My son bought a gift certificate for me and after choosing two bonsais, it took them almost two months to send them. When I asked about it the first time, I was told that it was sent... almost a month later I received the plants. read more

I ordered a metasequoia grove, and it certainly wasn't cheap. It did arrive quickly and in good order. I followed their instructions to the letter and the trees began to fail. One section has dead needles and the rest of them are becoming dull and brown. I sent several emails, received one response asking for photos, which I sent twice and then never heard from them. I'm now going to guess this bonsai will die. This isn't the type of thing that can wait for a response. The tree looks worse daily. Their support is awful. Don't waste your money. read more

I love the bonsai I order here and customer support is always super helpful and they even didn't ship my item because respectively they felt it was too cold so I should wait until the warmer months. This place is really cool. Some of the tree are amazing. When you walk in there wasn't anyone in the main store area. We wandered for a while not knowing where to go until Jerry found us. Jerry was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. He got us to the right place and even shared some information on some of the trees and how to care for them. We found a couple of starter trees and are excited to add them to our home. read more

I ordered a Bonsai tree through Walmart.com which came in a box from Brussel's Bonsai Nursery. This was a gift. The packers at Brussel's Bonsai only secured the pot with saran wrap around the styrafoam at the bottom. There was nothing to secure sides and top, just empty space. The tree came loose in the box, due to poor packing methods. Two branches broke. Called up Bonsai and they said it was not their problem, as I ordered through Walmart. Walmart accepted my return. Since this was a gift, I called Bonsai back, hoping to make an order. The representative was very curt. She said that she couldn't match Walmart prices. She also said she would not ship anything this week. Even saying I would accept a late delivery, she was not going to take my business. After I talked with her, I went to their site. It would of cost me $2.00 more. I did tell her I would write this review. It's a shame. Poor business practice and bad customer relations. read more

This is a follow up to earlier review. I sent that rreview after a Terry stamps said esentially "Sorry it died, there is nothing we can do!" so I gave them 1 star and a bad review. I got a reply from Terra the General Manager saying how sorry she was over the experience we had, and offering to replace the Gardenia with another, if we wantd to try again. naturally we jumped at the chance. Second plant ame in and was beautiful. It is growing like everything and even now has flowers. Our thanks to Terra and the the wonderful response from Brussles Bonsai. We could not be happier. read more

Ordered this bonsai tree on Lowe's.com and was super excited waiting to receive it! I live in Las Vegas, so it's quite a ways away from Florida and was concerned it wasn't going to arrive in one piece. I just got my Chinese Elm today, and it's beautiful. Packaging was great, everything was in place. It has a beautiful shape and the foiliage is super thick! I absolutely love this plant and will definitely be ordering again! read more

Literally no customer service. I thought I was the only person in the store. Walked in the store and could've taken whatever and just walked out the front door. Asked to purchase a bonsai when I finally found people in the back offices. They told me it wasn't for sale due to a project so I put my things down and just walked out. read more

Don't expect them to stand by their products. I got one as a gift. All the leaves fell off. I emailed for advice and they essentially said sorry it is dying and the warrantee is only 30 days. Too bad for you. I'd say the customer service is horrible except it is really non-existent. read more

I love bonsais, unfortunately they don't love me. I've killed more than I've been able successful grow over the years. So I consider myself somewhat of an expert in what NOT to do when trying to cultivate a bonsai. Cultivating a bonsai is an art form. Anyway when purchasing a bonsai, I look for certain things like soil type, and proper root wiring. Obviously I'd like a healthy tree. Over the years I've ordered from several so-called bonsai retailers, with varying degrees of success. I keep coming back to Brussels because they consistently deliver. Most recently I ordered a jade plant on a Friday afternoon. The order shipped Saturday, and arrive the following Tuesday. The packaging is a big box filled with styrofoam I gave five stars because I am repeat / returning customer. That has never been disappointed with an order. Iam a real person, feel free to look at my profile. I Have zero affiliation with the company and I'm in now way compensated. But I would happily recommend Brussel's Bonsai read more

I ordered and got no response. They said their internet and phones were not working. I told them It needed to be sent out right away as I was leaving in a 3 days for a trip. So, they sent it to be delivered in 4 days. I expect it to be dead when it finally arrives as it has been sitting in a hot warehouse for 3 days. Normally anything from them is sent 2 day delivery. I think they did this on purpose as I when I did get ahold of them I was not happy. read more

