If you're traveling the I-80 and get a road closure alert outside Grand Island, NE & you're not too impressed with the reviews on the more affordable motels in Grand Island, there is another option. Just one town over you'll find Ken's Motel, in the quaint little town of Aurora. It's a perfectly acceptable budget motel. Dated it may be, but in this girls opinion "dated" is not a bad word. I like blast-from-the-past places like these & I wish they'd preserve more of them as well as they have this one. Friendly staff, clean & comfortable. There's even a full sized fridge. Close to Mc Donald's, Pizza & gas. We also saw a sign for Arby's on the other side of the interstate. Parking may be tricky if you're hauling a trailer in the snow, as we are, but it's doable. We just had to circle the property and come through one of the back entrances. Otherwise, you'll be able to park right in front of your room. It seems to me Aurora would be a nice stop for the family in the summer months, as well. In different circumstances, we would've loved to tour one of their Museums. The Science center looks like a good time for families & the Plainsman Museum is right up my alley w/a "journey through yesterday". We also noticed a community pool w/water slides driving into town. Snowbound or summer fun...Kens motel will do the trick if you're looking for an affordable option while you check out all that Aurora has to offer. read more

Nice clean modest old school motel. When was the last time you saw a metal door key with a diamond shaped plastic motel named key fob? Spacious room . Friendly efficient clerk. Great value. Full size refrigerator. Vanity sink pretty beat up. Daylight bulbs. The parking lot. It looks like Gen. Patton's tank Colin's ran over the concrete. Just sayin. read more

Had some trailer issues so we were running late into the night and came across this little gem! Bottom line- super clean, nice beds great price! Rooms were big and had everything you need- even a full size fridge! Obviously not a fancy hotel but if you're deciding between this or the motel 6 west of this place about 10 miles it's definitely a much better choice especially when motel 6 was charging over $100 for a night. Had good nights rest and always appreciate a clean bed and room. Also family owned and they were super accommodating and nice!! read more

The Plattsmouth Blue Devil's youth baseball team has been coming to Aurora for the past two years. We always stay at Ken's because Ken's staff is very welcoming. The rooms are very nice, well kept, and clean. The rooms are exceptionally priced. The city swimming pool is just across the street so our kids can swim when they are not playing baseball. I've stayed at Ken's Motel a couple of different times, as does my family when they come to visit. Most rooms are large with two beds and a refrigerator, but no microwave which is the only complaint that I have. They do however have a microwave you can use in the lobby. The prices are cheap, rooms are clean and the office staff are great. One night I wasn't going to make it in until midnight, and the guy at the front desk woke up and checked us in, still in his pajamas, and even had saved us a spot to park the huge U-haul with car trailer. read more

We found this place by accident. It was clean, comfortable, and cheap. When I say clean, I mean CLEAN!!!

I'm always skeptical of small hotels like this but some friends suggested it. The lobby was nice and clean and the staff friendly. My room was clean and even in August they had the room pre-cooled. It was evident they aren't just doing bare minimum but take pride in their hotel. It was clean and well maintained with nice furniture, fresh paint and nice beds. My family has been staying here since I was a kid. We love this hotel! It's not a five star hotel but it's very affordable. I paid $40 for a room. It's clean. I love how you can drive right up to your door. It made unloading the van super easy and stress free. There's no continental breakfast but there's a McDonald's right down the street so that was no problem for us. They had no cribs so if you're needing one, make sure to bring the pack-n-play. read more

We were traveling and had car trouble late last night. They were open and a room, the price was good, the room was great! Better than hotels costing double or triple the price! We will stay again when in the area. Outstanding they also accept pets ours travel with us at times. read more

I made a reservation and I needed it for 5 days for me and my dog. I was told sure we are pet friendly. They just aren't people friendly. I was told the manager only allows people to stay for three days. I asked if they liked me could I stay longer and I was told probably. I have stayed here numerous times for years at 4 or 5 days and was never told I the manager only allows people to stY for three days. I got there and the first room I was put in smelled horrible of urine. The carpet had been scratched up down to the cement. I had to use my car deodorizer and perfume to try to cover the smell. I was feeling sick from the smell twice. The next day I asked if I could change rooms because the urine smell was so bad. I was told "they don't like to do to that". I told her I dont usually ask but the smell was horrible. After putting me on hold she agreed to put me in the room next to it. This room smelled better but there was very low water pressure in the sink and only had warm and hot water. The knobs on the heater were not working properly, a couple were broken, and the shower sprayed water everywhere. It was a mess. When housekeeping wanted to come in at 9 I had told then I only recently woke up and the could come back around 11. At 11 the housekeeper came to the door with the manager. The manager rudely told me that housekeeping goes home at 11 and did i need anything. I told her i only needed towels so she brought me some. I called later and asked if i could stay 2 more nights and I was told no that other people needed the pet rooms. I had reservations yet I could not stay longer than three days because it is their policy but other people could make a reservation for the pet room. This really sounds discriminatory that they only allow you to stay for three days and when I asked if the manager liked me if I could stay longer I was told yes. I had to convince them to let me change rooms because the room smelled so badly of urine, the other room had water issues, and I was refused to stay longer than three days. I suggest if you have a pet stay at another motel, even if this is the only motel in Aurora Nebraska go to another city. Room is dirty, smelly, in need of repairs, and the manager is rude, unfriendly, and is in desperate need of some people skills. I have never been in a motel with this bad of service with a person who treated people so badly. DISGUSTING!!! read more
