing so at least two weeks later. I did get "sorry," but no other attempt, to date, to make this right. My work with this company has spanned a couple years now - but the crew I had (and liked a lot) was replaced with the departure of one of its key members. I'm boggled how a landscape company would make the decision to remove necessary pollinator plants from the garden of someone who clearly is a gardener - how they could not know that the milkweed were intentionally placed? Part of the owner's defense is that the company specializes in ornamental landscaping - but ornamental landscaping and sustainable landscaping are no longer mutually exclusive. If ornamental alone is what you want - no judgement, but incorporating sustainable gardening (gardening for the environment) with ornamental horticulture (gardening for asthetics) is a popular choice that is increasingly recognized by homeowners, communities and municipalities. So bottom line is: if you're looking for help to maintain gardens that both look pretty and that include beneficial pollinator plants - those that provide habitat and food to our winged friends, from monarchs to birds - look elsewhere. read more
