Wow. Just wow. This is such a heartwarming initiative and I'm going to continue supporting it…read more I can't quite remember, how I stumbled upon their website, but as soon as I read about their work, I put a date in my calendar to check them out. Basically what it is: they rescue surplus food from businesses in the area and distribute it among the community for a super-discounted price: £4.50 for a shopping cart that was filled to the brim. Granted, you don't have much choice and some of the food isn't at its peak anymore, but I have a brain and I can sort out (or cut out) what's not so nice anymore. Integral to their operation are the volunteers who are your shopping companions: they go through the aisles with you and point out what you can take and how much. It sounds a bit prescriptive at first, but I understand that otherwise some folks would go bonkers and grab everything! Thank you for doing this!

This is a really great branch of the Oxfam charity shops chain if you (like me) buy a lot of books…read more It's also great for cards, wrapping paper and other new items that Oxfam sells (eg jewellery, candles etc) The shop is always kept very clean and tidy - which makes a nice change as some charity shops are really messy and make you feel a bit grubby. The books are displayed and laid out well and there's room to have a good browse before buying. There are often Buy One Get One Free offers or other reductions which make what you buy even more of a bargain. The staff are nice and do thank you for any donations of goods you bring in - again not always the case for charity shops as some places have really rude staff!

However, I don't know if I caught someone in a bad mood or 5 minutes before closing, but when I went to drop off clothing to the good cause, I was greeted with a scowl, a door slam and not even a thank you. Absolutely terrible, it also made me want to take back what I had given away and give it to another charity like the Cancer Research UK up the street. I should have if had I not been in shock from the rudest encounter I have ever experienced in the least likely place, a charity shop.
