The Ohio Attorney General assisted me in getting the company to acknowledge my cancellation. I received a formal written letter acknowledging the cancellation and the charges were waived. The owner is never available. The 'owner' (not really) responds if you leave a bad review. You can ask for the owner when they don't show up, when they wantonly over charge you ,when they don't clean up when they send you bogus bills. The owner will never respond. I've been using Brookside for the last few years and recently noticed a drop off in quality. I left a message at the beginning of the month as the weeds were getting so bad despite their treatments. I requested an additional treatment since previous ones were not working. 5 days later they fertilized my lawn but did nothing for the weeds. In the meantime, I cancelled service but was still waiting for them to remedy the weed treatment they didn't do successfully prior to August. I called four times with no response until today where they acted surprised I would want the weeds killed. They also claimed the weeds were treated on August 5 yet here it is the 19th and there is no change so of course the weren't treated. Disappointed in a company I worked with for years. I should have paid attention to the reviews. I had my previous lawn service for 12 years and only switched because of multiple price increases. I have more weeds with Brookside than I ever had before. I called to tell them I am pulling weeds constantly, and I'm talking 40-50 dandelion plants not 3 or 4. They told me they would come back out at no charge to correct. Well, they did come back out but said since it was getting close to my next application anyway I would have to pay. I'm not playing these games, 1 season and done with them. I suggest you read the reviews carefully. read more

They depend on you not reading the fine print. They state in their bill that if you don't explicitly cancel service, they will continue service. And if you forget that bit or don't notice it, you are on the hook for service that you don't want. Service is bad anyway, and their reviews have tanked in the last year, so be sure to send them a letter if you want to cancel. Or at least call them and record the event. Don't assume that because you didn't explicitly authorize service that you won't get a bill. read more

We have been with Brookside for many years. They are very response, professional and always do what is right for the customer. Had our lawn aerated and the technician was professional and courteous. Have irrigation system which was flagged (they call a day before) and technician also avoided the area with internet and power lines, giving a foot of clearance. I've used this company for many years. They literally saved our yard. A few years ago after a drought, we tried to fix our mostly dead lawn ourselves, but made it worse. Brookside came and started treatments and the lawn came back with a vengeance. If we've ever had questions or concerns over the years, they are quick to respond and always very friendly. Extremely scummy business practices. I used their services for a year without any noticeable change in my yard. I called at the end of 2022 to cancel my service. Instead of canceling my account, they put my account on "hold" as they call it. Come March of 2023, they come out to do the first treatment of the year on my yard. I was very confused because I had made them aware that I'd like to cancel the service so I called them again and told them that I'd like to cancel my account. I also paid the bill for the March 2023 treatment to avoid any hassle. Finally, I thought my account was canceled. NOPE. In March of this year (2024) they came out again and treated my yard and billed me another $50. Their cancellation policy is as follows: you call to cancel, they put your account on hold, they send you letters about your upcoming treatment, and if you don't call to cancel AGAIN, they'll continue your services again and bill you. Companies such as Amazon have been sued for similar deceptive practices regarding their subscription models. I will be reporting Brookside to the proper authority for their deceptive practices as well. read more

Terrible company to do business with. I believe they use to be a good company Because I used them for years but after this past 2024 season I would give them a zero star rating. They hardly answer the phone when you call but they do call back, just not necessarily a good time. They came to treat for grubs, yard looks great btw, within 2 days it was torn up from raccoons eating grubs. I called said hey whatever you put done attracted raccoons and absolutely devastated my yard, please stop out here and see what can be done to correct this. 3 days later they send someone out and they treat the entire front yard ( I have roughly an acre of grass). I got home from work to my surprise they put grub control thru the entire front yard. I called no answer, they called me back and said oh not sure why they did that. 2 days later..front yard was torn up from raccoons ...destroyed a perfect lawn. I can't type everything that was talked about but brookside has the worst communication in house...they must hate each other, took weeks to get someone to my house that was in management but they would not set up a time so I could meet with them, that is their policy which is ridiculous. I will be fixing my lawn, they sent someone out the overseed after weeks on poor communication but that will not repair exactly, I ordered top soil and spent a lot of time repairing it correctly. Brookside called me at end of year to tell me they will not be treating my lawn for 2025, I said no shit, I wouldn't want you treating my artificial turf. To see how many bad reviews they have and others that had the same issue after they used their grub control makes me believe they use inferior products and would love to talk to a insider their that has been fired to see how shady they actually are. read more

I started my services with Brookside over six years ago. I bought a house with a yard that needed a lot of attention so I hired Brookside to provide the basic applications weed control and ferterlizier. I was asking for miracles to happen so I keep up with their recommendations over the years, thatching, aerating, watering in the summer and over seeding. For the last 4 years I have kept up with brookside's service package and for the last 4 years my lawn has been completely dead by July 1st every time I called and asked them to come out and take a look and let me know what was going on it was something different each time,you have Bill bugs you have grubs you're not watering enough you have too much thatch it got to the point where every year it was something different. This year 2025 I even purchased the additional insect application thinking this was an insect burning up my lawn. This year I about had it my entire lawn by July 1st is completely burnt I called up and canceled my services and their response was okay let us know if you need anything else . I was expecting them to say we will have someone come out and take a look at things and see how we can help since I've been a customer for so long but they just let me go just like that what a waste of money read more

