Waitrose

Waitrose is the food and drink division of the powerhouse John Lewis department store chain. I am…read moreconstantly impressed with the quality, variety of products and the amazing service that I consistently experience every time I shop here. The prices can be a bit high but they are dedicated to bringing top quality meat and produce as well as "foodie" products to English consumers. The Waitrose Cafe is standard though with a upscale twist to the available tea time treats and hot dishes. On my last visit lamb moussaka and rogan josh were the choices. Good cappuccino served with a gold foiled chocolate on the side. Nice touch!

The store is situated just out of town so the access is easy. The layout is really good and they have some great homeware pieces just as you walk in. They are part of the John Lewis chain so the items are not cheap but are really nice, and sometimes it is nice just to browse around this part of the store which sells furniture, electrical items, pictures and gift ideas as well as home furnishings anc children's clothes and toys. The food section is really well laid out too and although the prices seem a bit higher than places such as Morrisons and Tescos, you can often get things that you can't find in other supermarkets, so if you are looking for something special then I find this is a great place to visit. I do find the queues are higher in here than in other supermarkets, but the stafff are always really nice and cheerful. It looks a lot more higher class than other supermarkets but I do find that the price reflects this. It is a nice place but I don't think I could afford to do my weekly shopping here very often.

It is very cheap and aswell as frozen and refridgerated foods, they also sell some tinned and packaged foods, drink, some alcohol and bread. The store is quite small and there are often long queues at the checkouts - quite often there is only one person serving too, and the checkouts are very small compared with other stores. It is not somewhere I would recommend you could do your full weekly shop but if you are looking for some bargains in the frozen food area then I would try this store as it is cheap and easy to get to without having to go into the High Street.

The range of one off items can offer some amazing cheap but good quality items. The staff are friendly and helpful. The queue is often short, maybe it's because they are a well kept secret known only to shoppers who are prepared to shop cheaper. The out of town centre location does not make getting there easy, unless you have a car thouhh.

It is handy for picking up everyday items that you might run out of though such as milk or bread. The only problem is that if you are in the car and passing through Higham Ferrers hoping to pop into this store then it is often difficult to park and you sometimes end up parking really far up the High Street or round the corner. This store is quite expensive compared with places like the big Tescos or Morrisons, but it is probably around the same as the smaller Tescos Express prices which are usually found in small towns or villages like this Co op. The store usually looks pretty clean and tidy and I've never had to queue very long either. If you live locally then it is a handy shop to have, but not one that I would especially travel to.

It stocks all the essentials and has a good range for a small store, but obviously the range is limited. For example, you can't get the low fat versions of things like you can in the bigger stores. They sell some fruit and veg, some fridge items and have a small freezer section too as well as the usual tinned and packaged items, toiletries and magazines. It is more expensive than the normal Tescos stores, but it is convenient for local people and the staff are good too. It is close to the car park at the end of the street which is free to park in.
