Lin Martial Arts - Team Lin having Fun after winning at the Ontario Open tournament

Lin Martial Arts

(1 review)

I have trained in over 8 different gyms around the world (US, Canada, Brazil) and I have to say…read morethat Lin MMA is probably in my top 2. Probably top BJJ school on my list but not top MMA school. In my opinion, the BJJ here is top notch and the instructors are fantastic. They have a game plan scheduled out for the entire year and the drills and techniques are done so that you can learn and get a great understanding and grasp of the moves. Professor Lin is a black belt BJJ artist who is easy to get along with and holds the respect of the entire class. The instructors are top notch and champions. The decor of the gym is more BJJ oriented. There are 3 big areas for classes along with heavy bags along the edges for the Muay Thai/Kick Boxing classes. There is also a small gym with free weights. Everybody who trains here are extremely respectful of you and if you are a beginner, you won't get thrown to the wolves like some of the other gyms that I've trained at. As a beginner, you will get brought along slowly until you have enough understanding to defend yourself against more advanced guys. There are beginner and more advanced classes. The new guys to this sport will be placed in the beginner classes before graduating to the more advanced classes. They are open on Saturdays which is a great thing because I like to train as often as possible. If you do end up getting hurt, there is an incident report that they file for their records. I ended up tearing the meniscus in my right knee while rolling so that pretty much ended my training here because I was sent back to Brazil for work so am training in Brazil now. Price-wise, this is a little more expensive than what I usually pay (compared to US prices because in Brazil, I pay pretty much next to nothing). I was only signed up for 3 months because I was on vacation during this time and wanted to continue training but as a monthly fee, it was a little pricier than what I had wanted to pay. However, I definitely have to say that I got more out of training here than I ended up paying for so that is a plus! Now, I have trained at Rev MMA and I have to say that the BJJ at Lin MMA is significantly better. The guys at Rev are less respectful of you and will go all out on rookies. Also, Lin MMA is cheaper!! Rev MMA is associated with Carlos Newton which is probably why they say they can jack up the prices. I have only trained at these two gyms in Toronto but can say that Lin MMA is probably the best in Toronto. Thank you Professor Lin and all of the coaches. If I am ever back in town for an extended period, I will be coming back to continue training after my knee heals up.

I have been training with sifu teacher kenny for 1 year now…read moreWing chun kung fu I feel very lucky to have found sifu kenny as a teacher He is very knowledgeable in wing chun kung fu and possibly others but wing chun is the focus He is patient and focused and knowledgeable and has a peaceful nature as martial arts is about protecting your self or others under your care only as a last resort it is to the point if used no jumping around and doing flowerly hands = movements that show off etc. Wing chun is direct and to the point with very little wasted movements or openings that is the goal avoid if you can or protect yourself if you got no choice I am in my 50s now and i trained other martial arts when i was younger and i took 20 years off i see the difference that wing chun offers. I like to learn private 1 on 1 or with another student on occasions with sifu kenny smaller classes gives me the opptunity to ask questions and see things more close up this is HUGE for me as most schools train in big classes and dont offer 1 on 1 teaching option this is harder to find but this takes learning to a different level i feel. Thank you sifu kenny i am honored to have met you and be taught by you and thank you for spending the time to teach this chinese martial art to others so that the spirit of wing chun stays with us and we rember the history and contributuons we learned from the chinese culture in regards to martial arts and inner peace.

Located at NE corner of Highway 7 and McCowan Road, this new 9Round Fitness franchise has been…read moreopened for exactly a month now, and a lot of people have been raving about it (including myself... I've been seeing results!) It is a 30-minute circuit training with 9 stations, including a full body workout; you work with in-house personal trainers, and you get to punch and kick stuff #whynot lol. Another good thing is that you can drop in any time; the circuit starts every 3 minutes - just jump right in! The only time you need to book a time slot is when you sign up via website for a free trial session to see if you like it :) Please do take advantage of it if you're curious/interested and if you want to make a different in your overall health! Honestly, I have been such a long time yogi; I was a bit iffy about kickboxing/circuit training when my coworker asked me to join - it does sound a bit rough and I'm too fragile and delicate LMAO. I have decided to give 9Round a try; I go with my coworker at least 1-2 times a week after work. You can do the training stations by yourself, or work in pairs - which is what we did - it was more interactive, we had a lot more fun, and we push each other to work harder! After a month, I noticed that I have become stronger (now with muscles!), toner and my metabolism has surprisingly increased (aka, I eat a lot more now! Food fuels my hungry muscles lol). The owners, Joe and Irene, are very welcoming and passionate people, and they know your names by heart right when you walk in... okay maybe not Joe, he still mixes me and Julie up lol. The trainers at 9Round are friendly and encouraging, and always cheering us on... even though I know they are sweaty and tired. So, thank you :) Overall, I see potential that 9Round will do very well. I have already seen improvement - the way the manage the time, the flow of the stations, the adjustments and alterations for kickboxers of varioius levels. A quick shoutout to trainer, Ken - thank you for customizing my last workout, I really appreciate that. #girlWHOhasFATarms lol. Keep up the good work, 9Round :) P.S. Make sure you bring your indoor shoes! Owners pride on keeping their place clean at all times :)

I came in for a 30 minutes trial with Joe and immediately felt in love with in. Talk about a FULL body workout, I recall I was in pain for 3 days after my free trial! This wasn't the ONLY reason why I joined though, Joe, Irene and their trainers are all so devoted in ensuring you get a good workout everytime and slowly increases the difficulties as they assess your progression. I can't squat AT ALL back then and now I can say I can do a pretty good squat hold. 30 minutes workout, 9 stations, 3 minutes each station really doesn't take too much time at all and you feel GREAT after. I try my best to come here 3 times a week usually after work, see if you can catch me at 9Round one day throwing some punches and kicks! Special shoutouts to the great previous and current trainers here! Joe, Ken, Michael x 2, Steve, Jade, Peter and of course Irene for making a 30 minutes workout intense AND fun at the same time!
