I got brought a brewery tour as a gift, and had a great time here. I have done a lot of brewery…read moretours in America but this was my first in the U.K. We did a weekday tour starting 7pm. The place is in a bit of a random spot, I wasn't too keen on our walk there but we made it. We ordered a pint as we were early, their speciality Cake boy, a hazelnut beer I wasn't too keen on it and wished I haven't ordered a whole pint. Plus it was expensive £13 for two pints! It should be cheaper directly from the brewery. Also i definitely wouldn't have ordered a whole pint if I had known I was going to have to chug the thing as we weren't allowed to take drinks on the tour with us! This is very different from US brewery tours and they usually welcome drinking on the tours. However I understand why, as the tour starts out in their private tap room, where you drink and taste all their different beers on tap. I think we tried around 5-6 beers, we even got to still taste their stout even though they had ran out of it on draft. They actually opened bottles of it, to pour for us -- I was impressed and their stout was nice, it's different from others stouts as I'm not a stout drinker. The pours were a third of a pint each too. The tour in whole was 2 hours but didn't actually last that long. The tasting lasted around an hour -- this is something I haven't experienced at US breweries, where the staff go into soo much detail about each beer and taste them with you. Usually a brewery tour is only 20-30 minutes touring the facility. This tour was more like bourbon tours I have been on. The actual tap room we were in was full of Michael Jackson's (the beer critic) glass collection -- cool or what? After the tasting we finally toured the facility, which lasted around 20 minutes or so. The tasting was better than the tour, I could have skipped the tour, their was nothing special. As traditional with British health and safety laws, we were required to wear safety goggles on the tour, even though it was the evening and nothing was happening. One thing that did disappoint me, was you weren't able to keep a tasting glass after the tour, you had to buy one from the gift shop. Also as I'm not up to date on British craft beer, I was surprised to learn that Meantime sold out to SAB Miller a few years ago and then was later sold to a Japanese company. However though we enjoyed the tour overall (I think it was all the beer -- lol). We stayed after the tour finished, had another pint and actually ended up chatting to our tour guide for the evening. We had a great time.

I count myself very lucky that I don't live anywhere near this brewery, otherwise my friends and…read morefamily would probably never see me again. Housed in some very old farm buildings, this working brewery produces some jolly fine ales such as T.E.A. (Traditional English Ale) and Fresh Spring. There are 11 different varieties produced here. They regularly do tours of their operations which take less than two hours. With all the samples you'll likely have, best arrange transport home! The brewery shop upstairs is literally packed to the oaken rafters with hundreds of bottled beers, not only from Hogs Back but also a large range of other breweries from far and wide. I might have done a short 'happy dance' when I first saw it all. You can also buy a range of other Hogs Back products such as beer gift sets and memorabilia such as glassware and clothing. Tip: the brewery tour days/times can be flexible to suit individual group requirements. It costs £12.50 per person. Tip: there is free home delivery for all online orders over £40.

They talk more politics (think UKIP) than hops. And some of the banter can get a little tiresome and grating. But they do it with a laugh and show you more of the inner workings of a brewery than you'd expect.

To my Yelp friend Dean C - Found this great UK brewery. Sorry, but it is kinda far away from the…read moredowntown tourist London area. But it is worth it since it is a "brewery mall." Quality/Quantity - Small simple menu done very well. Including the beer, good beer! My self made flight was good. I was worried that I ordered too many... All my beers were good. Can I suggest adding flights to your menu? Guest beers are also offered, see picture. Kegged wines, wines on tap. Pizza was great, sorry if I offended the "chef" by asking for parmesan cheese. I guess extra parmesan cheese is an Italian thing, not a UK thing...? We ordered the sweet potato, stilton & walnut pizza. Gluten free and vegan options are also available. Atmosphere - Amazing space, huge, indoor/outdoor, two stories, etc. Also outdoor on the river. Lounge area, picnic tables, "pallet" benches, barrel tables, etc. Semi open kitchen, see picture. Good people watching space. You can walk to the other breweries if you want to try more. Plenty of clean bathrooms on both floors. Also thanks for the outside/separate sinks in the upstairs restrooms. Dog friendly. Monthly events. DJ's on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Service - Menus and prices clear and plentiful. Hit and miss, but that's okay because I am drinking good beer and fairly easy going. Cool inclusive culture, see picture. Reservations available for groups of 4 or more. Price - 24 pounds + tip. Owner Comment - FYI, your website link on Yelp does not work for me...? But I can find it via Google.

I settled on the Kashmiri dal and whilst I was skeptical the bartender assured me it was delicious. And she was spot on although deeming it pizza is a misnomer: it's more of a crispy flatbread. Anyway the flavours were delicious!!! I was really skeptical of how the dal, banana slices and chili flakes would all go together but it was spicy, fragrant and tough to not eat all in one go (got it for takeaway). Really cool space on the canal as well with lots of seating indoors and a bit more limited outdoors. Almost right across from the overground. Plus dog-friendly!!
