Myself, my partner and my mum went to the balloon festival on Sat 9th Aug 2014 as we have never been before and reviews on the TV sold it for us. We booked our parking in advance for the Premier Parking for a small fee of £10.00 so we didnt have far to walk! In this price was a 'free' programme, didn't see any programmes being given out at all so needless to say we didn't know what was going on throughout the day!
We had to go to Gate 4 for the Premier Parking, well, whoever designed the signs for the car parks should be shot as we saw 1 sign directing us to Gate 4 then no more so we had to go round the one way system a couple of times before we finally found where we should have been! Not good.
There were more fairground rides than anything else, usually when you go to events like this you can get away from the fairground noise, but not this time (unless you arrived at 5.30-6.00am) so you could get a good spot right at the flight line!
The tannoy announcements were a mumbled mess, again unless you were right at the flight line you had no chance of hearing anything, suggestion: Erect more tannoys around the field so people who arn't lucky enough to grab a spot closer can actually hear!
There were not enough toilets to accommodate the amount of people there.... We decided on our spot to sit throughout the day and this was behind one of the lorries generating the power for one of the blow up bouncy castle attractions (bearing in mind the field was packed so only a limited amount of space) the 'pikey' who's lorry it was decided that he needed to use the loo so instead of queuing for the toilet like the rest of us, he opened his drivers door and proceeded to urinate 3 feet away from where we were sitting, now I thought it was illegal to do this in a public space and you can't get more public than that!! Disgusting.
Ok, no one can control the weather but it was awful so not alot happened, a few parachute jumpers maybe and a couple of ballons were inflated but that was it, and as mentioned previously, couldn't hear what was happening over the tannoy.
Groups of youths walking around with bottles of Vodka etc, all getting abit irritated and loud, ready to punch the first person who got in their way. Suggestion: Search people coming in and confiscate alcohol.
As its a free event can't really expect more but be a warning to people attending in the future.....We certainly won't be coming again. read more
