However, on the day of pickup, we waited in line for an extremely long time, only to be told that the car we reserved wasn't available. I had an extremely disappointing rental experience with budget Rent a Car on December 21, 2025, unfortunately, this experience was poor from beginning to end and fell far below acceptable customer service standards. Upon arrival, the front desk representative was not customer-friendly. He was abrupt, short and unprofessional in his demeanor. When he asked how I would be paying and I stated I would be using my credit card , he informed me that a 'soft credit check was required. However, he did not disclose that a hold would be placed on my account nor did he explain toll charges. to make matters worse, the vehicle itself was unacceptable. The car shook badly when driving over 60 mph, the rear windshield did nor work and the outside of the vehicle was dirty. I was extremely disappointed with Buget's service. Management needs to do much better. This was my first and last time renting from Budget, and I would absolutely not recommend renting from them. No cars available even though we booked through Expedia well in advance! Got off the cruise ship and waited a while for the shuttle bus. None came so we took a taxi to the Avis/Budget location nearest the cruise terminals. When we arrived there were people and luggage everywhere waiting. The customer service rep said there would be around a 3 hour wait for a car even though we had a reservation already. There are around 70-100 people waiting in the waiting area and outside the building. We are waiting for our name to be called from a list. I'm wondering if this is a common occurrence? I am hoping this review will be a warning to others. I believe only the people who are the earliest to the location may be the only ones to get their cars on time read more

Horrible! I am giving a star because I can't give it zero. Actually, 1 star is ok because they do have shuttle service from the port and the car that we received was in very good/clean condition. HOWEVER, the rental experience was a nightmare. We arrived to about 50 people waiting outside with suitcases. The line inside was about 50 people deep. About 15 mins per person. When my husband reached the front about an hour and fifteen minutes later, they took his name to be called for service. Total wait time? TWO hours. In line. With about 50 people. AND no A/C! Oh, and no Fastbreak! When we get in the car, the fuel gauge is at 1/2 a tank and our paperwork says full. Go back inside, try to get an agent's attention. Am told that the computer shows 1/2 full, but they can't change the paperwork or sign off as proof. So we shall see when we return the car. I have a feeling that they'll try to charge us for returning it 1/2 a tank. But that definitely won't fly me. Take time stamp photo of your fuel gauge. read more

While I am in the process of boarding a 2 week transatlantic cruise I have to be on the phone with Budget to get a refund for charging me $187.16 fuel charge, even though the tank was full, and was acknowledged by the Budget associate upon return. Which by the way happened to 3 other fellow cruise passengers. This was supposed to be a good experience and instead I had to deal with Budget INCOMPETENCE. BTW they charged me (incorrectly) $187.16, and refunded me $187.15. A penny is not much, but it shows how INCOMPETENT Budget is. I will think 10 times about renting from Budget again. Take a picture of your car's fuel tank level when you turn it in and make sure you have the receipt from when you filled it up. read more

