Having never needing to be the one to directly handle a life changing event like the passing of our…read morefather, Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel made us "feel like family" and walked us through the steps while allowing time as needed when it became very difficult to handle both the passing and handling of the funeral. Mr. Michael Farrow explained every step of the process, service selection, and even gave us options for the Mercy Meal after the service. If was if if he knew my father and the care and respect showed was greatly appreciated. Michael also helped us schedule the services as to not impact the family due to other services scheduled around the same time. Our father looked amazing and at peace, they did an amazing job--everyone was impressed. We were never rushed. We were able to make changes during the process as well with no issues or questions. Mercadante's also has kept in touch after the services were completed, this was not expected; yet welcomed as it has been helping us during the healing process. They also handled all the paperwork for his certificate of death, social security, etc. Everyone was professional, caring, and understanding--as I stated, they treated us like "family" from start to finish. They said my husband was meaty so there would be plenty of ashes!!!they had empty tissues boxes the day of his wake, the screwed up his death certificate in 2 spots, they put his ashes in the incorrect scatter urns, they removed cards from flower arrangements as we went to take them home. They called me someone else name when they called me to make funeral arrangements and said they were scattered from several funerals. Wow. Really WOW. I'm was scattered from losing the love of my life unexpected from a heart attack. And I'm supposed to be focused and double check their work. Incompetent I how no one ever has to go thru what I went thru with them. And they never apologized for their mistakes and shortcomings. Hard to believe they would treat us like they did in the worst days of my our lives. .

Jeff is not only an amazing funeral director, he is a kind, compassionate, thoughtful, wonderful human being. Even though we'd arranged for pre-planned services many years ago, Jeff treated us as if we were writing a check today! My father-in-law passed away at 6:00 in the morning in a nursing home. I received a call from Jeff at 7:30am telling me he's picked up dad, and he was safe in the funeral home. He arranged for a time that was convenient for us to come in much later that day to make Dad's final arrangements. I swear he works about 20 hours a day! While dad had done the original planning years ago, Jeff still helped us put together a service which was perfect for our family, and did everything we asked to honor the great man our father was. All the details were handled beautifully, and we didn't need to worry about a thing. Dad was very ill at the end of his life and had lost a significant amount of weight, so we were worried about how he would look for the calling hours. No worry needed. Jeff prepared our dad for burial expertly, and made him look like he was younger and healthier again. In fact, it was so comforting for us to say it looked like he was just taking a nap. Dad was a veteran, so Jeff arranged for a service with full military honors, which was so important to Dad, and meant so much to us. I cannot more highly recommend Jeff and Hays Funeral Home. The genuine care and concern he showed for all of us and his expertise in his craft created a beautiful memory for us rather than just a sad day of loss. The month of October began in the most heartbreaking way imaginable. On October 1st, I lost my…read morebeautiful 10-year-old Maltese, Princess. Waking up and finding her gone is a moment I will never forget, the image is etched into my soul forever. She wasn't "just a dog." She was my heart, my joy, my reason to smile. For years I had the privilege of loving her, caring for her, and being loved by her in return. Losing her shattered me. After her passing, I called her veterinarian, who told me they worked with Forget Me Not. But what followed made an already painful time even harder. The vet's office misinformed me about pickup dates and times, first telling me Princess would be picked up that Wednesday afternoon, and then later telling me she hadn't been. The next day, they told me she would be picked up after noon, but when I called back, they said she still hadn't been taken. I was devastated. The thought of my baby lying in a freezer... alone, cold, and away from me... tore me apart. This was now the second night she was gone from my side, and the grief was suffocating. In my desperation, I called Forget Me Not and spoke with Cathy. From the moment she answered, I felt her warmth, empathy, and genuine care. She spoke to me softly and kindly, and she listened... really listened... to my pain. That's when I learned the truth: their regular pickup days were Tuesdays and Fridays. My heart sank, and I called the vet again, upset and frustrated with the misinformation I had been given. Behind the scenes Cathy did something I will never forget. Out of pure compassion, she arranged for an unscheduled pickup just for Princess. She instructed her driver to contact her once he arrived so she could personally call me and let me know my girl was in their care. And when that call came, when I heard the words, "She is now in our care", I burst into tears. That small act of kindness meant everything to me. It was as if Cathy had lifted a small piece of the heavy weight crushing my heart. In that moment, I knew that Forget Me Not wasn't just a business... they were people who truly understand what it means to lose a being you love. They treated my Princess with dignity and treated me with such tenderness and compassion. They helped make one of the most painful experiences of my life just a little more bearable. It's been 13 days since I lost her, and the grief is still raw. But when I think about how Cathy and the Forget Me Not team stepped in for me when I was drowning in pain, I feel a deep sense of gratitude. They reminded me that even in heartbreak, there is kindness. And I take comfort in knowing that I advocated for my daughter in her death just as fiercely as I did in her life. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to Cathy and the entire Forget Me Not team. You were a light in one of the darkest moments of my life, and I will never forget what you did for me and my sweet Princess. If you're reading this and have lost a beloved pet, I want you to know that Forget Me Not will care for them, and for you, with the compassion and respect you both deserve. Our pets are family. Princess was and always will be my family. And thanks to Forget Me Not, even in her passing, she was treated like the precious soul she is. I love you forever, Princess. Until we meet again.
