I remember surfing the web here in the early days of the Internet while in middle school and renting DVDs and VHS tapes. Did I just date myself?! Yep. Sure did. I'm old. Fast forward to today and Brooklyn Public library is still a gem. It's a beautiful building with so much to offer on the inside. More recently I took my kid there to explore the children's section and take out some kiddie books. The children section is definitely popular and draws a crowd. The book selection is solid and your tiny person can play for a bit. There was a random guy kind of lurking around so as with any public place, you need to be vigilant. Security is present as well. The staff is extremely friendly and all are welcomed to enjoy the space, learn, read, grow, etc.

There's a lot of great online content and applications available to you if you're a member. Some are applications that would cost you if you download them from the App Store. I'm not sure where my review is but I know I did one. I'm going to look for my photos. I've been to some great exhibitions that I'll share photos after I find them! I've got friends that live in Brooklyn and we meet at the library. I have to admit that if I didn't love Manhattan, Brooklyn would be my second choice! It's not super huge, but it's not a terrible place to get a little bit of work done to pass some time. I arrived recently when it was warmer than usual. Unfortunately, that meant the AC wasn't kicking in. That was a bummer. There are a couple meeting rooms along with some space for people to do some work for a short amount of time. There is a play area for kids, so it can get a bit noisy though. Then again, the library has to serve the greater good of the people. The architecture, as some have mentioned, is quite new and modern. It does make it a pleasant experience to enjoy. I don't know if it's super spacious, but it does do the job.

Updating my review because the new library location at One Clinton is fabulous. The space is a…read morelittle wonky shaped, kind of like an arrowhead as the space does occupy the corner of Cadman Plaza W and Clinton St. There is a children's section in the basement, a reading room with plenty of desks on one side of the first floor and a reading circle on the other side, and a teens space on the mezzanine level upstairs. As it is a fairly new and renovated space, everything is really nice and clean. The library itself is massive and houses so many books too. My only complaint is that I wish the desks in the reading room had outlets on both sides of the table and that there were more tables and desks near the reading circle as it is not the most comfortable place to sit and read.

This was almost the perfect spot for me to achieve my Nursing studies.

I would hop from one area to another because I tend to get bored if I stay in one area too long. Some days I wanted to be surrounded by tall windows with the sun shining through leaves onto my studies. Other days I preferred a darker space with just the bright glow of my desk light. There are some spots that are designated quiet-only. Those were usually my favorite. The AC is often on full-blast, maybe too much so bring layers. Some spots have wi-fi, some don't. I never figured it out to be honest.

I've avoided using the public computers because, well... let's just say the ambiance isn't ideal--between loud coughing fits and the occasional old man fully snoring, it's not exactly the vibe for focused work. There's a children's section immediately to the right of the entrance with tables, a rug, and a few computers for the little ones. It's thoughtfully set up, but again--space is the issue. Everything feels tight and crowded, which is surprising (and honestly disappointing) given how large and family-heavy the Park Slope neighborhood is. It works in a pinch, but it's not the kind of library you linger in for long.

Ave. New York, NY 10018 Treasures: The Polonsky Exhibition is a free museum located inside the New York Public Library.                            As you walk through this single-room gallery, these are some of the memorable artifacts that are currently on display: Declaration of Independence: This is a replica of the official document written by the American Colonists declaring their independence from King George III. Winnie-The-Pooh and Friends: Five stuffed dolls are the inspiration to the cartoon series Winnie-The-Pooh. All five dolls look identical to their cartoon counterpart. This is one of the most popular exhibits and it will attract a large crowd.  Brooklyn Dodgers Autographed Baseball: An official baseball was signed by the 1948 Brooklyn Dodgers team including the legendary Jackie Robinson. The First Folio: This 900-page compilation is the first collected edition of 36 plays written by William Shakespeare. West Side Story Cue Book: Production Stage Manager Ruth Mitchell used this book to signal every lighting change, sound effect, and movement during this modernized version of Romeo and Juliet.   Charles Dickens: There is display of Charles Dickens work area which includes his chair, desk, and stationary.   The New York Public Library will rotate the exhibits that are currently on display. Came back to see this beautiful library again on this day trip to NYC…read more Security was still much tighter than other libraries I've visited with special security screening equipment at the entrance and then an open bag check when I left. I still have not timed my visits correctly so couldn't join the scheduled library tours or take advantage of the public visiting hours for the must see Rose Main Reading Room. As a result I just focused on the following areas 1. The beautiful rotunda at the top with ceiling and wall murals and the deep brown wooden panels. A special 250th anniversary exhibition, Art As Declaration, was being prepared and some of the initial themes and displays were presented in the wings to each side of the rotunda. 2. The Polonsky Exhibition room with the "treasures" from the NYPL collection was fabulous as always. I loved that they rotated from their archives regularly so there's always something new each time I've visited. The Winnie the Pooh and friend display seemed to be a permanent fixture and one of the popular stops. 3. Marble main entrance and lion statue duo outside in front. Good stop to get out of the heat and humidity for a bit. Bathrooms clean and water refill stations a plus.