I have shopped at the greenhouse and had things delivered. Everything was always excellent. If you talk with office staff members they will take time to answer all questions. When I have ordered from them online the items came in looking great and have lived for almost a year now or more. You do have to make sure, as the instructions say, that you never let the plant dry out completely. read more

STAY AWAY! I've ordered 3 or 4 bonsai trees for myself and relatives. All arrived in good shape and viable. I have one here we've had for 7 years. However last fall had an expensive one sent to my daughter and it died. Amy S promised a replacement. Six emails later and total silence...no response. no explanation. I would not recommend doing business with this outfit and beware of MT promises. read more

Be cautious before buying anything here! Prices are NO WHERE near what they are marked as. We expected to spend around $70 and was charged closer to $150. We were told that they recently did price increases and not everything was updated. For two of the plants the printed label said it was $14.00 and she said they were in fact $41 - SERIOUSLY! At this point everyone had spent a lot of time picking out their plants so we were essentially stuck but what a horrible business practice and experience. I'm still frustrated! It wouldn't be fair to leave this review without high praise for their plants. I've never seen such a collection of beautiful bonsai plants. They had beautiful displays of high end trees, building upon building of product...it's impressive. I'd highly recommend stopping and seeing it but again, be very careful before purchasing anything. Note: This is not the place to be walking around in flip flops! The floors have a slimy quality that leaves you slipping and sliding around. We had a few close calls ourselves. read more

Beautiful Dawn Redwood! I sent for and received the most beautiful bonsai from Brussels. He is 4 year old and has wonderful foliage. It arrived in very good condition due to the very careful packaging. For the $50.00 I spent, it was an excellent buy. With care, this tree should last the next 100 years. If you order online you also get a very nice pair of scissors to trim its wayward branches. I would recommend them to anyone, but buy direct from them. read more

We have 3 bonsais ordered via Amazon from Brussel's. The plants are beautiful and my husband is pleased with them. I've called them a few times asking various things. Usually they are helpful, but it's always a different person that answers. So I am guessing, especially from reading the reviews, that this place is HUGE. My husband is interested in possibly getting some bigger and older bonsais but somehow Amazon says it cannot ship to our location (a house in Arizona). We tried various locations of addresses of various relatives in other parts of Arizona, Nevada, Florida, Texas, Indiana and these bonsais cannot be shipped to those places. These are all bigger and older bonsais. However, if we buy the smaller bonsais, Amazon can ship. These were usually the bonsais that were less than $75. So we are not sure why the bigger bonsais cannot be shipped from Amazon. We have not tried going on their specific website to see if it can be shipped or not, especially the older, bigger bonsais. So sometimes the person on the phone from Brussels is helpful and sometimes not. read more

I have been coming here for the better part of 20 years and hate going there. Every time I go, I decide how much I am willing to spend there, and when I leave Ive spent double or triple that amount. This is a huge nursery, the biggest and best bonsai nursery that I have ever been to. The specimen plants are spectacular but still reasonably priced. The selection dropped years ago when importing larger plants from Asia became much more difficult, but they still have a huge selection. I spend half a day there, walking through greenhouse after greenhouse and watching my money disappear. NOTE: Despite the name and address on yelp, "Brussel's" is spelled with one "L" and is located a few miles south of Memphis in Olive Branch, Mississippi, so do NOT follow the yelp map. Go to their website and use their map and directions. read more

They're carefully packaged but it's likely your deciduous bonsai plants will make it through the winter. I have followed the directions explicitly and in each (eight) instance, the plants are dead (or half dead) come spring. Brussel's will not take any responsibility for it and will NOT even offer you a discount to re-purchase. read more

Holy cow, there is a lot of bonsai here! I visited Brussel's in May 2007, and I was impressed by the sheer quantity and great quality of their plants. Who would have known that Mississippi has some sweet bonsai? Brussel's has a huge facility (probably close to the area of 2 football fields) full of bonsais in every shape and size. My friends and I spent a couple hours getting lost. The Japanese azaleas were looking good when I was there. read more

