I asked her what size do they carry up to a 5x? she replied back "you mean a tent? yes I can order those for you" and proceeds to laugh then asked if I wanted to see their embroidery area. I will never recommend this place for anyone to go to! They treat people very poorly, it's a shame they had to judge me based on my size and not the skill set I as able to bring to the table as I have worked with embroider for years now!

They've seemingly gone to sh** during the long Covid19 Twilight Zone-like nightmarish ordeal. Saddening and rather frustrating. Beyond the discomforting uppity better-than-thou gay fellow, we love the quaint lil shop, and we've twice spent a decent amount of cash there having them make certain items for us. But, between the gaudy gay guy, and the jewelry store strangely closed everytime we've tried to stop in during the past 2-years or so, we've had to frequent other stores, instead of our friends there, who've been in business downtown Lansing for generations now. We hope that the sweet and very skilled elder owners, whom we look upon as friends, are alright. We've become quite concerned, I must say!

I was putting together some embroidery for a Halloween costume and mimicking an existing font and color. They took time to work with me and make sure it was as close of a match as possible. The quality of their work was great. Not sure how often I'll need embroidery services, but I'll definitely be going back here.

The jacket was perfectly cleaned, and quite literally removed 20 or more years worth of cigarette smells and yellowing on the white patches from the previous owner. For $25 bucks to clean, it was an amazing deal, the jacket was also ready two days earlier than expected. And this last part might only be my experience since I probably brought in a not so common item, but i enjoyed getting to talk with a man there about the jacket, you could tell there was a deep appreciation for the clothing's craftsmanship.

She has hemmed several pieces of my renfaire garb, including a very thick and unique cloak. She also suggested putting a hook and eye on the closure, which was a simple tie, and which was an excellent and insightful improvement. Most recently, and the main reason I am writing this review, I brought in a medieval skirt that I thought was too long. She told me I was wearing it too low, and after a few quick adjustments, it did not need to be hemmed after all. She was honest and taught me how to make my garb look sharp. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone who needs work from a pair of pants hemmed to something more intricate and unique. I know I will continue to come to the Golden Needle for years to come.
