I'm lucky to have such great neighborhood library at the epicenter of action on the busy Kings Highway. The facilities are always clean and well maintained. The staff are helpful and I've yet to encounter a rude staffer, which isn't uncommon at many other BPL branches. The passport center operates downstairs, in the basement level. Very convenient. Hours are mostly during the day, during work days, but a few morning Sunday hours are available for those who work standard work weeks. A wide array of activities are happening on daily at this location. Notifications and announcements are posted on the doors upon entrance. Very convenient for the community. Check the website to learn more, as some great finds might become available on a rolling basis. For example, Shakespeare in the Park was distributing tickets to free performances in the summer 2019. read more

This location branch is very quiet. I feel like we hear pin needle drop drop. The space is very clean but there's not as much seating areas that I thought they would be since Liz is pretty big I thought there would be more seating tables and chairs. However, I was able to find a spot to sit, the outlets are usually unlock during business hours so it won't be a hassle to have access to it. I love the fact that it is close to me if I wanted to walk it, possibly it would just be a pretty long walk. I think should be in most neighborhoods. I just have two things that's really inconvenient in my case. If I have to use the space to work on my clients, it's not the most comfortable if I wanted to come here for recreation use, I will go to the main branch for that. Also, the hours are limited I would like to be there earlier before 11 o'clock , but it doesn't open until 10 AM. Also, you can't bring any food or drinks in there I just have food but no drinks at all. If I'm working past more than an hour I'm gonna need some coffee to keep me up or some water I think I can come here. I just need to pick up a book order I made or if I'm gonna be here less than three hours or even less than two hours. read more

Oove going to this library. They are always so clean And quiet. The staff is friendly enough to help out whenever you need them though sometimes its a gamble on which staff member you speak with. They have really good hours for going which makes it easy to stop by whenever you want to. The machines make it easy to check out books and they have some very fun workshops for kids. read more

It's not the fanciest or most polished library around but it'll do. + Bookshelves are clearly marked and organized. + Several banks of computers for use. + Three staffers seated at customer service (hopefully this is a regular thing). + Self return and self checkout. + Easy access from either the train or bus. - Could use an update. - Dingy tile flooring. - Limited air conditioning? It was so warm in there... read more

I live within a stone's throw of this library but, this was my first time visiting. I wanted to read a book but, it was sold out at the indie bookstore near my job. I was able to apply for a library card and put a hold but, honestly, the request felt so daunting. It took them over 25 minutes to fill out an application (the NY Public library took only 5 minutes). The librarian had to keep re-entering my information. A few times people came up and requested help and they were met with a "short and curt" attitude. However, I was able to brush them off because I was surrounded by my true love --- books! I must say, this library does cater to local taste as there was a huge section for books in different languages. read more

My neighborhood library! It's nothing fancy but it homes all the books I want to borrow. In the beginning when it was newly renovated, things were great. However, as more time passes, it's deteriorating - and if you're close to the bathrooms, there's usually some strange smells (unless it's early). They also offer passport services which is great but when you're trying to study while babies are wailing, kids are running around and teenagers are goofing off, it makes for a hard to focus environment. However if you have good headphones and can normally block out the noises, it's a great place to study. It was my go to when my house got too distracting. This is still one of my favorite places to go to. And now they have designated study hours so I might go do my CE's downstairs where there's no phone signal so I can focus better! As for help from the librarians, it's a hit or miss. Sometimes it's slow while others are much quicker and willing to answer your questions. read more

Just an ok library. I was looking for a place to study and figured why not go to the library! DUH! Had to stay downstairs because I needed a table with an outlet for my laptop. It was fine at first until the immigration office down there was open and then it wasn't. Mostly noisy with kids crying and bells ringing. If you sit upstairs there's limited study spaces with a plug available for your devices. Staff are nice and pleasant. There's free WiFi that works fine. It's clean. Bathrooms are clean to. It's a nice temperature in there cos I find most libraries are warm!!! There really isn't much of a place to sit outside the library and eat, like when you decide to take a break type of situation. read more

The Staff is super friendly and they remember the Children's names on the second floor they have nice books too it's very awesome

The passport office worked great for me but let me give you some points. Fill out the passport application ONLINE, print it out and bring it with you. READ THE DIRECTIONS before you go, so that you have everything you need with you. Have a checkbook or money order, because they don't accept cash or cards for passport fee, only cash or cards for photo and library fee. Let them take the photo because they are very picky. My experience went very smooth and I was out in 30 minutes. The only reason I did not give 5* is the workers. I was overly nice and was met with stern conversation and instructions. (Soupy Nazi-esque). I can tell that if you don't have everything you need, things can go to a 1*. Be prepared and nice and do as you're told and you'll get a passport quickly. read more