I bought a Hawaiian Umbrella Tree through Houzz and it is a beautiful tree. I am very experienced at bonsai and know a good tree when I see it. It was a large one for $86 and when you consider that included the tree, a large pot and shipping it is a bargain. The tree is every bit the 7-8 years that they advertised. In response to the person who said that Amazon won't ship large trees, I consider this tree large--17"x16" and it came directly from Brussell's with no problems. read more

What a wonderful company!! I ordered two bonsai for my husband for Christmas (from a separate vendor, but "Brussel's Bonsai" was the original source) - a Pyracantha & a cascading Blue Juniper. They arrived so wonderfully packaged & in such fabulous shape that I immediately placed another order for a European Cypress "Grove", consisting of 5 healthy specimens planted randomly in a very natural fashion. Again, fastidiously packed. And when I say "fastidiously packed", I mean plan to spend anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes doing the unpacking. There's no way in hell your purchase won't arrive in tip-top shape with these guys behind it. And prices are more than reasonable for what you receive. Bottom line: Whether you're a beginning bonsai fancier or experienced, but have been leery of ordering via mail, these are the folks to go to. Wonderful healthy specimens at reasonable prices, beyond-reproach packaging, fast shipping - what more can I say? Will I purchase from them again? Definitely! Worth every penny. read more

I received a Bonsai tree from Brussel's as a Christmas gift. Shortly after receiving it, it died...it's DEAD DEAD DEAD (very crispy). No doubt in route to MN when it was below zero, it died. I asked Brussel's about it and was surprised that they would do nothing about it. No replacement.. actually blamed me. Very poor. Do not order and spend your hard earned money on Brussel's. read more

The kids ordered my Birthday Gift, a Juniper Bonsai for $59.99, through 1800Flowers.com The gift was to be the tree, ceramic pot with matching rectangular saucer and plastic tray with pebbles. The package did not contain the matching ceramic saucer, The Juniper tree had a raw one-inch lesion in the top where a limb had been horrifically pruned. I wrote to Brussels Bonsai the day of receipt. (Their website promises 24-hour response). When I didn't hear from them I wrote 1800Flowers, who immediately responded and said they'd replace the whole order FREE. The new order just arrived. This time it's the Small Juniper Bonsai ($39.99), no saucer, no pebble tray. I called the Brussels Nursery Directly, (they're 25 miles away). The lady said all emails come to her and I didn't send one. So, (1) She called me a liar and (2) I read to her straight from the copy I'd sent to myself. She informed me they don't sell matching ceramic trays, they just drop ship merchandise to FedEx. She said I'd have to get in touch with the original vendor. She put me on hold twice without warning and was rude and obviously didn't care a bit about my problems. I thanked her sarcastically for her kind and caring customer service. If you're expecting quality, service or Southern hospitality, find another Nursery in the Memphis area like Urban Earth by Greg Touliatos or Dan West Garden Centers. 1800Flowers.com has been terrific. read more

Very hard to work with. Does not back their products, buyer beware. Ships product in inclement weather, plant is frozen on delivery. They take no responsibility for their mistakes. Update 12/22/17 Was so annoyed I contacted their customer service and spoke with Terry Stamps. I had also sent one photo of the Home Depot grade "bonsai" and he said he saw nothing wrong with it, but requested I send a few more photos. Which I did, yesterday afternoon. I heard nothing after that, so I sent another email yesterday afternoon, and another today asking if he got the photos. Never even responded. They take your money and never look back. What a racket. Stay away from them unless you want overpriced non-bonsai looking bonsai plants. Earlier: What they show in their catalog and what they send are very different, which is very disappointing. We ordered the larger Podocarpus for $64, and the image on their website show a true bonsai looking (gnarled) plant, whereas what we received looks like a small bush from a Home Depot. Wow, was I duped. Also, we indicated on a note to them, which they did not read, that since its bitter cold here, if we are not home, please deliver across the street. If I also didn't leave a note on our front door I'm guessing FedEx would have left it in the snow. Seems the note I left Brussel's was included in a gift card, rather than instructions to FedEx. Brilliant scientists indeed. Also, seems some of their prices are undercut by the same company through Amazon. So their website might say one price, but you can sometimes buy the same product from Brussels, through Amazon cheaper. Wow, what brilliant businesspeople. read more

