Movie tickets were so much cheaper and they showed a variety of films, not just the blockbusters. I remember when I use to go to the movies at Sunnybank every week. It wasn't the flashiest cinema with their small screens and worn seats but it was a bargain price. Since it re-branded as a Hoyts, the ticket prices have gone up though they haven't done much about refurbishment and I'm still waiting for that larger selection of movie releases they promised.

Everyone knows that South Bank is the best place (read cheapest) to go for movies if you live in or…read morenear the city. What many people don't realise is that the same people that operate the South Bank cinemas have a few other locations; Hawthorne, Balmoral and Victoria Point. Victoria Point in particular is my favourite, mainly because it's closer to where I live, but also because there is ample free parking and it's a lot quieter than its city based counterparts. Victoria Point also offers a Deluxe Cinema option, which costs an incredibly cheap $12.50. It's not quite as superior as Gold Class in other movie complexes, but it's still a step up from the regular cinemas. The chairs are more plush and in groups of two. You can also order food and drinks, including alcoholic beverages, to be brought to you during the movie. My only complaint is that the chairs do not recline, one of my favourite aspects of Gold Class. However, if you want a bit of a treat you won't find much better than this at such a super low price. And if you're seeing a movie suitable for children, it's a great way to avoid noisy kids or bravado teenagers. Take note that opening hours depend on session times, but the general rule is that doors open 15 minutes before the start of the first session each day, and close about 15 minutes after the start of the final session of the day. On Mondays there are no late-night sessions.

The hyperplex cinemas are not like your average cinema as they are owned by the Hyperdome shopping centre. The tickets are about average priced. Gold glass tickets are a set price no discounts just because you are a student or anything. I do love the fact that if you buy you tickets online you can print them yourself without having to line up with everybody else. I would avoid the cinemas during school holidays as they can get packed full of children. They do have mothers in pram showings and day out with the girls, where you can do group booking. For these special events they are limited shows, like in not every movie out is offered.

The Regal Twin is a beautiful, old world style cinema that definitely has an intimate vibe (well, it says it in the name, there are only two cinema's...). With only two cinemas in which to show films, there isn't a huge number of sessions and the latest session starts around 8.55pm, so you have to be a bit organised in planning the film you're going to see. Audience numbers aren't huge, however, so you're usually guaranteed a seat if turning up just before the start of the film. My favourite bit about the Twin Regal is the gentleman who sometimes takes tickets at the door. He's a slightly old-world character and greets every patron entering the cinema with a very enthusiastic, "Enjoy the film!" Love him. Love the Regal Twin.
