Jessica not only did a great job with my hair, but was super lovely, chatted the perfect amount, made a great coffee and made sure I was comfortable and happy throughout my time there. Today I bit the bullet and in need of some humanising to my brows, logged on to their website and booked an appointment. This was at 10am. My appointment was booked for 2pm. Winning! Arriving a little early, I filled in my new client paperwork as is standard when going to a salon for the first time and soon after Chantelle invited me into the treatment room. I explained that I'd been "growing my brows out" as the last time they were waxed they'd ended up far too thin for my liking. She instantly could tell me how it had happened and explained she was only going to take "a tad from here and here - that's all you need." Within 10 minutes my brows were once again human and she upsold me so easily to a brow tint. Chantelle even applied a cooling cold cotton pad in between each wax strip. It wasn't hard - my fair coloured brows look much better a little darker but I've always ended up looking like Freida Kahlo. There was no pressure but she assured me they'd be so light. She was right. My brow tinting experience with Chantelle was the first time I've had my brows tinted and genuinely liked the result. They do an assortment of skincare treatments as well and all can be booked online. Oh, and you get 30% off on your first 2 treatments and 10% off if you rebook your next appointment then and there. Unassuming local beauty salon you've won me over!

Of course there's always that other shop, open 24/7 a.k.a the World Wide Web but you'll be pleased and/or surprised to note Mecca have recently dropped their prices quite heftily to fall in line with US prices. And they've always been generous with samples. As a dame with sensitive and often reactive skin, the ability to really test a product, be it makeup or skin care, before I buy is appreciated. Pair this with customer service from the staff that 9 times out if 10 goes above and beyond and it's a bricks and mortar store I'm more than happy to give my Monopoly money (read: paycheck) to. As Fleur pointed out the staff don't pounce straight away. They will ask but I've always found them to be respectful of my space once I say I'm just looking. Similarly, if you do need a hand they'll be ready! If you are to visit either of the Mecca's in the Mall, this is my pick. There's just a little more range than the Queens Plaza store.

I was helped by a lady named Mindy and at first, the tutorial was quite good and engaging. But later on, when I was struggling with my eyeliner, she snatched the brush out of my hand and started mocking me, proceeding to tell me that I was doing it wrong in a very frustrated and annoyed tone. I thought the point of the tutorial was to learn more about makeup and get a better feel for some of the products I don't have much experience with. I spent the rest of the time feeling embarrassed and stupid, especially after continuing her rude behaviour. It made me want to leave and ruined an experience I received as a gift and was relatively excited about. I was disappointed because friends who had done tutorials at other Mecca stores had been telling me how great tutorials were but that was really undermined by my experience.

I arrived with an amazing sparkling mineral water and chocolates on a stainless steel platter. straight away i felt so welcome. The consultation that than took place was one of the most extensive consults i have ever experienced. Terri offered the most professional service and more than delivered on what was extreme colour correction. My experience in most salons i find i am the person that makes suggestions where Terri already had three selections in place for a complete new style . I feel blessed to have found someone so skilled at what they do, as we all know how hard it can be to find a really great hairdresser. I am about to have my eighth visit with Terri and she has been nothing short of professional, accommodating and flexible in all she provides. I love my morning coffee and treats being delivered on a silver platter on my arrival and the continued pampering throughout the appointment certainly makes you feel like a star. Most importantly my cut and colour have remained consistent after each appointment and I am still getting wonderful comments everywhere I go.
