When the Lonely Planet describes most restaurants in Sultanahmet as tourist traps, not interested in return business it really isn't kidding, but luckily Buhara, which apparently is a bit of an Istanbul institution - bucks the trend.
The meal started with a lovely sesame covered flat bread, and was then followed up with several dishes of Turkish style meze, all of which was really fresh and well prepared. We washed it down with a few pints of the local Effes and finished off with a couple of Turkish coffees, all for the princely sum of around £25 (for two). Service was overly attentive, in that typical Turkish style, although not obnoxious.
Although we didn't make it back to Buhara, we did try several other restaurants in the area (against the advice of Lonely Planet), and none of them came close. read more
