I am not a beach person. I mean sure, I'm agreeable to frolick around in a bikini, sunglasses and a wide brim hat, but I'm not going into the water! I know the e. coli counts are monitored and the beach is closed when levels are too high, but still, no thanks, lol. So take my review for what it's worth knowing that ;)
The beach itself is ok in terms of aesthetics, but what I really like is the park that is attached to the beach. This listing is just called "Britannia Beach" but the official name of this place is "Britannia Beach and Park." The park is lovely. It's a good size and has a lot of green space. It also has so many picnic tables. I'm all about the picnic tables. I like picnics but not on a blanket on the grass, haha. It even has an area with picnic tables under a large gazebo, which is great for when it's raining but also provides shade when it's stinkin' hot! And if you don't like grass, there are picnic tables on concrete too! Listen, bugs like greenery, so if you prefer to dine with less bugs (like I do) you can grab one of those tables ;)
The Ron Kolbus Community Centre is on site, so when its open you can use the washrooms there. I think there are washrooms elsewhere too, but I've never used them.
There are 2 parking lots which are a good size, but parking can be harder to find on the weekends if the weather is nice. Parking is free. There is a smaller parking lot south of the beach/park off of Greenfield for the baseball diamond and there's some nearby street parking available too.
I'm a fan of Britannia Park. I'm not a fan of beaches in general (well, not for swimming at least. I love beaches to take sunset pictures, but I realize that's not the traditional use for beaches) but Britannia Beach is an option if you like beaches and want to stay in the city. read more
