I totally agree with Greg S. We are in a similar situation. The people at The Cherish have held…read moreback money from our deposit claiming that we were to pay for damages done to the apartment. We did no such damages, as a matter of fact, we have pictures showing otherwise and they still won't budge. We were told that the apartment would be completely painted before we moved in, which it was not, as a matter of fact, we showed them, upon our moving out, that the walls still had the drywall dust from 8 months earlier. They also charged us for 3 hours of cleaning fees, after we spent more than a day cleaning before leaving. There was no way in this world it would have taken an additional 3 hours to clean this tiny apartment, plus the so called mandatory "Sanitation" fee of $250! My suggestion to anyone looking for a place to rent for their senior parents, etc. Look somewhere else first or if you have to rent there, make sure you take a ton of photos before you move anything in and MAKE SURE THE WALK THROUGH, both before and after is well documented! And make sure you have more than 1 person with you while you are inspecting it. I have sent emails several times and they will not even answer them. What they tell you before you sign the contract is not the same as what you get...goes to proof somethings are just too good to believe. Be very careful with this place. A big disappointment in "trust". PS there are a lot of complaints about the meals.

A retirement community for people aged 50+. Homes are privately owned and do not follow a "cookie…read morecutter" style, when compared to similar communities, such as Craig Bay Estates in Parksville. There are many common amenities, including a semi-private golf course, clubhouse, tennis courts, pool, wood shop, and craft room with kiln. The community is gated and security needs to be notified of guest arrivals and departures. Only 2 people and one dog/cat are allowed per home, but guests may stay for up to 30 days. Many homes have lovely views of Salt Spring Island, or of the golf course. Unfortunately, the private docks and marina were damaged in a storm and have been removed. There is a boat and RV storage yard and boats can be launched nearby at the Cowichan Bay Marina. There are over 40 clubs and groups to join, including Wine Club, Hiking Club, Bridge Club, and Bible Babes. It is a very WASPy community with very few members of ethnic minorities. Potential buyers should be aware that they will need to adhere to strict community standards for landscaping, maintenance, and quiet hours, or face being reported to the strata council. Also, permission must be obtained before making major changes to private properties (e.g. installing gates or jacuzzis. All things said, if you're content to live by the rules, it's a very nice place to retire.

As it is a private community, you can travel within it on golf carts, and head down to it's private marina, or RV/boat storage yard, or right up to the first tee or tennis courts without even getting in your car! The owners are friendly, there is a big social community here, and it is simply the best place in Canada to live or retire, especially as the climate is the best in the country. I have loved my time here so far, and feel I have found the best place in the country to live.
