Absolutely amazing views from the Broadway Tower in Worcestershire, England.
Broadway Tower has stood for over 200 years and has a long interesting history; including being one of the highest point in the Cotswolds, a lookout tower in WW2 and a Cold War nuclear bunker at one point. A memorial to the crew of the A.W.38 Whitley, a bomber that crashed only feet from the tower in 1943, is also present at the site.
These days Broadway Tower is now Broadway Tower Par, a full tourist attraction complete with a museum, gift shop and restaurant.
The views from the actual tower are stunning, at least 10 British counties are visible from the top of the tower as it sits 1024 feet above sea level. The rest of the Broadway Tower Park area is very serene and calming despite the presence of tourists. Visiting in July, the lavender was in full bloom all around the area. The actual grounds are complete with picnic tables and grassy areas to relax and enjoy the peacefulness.
The restaurant has some great English food options including a delicious "Ploughmans", other hot foods, ice creams, cakes, hot drinks and alcohol. They even had some nice beers from a local Cotswold Brewery. The gift shop is full of mementos with a large part related to lavender; with lavender soaps, lavender chocolate and other various lavender inspired items.
The museum located within the tower is full of historical pieces and tells many stories through photos and videos. Be aware there are no lifts (elevators) so one must climb some very narrow windy stairs but it's not as daunting as it looks. Only a few steps desperate each level where one can take a break if needed. Once to the top, you're treated to some breathtaking views well worth the climb.
Without a doubt a great, historical place to visit if in the Worcestershire area of England. read more