I would rate this company a zero but that is not an option. Customer service is horrible from call center staff to office manager to management. They do not show up timely, they make up excuses, cancel appointments, sent a new worker of two weeks to do a soil sample with no prior training and not proper tools (he wanted to use an aerator in a section) to do soil sample. I told him no thank you, we have a sprinkling system and sprinklers that are not marked...that was a horrible idea from an untrained employee that management sent out anyways. After the manager received my complaint, they did not try to rectify the situation, instead they secretly drove by my house, never stopped to meet with me or even inform me they were coming. Then a manager called me from an UNKNOWN number. She had the most horrible customer service and attitude herself. I was told they will send me a check for full refund. I would never recommend this company to anyone. If you listen to their message machine and recording, everything they say is a true lie of my experience with them this season. I've used Brookside Lawn for over 7 years. My lawn is weed free and in good shape. Brookside is reasonably priced.

Have used Brookside for over 5 years and have at least 5 treatments annually (including grub treatment) so I estimate that I spent over $3,000-$4,000 with them. Lawn was devastated by animals searching for grubs in lawn despite being treated for grub control annually. Called them and they said they would repair my lawn "make me whole" were the exact words and said they would send out someone to address. I clearly told them I had four 10'x10' areas that were ruined. After two weeks and no visit by Brookside they said they would get someone out immediately. Someone came out while we were gone and repaired one area even though all areas were visible with little flags in the affected areas. Called them again to ask for manager to come out which he did. Talked with him and he said that he was satisfied that all areas were treated. It was obvious only one area was treated and asked him if it was his lawn would he be satisfied? He mumbled something indiscernible. I told him that despite their claim that I would be made whole this was far from that and if he planned to do nothing more than you guys are fired. I'll try and show pictures. All other lawns in neighborhood were perfectly fine with no grub devastation just ours. Clearly, being polite, I would not recommend their services!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Brookside destroyed our lawn. When we contacted them about it, they made every excuse in the book to escape responsibility, drought, insects, improper seeding, etc. Loved the improper seeding excuse since they were the ones who overseeded last fall. When ask why none of the adjoining lawns have this kind of damage, while under the same environmental conditions, they have no clear answer. Now they refuse to even contact me regarding a resolution as promised. Strongly advise not to hire Brookside Lawn service. Their guarantee of a greener healthier lawn means nothing. We cancelled our service mid-season after being with them a couple years. They sent a guy out to treat our lawn two weeks after we cancelled and left us a bill. We mailed it back reminding them that we cancelled. They said my wife cancelled but they wanted to confirm with me. What is that?? Had them for 4 seasons. I cancelled in writing 2019 season in February as their policy sates. They still came out and treated saying they left me message saying if I don't call they will treat, not sure why they would after confirming they received a written request to cancel. I guess they don't cancel accounts even if you follow their guidelines for cancellation process. They are claiming the tech came out and my wife told him not to treat because it was raining and he had her call the office to request no treatment that day and come out another day. My wife does not get involved nor does she know which service providers I use for outside lawn treatment, maintenance or bug control. I called them after I found out they did treat my lawn and asked why did you after I cancelled as I already have another service that is treating and already applied what they did the same week!!! I told them I am not paying for unauthorized services and they have to cancel the billed amount. They did not and now they have a collection agency calling me. They leave me no choice but to take legal action against them for trespassing and performing unauthorized services. They used to be great but they must be using cheap chemicals or have not so good workmanship because my yard has been full of weeds the last few years and they even recommended me to help kill the weeds. The lawn care that was provided was a good value and met my expectations. My original phone call to sign up was for 5 treatments per year, as well as spot treatments as needed. They offer many other services in addition to this, however, after scheduling a lawn aeration in the fall a few years back, the company automatically schedules and performs them annually. This was not a yearly agreement or service like the original lawn treatment plan. If you don't call them to cancel this service each year, they will perform it and bill you for it. I had asked them to not perform the aeration a couple of the years when I happened to catch their service plan letter in the mail, but I think this is a poor business practice to continue to do this and expect the customer to pay for it. They have refused to remove the charge from my account, as well as charge $2 per month interest on top of their BS bill for aeration. I have cancelled my service with them completely. read more

We have used Brookside since we moved to town in August of 2016. Their rates are reasonable, they are quick to respond to requests for service, and their staff is very pleasant and conscientious. For example, we had a Halloween decoration blow over during the night last week. I didn't fix it in the morning before work, but it was upright and scaring the neighborhood when I got home that evening. I discovered that the Brookside technician had come to aerate the lawn that day and he fixed the decoration for me! That's truly "above and beyond!" Thank you, Brookside! read more