Waited in line 1:45 minutes. Very popular place being so close to cruise port which is why we picked it. We crammed every seat in the shuttle van plus 2. Service was very good once we got to the counter. Paperwork said fuel tank full when it was only 3/4 full. They were so busy probably never checked. Car not detailed but acceptable. If I could give zero stars then I would. This place drove my whole family insane. We just finished our cruise and we were at the port. My parents went to Budget via their shuttle first while the rest of us waited. We had a decently big group. My dad took the shuttle back to pick the rest of us at the port. He tipped the driver already and told him to wait for us which he agreed. We were all walking to the shuttle drop off/loading area and we saw him he fking leaving... ...DESPITE TAKING MY FATHER'S MONEY AND AGREEING TO WAIT FOR US. The reason why I selected this location was because they offered complimentary pick up from Port Everglades. *SCORE!* And the location was opened on a Sunday. The shuttle was outside of the terminal once we picked up our luggage. (It runs every 20-30 minutes.) It was a big shuttle so plenty of room for all of us and our luggage. Once we arrived at the car rental office, everything went smoothly. I was in and out in 5 minutes since I had a reservation. The agents that were working at the desks were polite and even calmly explained to irate customers that they were out of vehicles. (There are only so many vehicles! I mean you can't expect to just walk in and expect a car to be waiting there for you.) Only complaint I have is that the vehicle we got was dirty. It also smelled like smoke. We reserved a car for 8 days at 48.95/day. After standing on line for 45 minutes, we finally got to the counter. They tried to upsell us, but we didn't need a bigger car. The counter guy was VERY nasty. He walked away for about five minutes and said he found us a car. He also charged us $15/day extra, but after standing there for over an hour, we gave in. This facility needs customer service experience from the team members to management. So I rented a minivan, got to the car spot, opened the door, and roaches were crawling all around. Went back to the desk to swap it out. The staff member who checked my out refused to list the damages found as I inspected the vehicle so I walked back inside to customer service to see that it gets done. On our road trip, I noticed several cars flashing their bright lights and later after a truck almost ran unto me we were informed that the back lights were completely out. When I took it back, no one was concerned from the guy who checked the car in to Mr Muir who I was told the manager was. IF MY SAFETY ISN'T A CONCERN, THEN I WILL TAKE MY BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. I was gonna let my horrible experience go with budget when I rented from them.... I had to get three different rental cars in a span of 30 minutes, the first one I got the once I got over 45mph The car shook so bad I thought the tire fell off, so I drove it back to the rental place, they gave me another one, got no more than 2 miles away from them and a warning light came on stating I was in a car accident that I could not go over 35 miles an hour that I needed to pull over immediately, so I turned around and took that car back... I spoke with the manager they apologized, gave me a free upgrade and a free day.. I was going to leave it at that, I appreciated that they accommodated me for the inconvenience... Well 3 weeks later they changed me $90 saying I took the car back on empty and that they're charging me for gas and for a taxi shuttle service to the airport.. well, the rental place is in the airport. I took an elevator, I also filled up that damn car before I took it back because there's no way in heck I'm going to pay the inflated price they chat for gas.. I find it a little suspicious that they waited for almost 4 weeks to charge me for the gas that I supposedly didn't put in it.. I called them to see if they were willing to make this right, but they didn't all I got was if I can't prove I got gas then they won't refund me my $90.. unless I had a paper receipt stating I got gas there's nothing they were willing to do.. so I had to file fraudulent charges through my bank. I'm going to file a complaint with every organization I can to make sure people know what a POS this company is and the crap that they pull... I've rented cars twice a year for the last 15 years I normally go with Enterprise. they've never treated me like this, lesson learned, I guess... Unless you enjoy being scammed and ripped off, I wouldn't recommend using budget ever!! I really hope yelp starts adding negative stars soon because I'd give them a -5.. 12/20/22 My wife and I experienced an unsafe situation when picking up a Toyota Camry from Budget Car Rental at the Port Everglades Cruiseport/ Fort Lauderdale location. First off, I was given the keys to the car and told it was out back and ready to go. It wasn't. I couldn't find the car and a staff person located it in the Budget Return parking area. It had not been cleaned. I was given the keys a second time about 20 minutes later. No explanation and no apology. Since the car was just outside the cleaning station and not in a parking spot, I had to move the car back to the return car parking slot to sync my phone to the car map and media system. I wasn't sure how to leave the budget location to get on to the Florida Expressway. It wasn't two minutes when a staff person from the front desk knocked on the window and told me I was blocking their return car parking slot and I had to move NOW! There were five other empty slots available. No please no thank you just move. I was able to sync Waze at an empty gas station down the street. Now for the unsafe experience. After an hour on the expressway, I was able to toggle the car information system and noticed that the tire pressures were wildly different. The back two were at 41 and 37 lbs. the passenger front at 44 lbs. and the driver side at 40 lbs. I made the fortunate decision to pull into the next service plaza to even out the tire pressures to the pressure indicated on the sidewall. The tires were Bridgestone Touring with a max psi rating of 45 lbs. Since the tires were hot I was going to bring them all to 44 lbs. It was then that i was shocked to find that the driver side front tire was bald and had a quarter size hole in the tread. I could see the woven belting material. This was a disaster waiting to happen. With a hole this big the tire could have decompressed suddenly and pulled the car to the left into a lane divider or oncoming traffic at 70 mph. What to do? 590 miles to go and an unsafe vehicle. We decided to take it slow and drive the 20 miles to the nearest Budget location. This was in a hotel complex that was staffed by one individual with an hour till closing. He did a great job. It took over an hour but he was able to get us back on the road with another vehicle. I was surprised that during the Holiday Season he was able to find us another vehicle. I think he was too. In my opinion, it was negligent for Budget to rent a car with this serious a tire problem. The tires were worn beyond the safety bars and had damage that could have led to a serious accident. I will never rent from Budget or recommend the company to anyone in the future. read more

After reading many mixed reviews And doing my researching on renting a car when arriving on a cruise ship in Port Lauderdale this is what I found. We arrived on Saturday January 4th, 2020 along with 6 or 7 other cruise ships. Get off the ship as early as possible. DO NOT WAIT FOR THE SHUTTLE! Take a taxi the cost is around $10 plus tip. We were the second costumers to arrive before 8am which is when they open. Since the people who got there were waiting outside they opened early to check them in, when we went thru the door at 7:50am they were ready to check us in. The agent said when the shuttles start arriving they are backed up which is not their fault. Their lot looked small so I am not sure how many cars they have available. I was treated very well, they had the kind of car that I had requested and we were in and out in about 10 minutes. read more

The ratings here are fitting. Expect to wait a very long time in line for a shuttle bus. Give yourself at least two extra hours. From what I understand from the employees is that corporate refuses to give them the resources and equipment (additional shuttles) to solve the problem. My understanding is that they used to have a bus that could seat many people and they got rid of it. Overall an absolutely horrible experience getting over to the cruise lines. When we arrived we found out the reservation and the card number had to be under the same name . Well I did not have a credit card on me at that time so we were charged a young driver fee . This was completely misleading and if we had known the reservation and the card number had to be under the same name we would have made sure we had the correct documents with us .
