This company rents both Avis and Budget cars. Same counter, same guy, so my review is about Avis. We were driving to North Carolina on vacation, so we decided to rent a SUV. We decided on a Toyota Rav 4 due to the size, gas mileage and the fact that I am looking to possibly buy one and wanted to get a good feel for it. We reserved the Rav 4 online on 4/28/14 to ensure we got one. We were told we would, and we paid it in full in April for our August trip. I went to pick it up on 8/21/14, and when I gave Jason the counter guy my reservation paperwork, he said "sorry, I don't have a Rav 4, so I'll upgrade you to a Ford Flex." I didn't want a Ford Flex. First of all, it is not what I paid for, it is a lot bigger than the Rav 4 and uses a lot more gas. I asked him to call other Avis dealers to see if they had any. He laughed and said "they won't!" WTF??? Why advertise a car you don't have??? Since I had no choice, I had to take the Flex. If you ever saw one, it looks like a hearse. Anyway, the giant truck had bugs all over the windshield and grill. It was never cleaned from the last renter. When I got it home, I opened the back and it was filled with sand. This piece of crap was a mess. To make a long story short, the damn thing got about 19 miles a gallon on the HIGHWAY, and I spent about $150.00 more in gas with this tank than I would have with the Rav 4. When I took it back today, I told Jason I wanted some type of make good to compensate me for the extra gas I had to buy. His response? "The company looks at offering customers money back for problems they had as stealing." (!!!) My advice...stay away from these crooks. I've been renting cars for many years, and this was the worst experience I ever had! They are the Budget/Avis inside Sears Automotive on Route 1 and Route 18 in New Brunswick. read more

I should have looked at the reviews before renting from this place. Got a car for 5 days, not so clean. Extended for 2 days and got the extended daily fee which I agreed to. Called to extend for a whole week and rather than giving me a weekly rental price they went to extend each day and from a 117.00 original bill I ended up paying 432.00. The guy at the front desk "tried" to help me and was on the computer for a while to tell me later he couldn't help me. At no point tried to contact the manager but he reached out to him when it came to asking him how to split my bill. Told me I didn't have enough money in my debit card (I had like 2,000 on it) so since my Uber ride was almost there I told him forget it and charge it all in the credit. Well next day I found the 200 charged on my debit and the 432.00 charged in my credit. I'm on the phone with them and they have me on hold. Never again! read more

I made a reservation 3 weeks before my move. 2 days before my move I got a call saying there would not be a truck available for me. What the hell was the point of my reservation then? Their customer service representative told me if I found another truck that was more expensive they would reimburse me difference. When I tried to take them up on that offer they rescinded it. This place is giving a bad name to budget and avis.As this place is private owned they are looking to make money from customers by cheating them .I went on Sunday evening before closing hours to pick a car for 2 days they did everything and pulled to sign in agreement and there was 27$ extra per day where I called and made a reservation with a code which was different.I asked by showing mail then the fucking response was contact customer care we can't help on it .I called to care and they told it was private owned we can't pull there information.These f...... people really don't have any ease to help customer and wanted only money...I never recommend this place and ask the owner to make a change over on this type of issues which would help in getting more customer's read more

If I could give less than 1 star I would...each time I rented from this place (my fault for doing it more than once) there was always something wrong. The cars are always dirty and we end up having to clean them on the inside before our journey even starts. This past June, I was told that they have new owners and the car was just cleaned. As we walked outside to the car, it was dirty as if someone had driven through mud and the gas tank was on a quarter tank. I was told to disregard and return at that same level. The manager's cell phone is connected to the main number which gets unprofessional since there is always static and always seems to never be at the location. Worst car rental location ever. I had a confirmed and pre-paid rental with them but they didn't have my chosen car available when I got there to pick it up. They offered another much smaller car which wouldn't have fit my luggage. The front desk person was hopeless. The manager on the phone was like..."take it or leave it". This is not how you serve customers. Poor management and complete disregard for pre-paid reservations. read more

I rented a minivan online for 5 days and paid money online in advance. But when I picked up the van the agreement they made me to sign didn't show up the money I paid online. Ultimately they charged me twice. I called the site few times and they couldn't see the earlier payment. Ended up calling the account department and the rep Dave Wiseman who is really a wise man who found the erroneous charge and refund the money. Also the agreement said the car has full tank fuel but it didn't. Fortunately I took a picture of the meter before taking the car and when dropped off the car which showed the exact level of fuel and send the pictures to Dave who in turn refunded the money too. this is the worst service i have ever experienced. there was only one truck when we got there and asked if it had been serviced recently and they lied when they said yes. they didn't have any moving supplies at all in the office. as soon as we were about to leave the check engine light came on. when we went to the budget location they made us wait two hours for road side assistance and then said it would still be fine to drive. do not use this service. DO NOT RENT FROM BUDGET OR THIS OFFICE. Budget neglects to inform you that if you prepay and return your rental early you will lose all of your money. They claim it is in the terms and conditions but I read what was in my email reservation and I read everything on the page and NOTHING indicated that you will lose your money if you prepay. Also the rep in customer service told me it just started NOVEMBER 1st. Miraculously when I made a big stink about it I get an email with, yes you guess those pesky terms and conditions. I only needed a rental car because I had gotten into a really bad accident while on vacation in upstate New York due to icy road conditions. I called this office to find out if I would receive any money back and I was told by TOM that I would receive money back on the rental and that he had the hard copy if I needed to dispute the previous information give by customer service. However when I called back this Monday Nov 20th the guy turns around and tells me "oh I gave you the wrong information. You were told by customer service that you wouldn't receive money back". All things that I told him when I called Wednesday Nov 15th. OF COURSE any person would be infuriated. I did not berate him but I did EXPRESS my frustrated on how this policy is ludicrous that I would lose all of the money for a two day rental two which he agreed. To add further insult to injury he hung up the phone on me because I presume he did not want to hear about how upset I was. As a customer being hung up on is the rudest thing a person providing a service can do. How do you not expect someone to be upset about losing all their money on rental just because they returned it early? And then being further upset because you were given THE WRONG INFORMATION. As a rule if you are unsure of something you don't just tell the customer what they want to hear and then HANG UP because YOU gave wrong information and now don't want to hear how angry they are. I wish there were negative rating option too. Pathetic service, I called 10 mins ago before reservation and confirm for car availability but once I reached I was told no car is available. I am not sure why they have staff who does not know car availability and still says customer to make reservation. No help, no curtsy no professionalism.