I've used Brookside for a year or so now, ever since my daughter worked there as a summer job. Her working there opened the door to the best lawn care service I've ever had. We have a large yard we landscaped from scratch. As former farmland, the yard is prone to field grass and weeds. In just one season, Brookside has eradicated the clover, broadleaf weeds and crabgrass that infiltrated the lawn. My lovely, hardy fescue grass looks like a lush golf course! And what's more, customer service is outstanding. Not only is the office staff willing to work with you to set up the right plan and services for your preferred price point, but they are never pushy or demanding that you buy more. As well, I was absolutely touched when a lawn tech, who bumped a decorative plaque on my mailbox, wrote me a personal note about it and talked to my husband, who was there at the time. I also got a phone call from the owner who said he had tried, unsuccessfully, to find a replacement online. "No biggie," I replied. Just knock a few bucks off the next bill. This is a sad story I have to share. I have been using Brookside lawn Service for lawn maintenance for years. We were doing some serious landscaping over the Summer. I advise Brookside to pause our service until the landscaping was completed. In the middle of all this (see pics), Brookside showed up to service our lawn, even though I had cancelled. We again told them to pause our service. We then got an invoice for them coming out and doing nothing. I politely called them to dispute the charges, giving all the details. They are still billing me adding interest each month. They do good work, but they are also more costly than their competition. Where to begin...unfortunately I need to give Brookeside Lawn Service a 1 star, I'd go lower if I could. Stay away from these guys, your are better off doing it yourself instead of wasting money to try to undo what happens when they service your lawn. I have taken care of my lawn for the last 3 years, never had an issue with it. Decided that I'd let a professional company take care of it so I didn't have to worry about it anymore, the cost was relatively the same. Boy, I wish I could take that back. Weeds started growing rapidly in August, Brookside Lawn Service came and put down and application late August and I left 2 days later for vacation. When I returned from vacation 11 days after they put down and application weeds that we their before I left took over my entire yard. Over 50% of my grass was brown and covered in weeds. It was a holiday weekend and I could not wait for them to come and service my lawn a day more. I had to tear my entire lawn up and put down new dirt and reseed my yard and spend over $250 to get my lawn back. I called as soon as I could and let them know of my displeasure. I spoke with a woman named "Cindy" who claimed to be a manger. I canceled my service, told her I did not need a manager to look come look at my lawn since I had to reseed everything and asked that she revert the charges of the last service. Which she said she would do and hoped that I started service again in the Spring. I just got a bill in October with interested added to it, I called again and told Brookside Lawn service that Cindy said she was taking care of the bill. Cindy no longer works there and they needed my $54.08 with interest but they were willing to work with me and take off $4.00 for the interest. Gee thanks, your check will be in the mail and here's your review. You'll need it because business will not be so great very soon just looking at some of the other more recent review. THE WORST OF THE WORST BEWARE!! They sound halfway nice on the phone, talked me into changing services over to them and COMPLETELY KILLED MY YARD! Spent thousands to have whole yard fixed and they have the nerve to call me for trying to collect $120 in charges for killing my yard and could care less about the issues they caused for me and my family this past summer. They had no clue what they were putting on my yard and would do it mid day in the heat of the sun, in the rain, whenever was convenient for their reps schedule. Every bag of fertilizer or lawn treatment says "DO NOT APPLY IN FULL SUN, RAIN OR RIGHT AFTER MOWING". That's all they did. Everything I pointed out to them they blamed on Mother Nature regardless of my whole neighborhoods lawns looking great lmao.. Just stay away and save your hard earned time and money. I will stick up for the others on here because I stressed to them that I would not push the fact they ruined my yard with all the expenses I incurred to correct it but, I better not see a bill for ruining it. They literally started calling 3 times a day at dinner time without a care in the world for what they have done. Everything was fine until it wasn't. They had one application that burned parts of my grass. they offered to give me an extra fall application. I said, no you have to make this right and waive the messed up application before we talk about future business. Josh says " we'll put your account on hold until this gets resolved". two months go by - i never paid for that application but did pay for grub prevention. The finally agree to waive the screwed up application. So I said, " i told you once i was whole we could do business again." So now they offer to do my lawn at a rate 33% higher. Beware! Read the fine print. You will think you will be signing up for a package of 7-10 treatments but in the teeny tiny fine print on the bill it says service continues permanently and you have to call to cancel. At first I did not mind as it was occasional and at the time I was always open to new service if the price was right. But 4 years ago I moved to a new home where my lawn service is taken care of for me, literally I don't have a lawn to take care of anymore. I have kindly asked them to take me off their phone list over the past 4 years and yet I am still receiving calls. Here is a kicker, they keep their number unlisted so you cannot tell who is calling nor block the number. So you pick up the phone call and its Brookside Lawn Service trying to sell me a service that I cannot use.