This is my sorta-neighborhood library, so it's kind of a necessary evil. I've been coming here for years. It's not great. The librarians, for the most part, are pretty unhelpful. They have a lot of attitude, like they hate their jobs and their lives. I literally just called one of them recently and she basically hung up on me because I dared to ask her to look up to see if my book was in. There is one librarian who is very nice, but I rarely see her. There is also a technical assistant who is lovely, literally among the nicest people I've ever met. A few weeks ago, I had to special request something and the woman practically bit my head off. They are really nasty here. The clientele is a lot of older people, Russians, and folks of the insane/homeless variety (talking to themselves, etc.). At times, it feels like hanging around Penn Station or Bellevue. This is a library that tends to get its share of crazy regulars. Hang around here often enough and you may well become one of them. One nice thing is I think you can get up to 2 hours of library time here, between the 2 sessions on the computers, and the hour long session on the laptops. (You need to special request those). The guard also has an annoying habit of yelling that the library is closing at least a half-hour before that happens. Yes, we know. We all saw the sign when we came in. The bathrooms are frequently nauseating. The book selection seems to be a lot of religious (Jewish) stuff (I'm a Jew myself, so no disrespect intended) and Russian language stuff. Their LGBT/sexuality section is so small as to be laughable. There is a seperate floor for a children's section and one downstairs for magazines, an art gallery and general hanging out. The location of the library is across from the b82 and within a short walking distance from Kings Highway Q. I wish I could say I had a better recommendation for a library in Brooklyn to go to but I don't. My father tells me Gerritsen is nice, but I've never been. This library though, Kings Highway, really needs to revamp itself, starting with politeness to customers. read more

I fortunately live about 5mns away from it so this small but busy library does what I need it to do - print out documents and occasionally rent out DVDs when my internet is down. There library is kept very clean and is quiet (like it's supposed to be). There's been never more than a 20mn wait for a computer for me and I easily waste my time by browsing through the constantly updated DVD collection. I rarely deal with the staff but on the occasions that I have, it's always been courteous and friendly. I heart libraries! read more

Great Library! Brand new (last summer?) TONS of books, lots of ppl to help you, fast state-of-the-art-check out system, plus they have a huge Russian section (for those who care) and I assume this means other languages too. Not that this idea will blow anyone way but... Last summer I took out a few travel book about Paris, & France, took them over seas o.O and returned them back to the library without paying a dime ! Not only do you save money, but you also can test out all the different travel guides there is before making a commitment($$) to one! And yes this Library has computers too. And is very very well air-conditioned in the summer ! Plus not only is their check-out fast, but so is their drop-off. You could even return the books without going inside and when the library is closed (drop off boxes outside) All in all I agree with the reviewer below me, this library is awesome !! read more

This place holds a special place in my heart. Just as every other library out there should if you grew up going to it. (I guess this doesn't apply to you youngins who don't know what a printed book feels like) It has changed quite a bit over the years. Way back in the day the lower level was a reference area. Yuh know, with really big ugly and intimidating books. Now it's a "quiet" area, which is probably one of the few reasons as to why I still come here. I say "quiet" because it is also a passport processing facility. That means your space of meditation may be interrupted by immigrants that bring their noisy offspring. The key word here is interrupted as not everyone will have such a loud breathing object with them. I'm aware that a library isn't something that people who use yelp go to, but what makes this library above average? It's the fact that it has yet to be a hotspot for bums. I've stepped into just a handful in the past couple of years and I must say it's sad of who the average visitor is. Don't get me wrong there are still a couple of smelly people coming here to rest their bodies but it's not the majority. The upstairs area is still very kid friendly, and the first floor will often contain normal education seeking individuals. All in all, this branch is still looking good. It has a quiet area downstairs, a passport facility for those of you who need it, no infestation of bums, and a nice public service of classes and programs for all random things. read more

The reading room downstairs used to be one of the best places for nearly-silent reading or study in Brooklyn, besides the large rooms in the Central Library. But today, my first time at the library in about 3 years, was a disaster. The Passport Office is in an adjacent room. People coming for passport business now use the quiet reading room as a waiting room and have almost no respect for the need for quiet there. And I don't really blame them - they didn't ask to have that office placed in the middle of a library. I blame the library for placing the office in a spot that essentially eliminates quiet study from being available at this branch. I hope they move the passport office to another part of the building so that the reading room can become useful again. read more

