This is hard to leave a review without being totally open to criticism because of my story but…read moreoverall, I was really scared and I was going back and forth between this clinic and planned parenthood, ultimately I decided here based on the financial person I spoke to on the phone being so dang helpful and kind. The whole experience wonderful and everyone was so gentle and kind and supportive of your choice, I didn't feel any judgement or uncomfortable feeling, I felt i could ask anything. They took really good care of me through out everything and helped me through my emotions. Hugs, talks, everything I needed while I cried. I just wish my partner was allowed in but I understand their precautions. Thank you to everyone there that really made me feel at ease during this whole process.

This 2nd time was so scary for me I don't even know what happened, I wasn't aware when they put me to sleep and I wasn't aware of being placed in a Chair after being in the surgical room. Never received after surgery go over. They just gave me discharge papers and read the after surgery care... I'm just getting home and will be calling to ask what medication I was given threw out the process. I'm experiencing vaginal BURNING so I think they cut my vagina area due to tools and stretching... but I was not told about what happened or if that's what happened to me. Over all unhappy and scared.

I was a hysterectomy patient shortly before the quarantine, and I'm on the fence about Valley…read moreWomen's Clinic. Dealing with the front desk staff made me just weary. Once you're in their system, everything - appointment scheduling, reminders, instructions - is done online through MyChart, which I love, and which is good, since phone skills aren't their thing, as I found on the few occasions when immediate contact was necessary. Apparently scheduling is a challenge as well, since I was called more than once to have an appointment rearranged - not due to deliveries or emergencies, but because "You were scheduled on a day when the doctor will be at the hospital." (That might not be a direct quote, but it's pretty close.) There was a battery of tests that I needed before surgery, which the doctor forgot to issue orders for... So the (incredibly wonderful and competent!) Star Clinic was none too happy to see me the day before surgery to rush tests that should have been done two weeks prior. Medication errors were made after surgery, giving me and the poor nurses at the hospital quite a rough night. Three weeks after surgery, I was dealing with terrible menopausal symptoms, which I had been told to expect, and that hormone therapy was always an option. Upon reporting my hot flashes, fatigue, and near constant crying, the surgeon suddenly decided that I didn't need estrogen to deal with menopausal symptoms, just Effexor. (After a complete hysterectomy, mind you.) And while I was summoned to the office to discuss these issues, my final post-op checkup two weeks later was cancelled and I was released to work without an actual physical examination "due to the quarantine." (I understand, I'm taking the lockdown seriously... But both events took place while while the Shelter In Place order was in effect, and the work release seemed far more important to me!) I won't say there were no positives. The surgery itself went well. The medical assistants are top notch - they answered all my questions completely and gave helpful tips. And my understanding is that the clinic is a wonderful place to be if you are going to have a baby, which nearly all of the other patients were. So maybe they're just better with pregnancy than with the other end of the spectrum! I hope so. Good luck... But get to your appointment at least 20 minutes early, because their parking situation is quite limited, and you may be in for a walk!

Whatever provider you see for your first appointment is the one you're stuck with all pregnancy (I was told I'd need to "ask permission" to switch). I was told there are no same/next day/urgent appointments available at all, and if I was having any concerns before my 12 week (!!) appointment to "just go to the ER, but there's nothing anyone can do about a miscarriage that early" (except.. tell you if symptoms you're experiencing are likely a miscarriage, as it's emotional agony to be bleeding and not sure if it's going to get better or worse..) When I pointed out how expensive and unnecessary that is the person on the phone just said "well, we can't help you in the office." So, if you have a miscarriage, you will miscarry alone because they don't have the capacity to care for you. I had an amazing birth experience at Valley in 2020 and it's depressing that this clinic is the only option left since Associated Valley moved to Swedish. I did have a good experience with Amy Steers, though we only chatted through MyChart - she seems very caring.

I recently had to start looking for a new OBGYN due to a move out of state and it made me realize how much I'm going to miss going to Dr Chang. Dr Chang was my first OB ever and to say I was nervous about my first appointment is an understatement. I felt pretty ridiculous for being so nervous after that appointment. I've never felt so comfortable before in a doctor's office. I immediately felt welcomed and they treated me as if I had been a patient for years. The entire staff is SO nice and you can tell they all genuinely care about the patients. I can't remember the receptionists name but she was always super quick to check me in and just a very warm person which helps a lot when you are as nervous as I was. Garland (sp?) is also fantastic. I had quite a few issues with my birth control (my body is extra picky) and had to change several times and Garland was always very quick to return my phone calls and help me with any questions. The appointments themselves are pretty quick, but Dr Chang is really patient and took the time to answer all of my questions. I didn't have many my first visit but Dr Chang seemed to realize I was nervous and talked about a lot of things I probably should have asked about. I was ready with questions on my second visit and she had very thorough answers and really wanted to make sure I understood everything. I completely agree with the reviewer who made the comment about hanging out - she has such an easy going and friendly demeanor!! If you are anywhere near Des Moines and need to find an OBGYN stop looking and go see Dr Chang.

No one is ever running to be early to these visits. Mine was no exception and it was choc full of everything these appointments are famous for as well as a few new ones since now we have "age related concerns". I'm not going to lie. There was talk of me rescheduling and never returning. It is with mixed emotions that I say that both Jackie ( the MA) and Dr Lewing were nothing short of ....I honestly can't think of an appropriate word. They both exhibited traits of genuine concern, empathy, a sense of humor when appropriate and a sympathetic word of encouragement when we were all parting ways. Dr Lewing was extremely educational, honest and straightforward with information. Not only will I return without being forced, and I'm certain to never enjoy our visits, I trust them and for that reason as long as I remain a female I'll be a patient