My Mom sent me a ficus tree from these guys. The packaging is ridiculous. It's a 20" tree and my garbage can is going to be filled with nothing but styrofoam for the next 3 weeks. And I killed the tree just tying to get it out of the box. You can't see what you're doing because it's completely buried in styrofoam. Well it turns out they taped the base of the tree to the bottom of the box. I cracked the main root stem before I realized that. This is a great example why a business needs to do a test run before doing business with the public. If they had ever once tried to get one of their trees out of their own packaging, they would have realized how bad it was. read more

Ordered an indoor bonsai, and it arrived sopping wet with failing leaves at the point of original delivery. Called Brussel's and was told this is normal--this tree needs to acclimate over 30 days when it will lose foliage and then rebound. Well it has never rebounded. A follow-up call and numerous emails have resulted in no action. This is the second time in 5 years a tree was delivered dying from Brussel's. The first time, they sent me another red maple, it arrived in good shape, and has thrived for years. It appears this nursery no longer stands behind it's products. read more

I am so terribly disappointed with these people. Placed the order for delivery to Plymouth, Ma. and verified the name and address of my 97 yr. uncle. They instead sent it to me and sent him clipping shears. Needless to say he was a bit confused. I absolutely explained the situation to her and was given the delivery date, she said it was there. When the box arrived at my home I contacted them and the same person told me the plant was delivered and gave me tracking number. It was for the shears. She was rude, unapologetic and said for me to check out. And here we are. I would not recommend this business, my reporting this meant nothing to her. No customer service at all, just indignant. I am shipping the plant overnight since it was to be delivered Thursday. The cost of shipping was double the cost of the tree. What a disgrace. I was told to contact her again today if I found it wasn't delivered. Guess what? Recording said they are closed until Tuesday. What kind of business is this, the kind that doesn't care but I will never do business with them again. Shame on you. read more

I ordered a Bonsai Tree supplied from Brussel's through Amazon. I was expecting a much smaller tree than I got. The one I received is absolutely beautiful!! I ordered a gorgeous pyracantha from this nursery, as I've ordered and bought from them several times over the years and have always been very happy. Although this company knows how to grow plants, they are terrible at shipping their product, and their customer service matches their shipping skills...terrible. I have been trying to contact a customer service representative for a week. I finally got a hold of someone and she told me that since the product was shipped using Amazon that there was no guarantee that the product would arrive in one piece. She told me to contact amazon to replace the pot, and compared Brussels Bonsai to Walmart. I received my bonsai as a Christmas gift, I had put it on my wish list and it cost more than $50. Since it was a gift and I didn't purchase it on my own Amazon account I cannot go asking amazon for a replacement pot. The pot that my plant arrived in was completely SHATTERED in shipping. It arrived in a box with Brussels labels - not amazon labels on it! Now I am left with having a to find a pot of the right size that has the proper soil and drainage and this is my first bonsai. I am afraid my plant will die, and angry that I have to spend more time and money just to get started. This is not the product I expected when it was ordered. My daughter sent me a Fukien Tea as a gift. It arrived in a box with the pot wrapped in in clear plastic and the plant in Styrofoam. I did have an issue with the wiring and called and was greeted by Elizabeth and explained the minor scaring on the trunk of the plant. I offered to send pictures which she immediately sent an email to send them to. The next morning I got a response from Amy. I asked that they review their quality control practices to prevent this avoidable flaw. She thanked me for bringing this to their attention. This was all done within two days. Brussel's is the largest bonsai nursery in the country. And, he has bonsai for some one who is just getting started in bonsai on a budget. He also has specimen bonsai for the super avid bonsai enthusiast. He has several events during the year giving discounts. The big event is the Rendevous, the last weekend in May each year. For a small fee you get to free demonstrations for three days from some of the leading bonsai artists in the bonsai world. For a fee you can sign up for specialized workshops where the same artists will help you design your own bonsai. And, they feed you some good southern food for 3 days. I go there every year and its great to see people I saw the years before. It's like a big reunion. I've learned a lot in the workshops, and met some great friends. If you can't go to the Rendevous, then just go to Brussel's and check it out. I don't think he is usually open on the weekends though. read more

The bonsai was beautiful, however it began to sicken within two months. I received no response to my emails, even after I was given the name of the bonsai master.