Unfortunately, I blend in with the teenagers here, so the staff feel the need to be rude and disrespectful to me. Here are a few scenarios: 1) I'm sitting at a table minding my own business, doing college work. I'm also charging my phone. The lady at a computer across from me snaps at me and tells me I can't charge my phone here. The charging stations are only for laptops. I ask her where I can charge my phone. Her response: "Not here." I'm not about to waste my breath on her, so I move away from her and charge my phone on a different side of the floor. I would like to see where it says that phone charging is not allowed in this library. It actually is, considering how many people charge their phones down in the basement. This brings me to my next scenario. 2) A few months later, I'm sitting on the other side, charging my phone and catching up on some reading. A man with a mustache comes up: "You're not supposed to charge your phone here." "Where can I charge it then?" He sends me back to the side where the woman told me I can't charge my phone! He then proceeds to ask me who I'm here with. I tell him I'm with my elementary school brother, who is playing on the computer. His response: "You're supposed to sit close to him and watch him." I'm already on the same floor with him, and he knows what table I'm sitting at. He's not a baby. Then, that man asks how old I am. I refuse to answer that question. I'm a grown woman, and my age is certainly none of his business. 3) Their new drop off system is just awful. You have to scan the books. Some of them did not scan, so I asked a staff member why they did not scan. "You're not doing it right," snapped the female staff member. Uhm I'm pretty sure if some of the books did go through, I WAS doing it right. So when the scanners don't want to work, somehow it's my fault that some books go through and some don't. I preferred the old system, where I would just drop off the books into the box without making contact with the impolite staff. Instead of taking out your nasty attitude on innocent people, how about you do something about the loud school kids? Because the last time I checked, this is supposed to be a LIBRARY, not a zoo. The only reason I come here is because my little brother wants to play on the computer with his friends after school and take out some books. But if you actually have a choice, go to the Central Library, where silence is strictly enforced and the staff are nice and polite. read more

If your looking for a quiet clean warm library this is your spot. Just get here before all of the yeshivas let out. During work hours this is the most quiet calm place to go. Avoid during after hours it turns into a zoo. Great help here too wonderful library read more

I feel I need to defend this library, because the other reviewer was so harsh. This library is fantastic, a lot of new titles and a big space dedicated to the retrieval of your holds if they don't have what you need. The library is open until 8pm 3 days a week, has 2 huge book drops in case you need to return something after hours and is open on Sundays (even with all the cuts in library funding)! The bathrooms are clean and well maintained and there are a ton of computers you can use without having to wait too long. Every time I've gone to this library there is a really cool library cop who actually enforces the rules, so if this homeless person was suspected of doing anything more scandalous than smelling bad he should have been notified. read more

Awesome library/cooling center! Really close to home and they have everything you need from a library

My review is for the "Children's" section of the library. The children's librarians are very nice and helpful. They go above and beyond helping a child/ parent with what they need. The same ones have been here for years. They seem to care that your child finds something that makes them want to read. On more than one occasion they have helped my daughter find new reading material on a rare subject. They offer arts & crafts, reading groups, shows, etc.. During the summer they have something going on at least two days a week. read more

This has to be the LOUDEST library I've ever been to. The main offenders are staff members. Passport Center: The office works well, but be careful. Despite the fact that I double checked with the clerk that 'expedited service' was to be provided, the clerk still marked application incorrectly, leaving off 'expedited' and adding for 'card' that i did not need or request. Because of her mistakes, I over-paid, and the processing time was delayed. This gave much of a headache: tracking, calling, explaining, and paying the fees. Nothing but sheer incompetence from this clerk! read more

This is for the passport service, i had to come here more then on one occasion , so i have an idea of how these people are towards others. I must say the people who check the documents and the fees at their little cubicles are the most disrespectful beings , completely unncessarily rude towards the people they see .their demeanor is that of someone who hates their job and their life ! They do not know how to speak to, nor treat someone like a human being . They rush you, they do not give you a chance to speak or finish filling out an application which you have already started in front of them. Its absurd how terrible the so called service is . Eveytime i go there they ruin my day. If i ever worked in that unprofessional manner i would get fired on the spot. I hope their managers sees this and hires competant decent people. Everyone's job can be difficult but there is no reason to treat an individual like a nobody and give them hell. read more

The "quiet reading room" in the basement is anything but quiet. Between the noise from the passport office and the rude people who believe the library is their living room, this place is a real disgrace. To make things worse, the library staff stroll right through chatting loudly, as if they're the only ones in the room. This place has a long way to go to bring it up to par with a real "library". read more
