I love the cosy atmosphere and the delicious drinks menu!…read more The weather was really beautiful and sunny and my husband and I decided to go for a nice, long walk and we stopped by Starfish & Coffee. The coffee is outstanding and my ginger lemonade was soooo delicious! To me a ginger drink has to be a bit spicy and the ginger lemonade didn't disappoint! To pair with my ginger drink I ordered a slice of banana bread. All of the reviews on Yelp were about the muffins, but I was in the mood for a slice of sweet bread and was a bit disappointed. It was okay but not outstanding. So if I go again I will give the muffins a try! But I'll warn you - be careful where you sit. Because it's a whole foods/eco friendly type cafe, you run the chance of sitting next to smelly people. We had to switch seats. Even the barista had to open the back door when they left to air out the place a bit haha.

The only person in there was the owner. What was the reason it was empty...still trying to figure it out. This place is cleaner and nicer than Barnini...though they don't have bagels (love a good bagel!). I only ordered an Americano as I really just wanted a place to sit. Nice and clean...nothing I'd change. For coffee lovers- they have a variety of coffees, including "slow koffie" ...filter coffees and vacuum filter coffee. Majority of beans are from a local roaster in Antwerp. They make all their own ice creams and have varieties of milkshakes etc. Food menu is quiet limited but looks nice. Wine also available.

Unfortunately the owner was rude to us. He told us it was impossible to serve desert, we could only have dinner because "everyone in Antwerpen eats dinner between 18:00 and 20:00". When we told him we did not know that and were really in the mood for a piece of cake, he said "you should have done some research before leaving the house" We left the place but the owner relented and came after us. He gave us a table in the back and it turned out the restaurant was almost deserted. I had a macarone with chocolate mouse and raspberries, and my companion had the sachertorte. Both were good. Summing up: 3-4 stars for the food but only 1 star for customer service. On average a "meh" experience.

Stop here if you need a good coffee - 5 star recommendation Edit: sorry but after also visiting the bathroom I feel like I have to deduct a point because it is poorly maintained and kind of gross. Sure it doesn't impact the coffee, but there are places that do make the effort to keep bathrooms clean and it wouldn't be fair to disregard that effort.
