Let my start by explaining that I am a perfectionist and the type of bride who loves spreadsheets and lists. Before I even met with any vendors, I had created charts of their services, pricing, and online reviews. So, when I sat down for my initial interviews with them, I wanted to be WOW'd. Akeshi and her talented team definitely have that WOW! factor. Lists and spreadsheets are good and fine, but it's the people who make our dreams come true... and the team at Kesh Events is simply amazing. I discovered Kesh Events at a bridal expo in downtown Chicago. Their exhibit really took my breath away. When my fiance, Larry, and I met with them for our initial consultation, we were so impressed. Akeshi literally sketched out my vision while I explained it to her, and it was everything I'd ever imagined. Kesh Events has designed all the decor from the floral to the lighting and fabric, and it is absolutely fabulous. The team has helped with the vendor contracts, timeline and schedules, and they will be coordinating everything on the big day. They are making our vision come to life by focusing on the smallest of details and creatively accommodating our unique needs. Their level of dedication and positive relationships with Chicagoland vendors makes this level of service possible. Not only has Akeshi and her team met our expectations, but they continually exceed them. Akeshi is always reaching out to make sure I'm following the timeline (and budget!), to make sure there's nothing I need from her, and really just to catch up. However, I was disappointed with the way the day went. With 8 hours of access we planned for an hour of clean up at the end with all guests out. The owner had my guests cleaning up the venue starting at 7:30 even though we didn't need to be out until 10:30. I understand asking guests to clean plates but my photos from the end of the night didn't have any of the decor because it was put away before my wedding was over. Truthfully it made me feel rushed to end my wedding which was very disappointing. The bartending service we hired also complained about being rushed and having their services disrupted by the owner. Again, a gorgeous venue but maybe not the place if you want a traditional wedding reception.

On a website titled Smashing the Glass I found the most PERFECT and AMAZING Party Planner, Farrah Singh Kauffman of Simply Azure Events. To begin with, Farrah is very calm, kind-hearted, intelligent and very organized. When I first contact her in early winter, she listened to my story and then explained what was involved in a "Day-of" planner. I enjoyed speaking to many of the other planners but each one seemed to talk very fast, they were very excited - so full of enthusiasm. This exuberance was too much for my already busy mind; I was looking for someone who was very peaceful. Even Farrah's email response was calming. Farrah's contract/package was easy to understand, though she was to be a "Day-of" planner; she turned out to be so much more - she was my lifeline! I had already signed the venue Gallery 1028 and their dedicated caterer Calihan Catering, the florist Jori Foreman of Fab Flora, and Kpoene Kofi-Bruce of Mignonette Bridal, an heirloom wedding dress re-vamper (my daughter was going to wear the dress my mother wore in 1958, I wore in 1985 and later my sister would wear in 1990). Most of the vendors were in downtown Chicago. From December on, Farrah kept us on-track. She read each contract, even alerting us to any quirks. She suggested vendors we hadn't yet signed including David Florczak of Posh Production for lighting. My daughter found a photographer from Santa Fe, New Mexico, Elizabeth Wells, and my son-in-law, found the band Big Sadie, who played blue grass. My daughter selected Sweet Mandy B's for the cake and Do Rite donuts for the pre-wedding meal. Farrah explained that, in addition to overseeing the venue set-up, she would be in charge of every item needed for the wedding, this included old family photos, the place cards, decorations and other miscellaneous things. I live 5 hours from Chicago by car. During the planning, I often flew. With each visit I brought more of the pieces. At one point Farrah met us in the suburbs of Chicago to collect some items. Another time I drove in with a friend bringing boxes of items including a mirror, easel, candy, a decorative tree and baskets for the bathrooms. Farrah so graciously collected those items from my family. She went well beyond being a "Day of" planner! As the wedding got closer, Farrah had telephone conferences with the bride and groom she did a walk thru with the caterer and the couple, she contacted the wedding party to be sure everyone knew her and had her contact information and she contacted each vendor to remind and clarify them of their responsibilities. She was amazingly well organized. She even taught us a few things about weddings we didn't know. She also emailed and called each of us periodically to be sure things were going well. The night before the wedding she met us for a rehearsal in downtown Chicago. I might add that Farrah lives in the suburbs of Chicago. For many of the meetings, she drove to downtown Chicago - this is not an easy task, traffic, parking and there's always a festival or parade to clog the streets. Never once did Farrah fail to complete any promised task; she did so many helpful things I can't name them all. I might add that Farrah does everything with a beautiful smile! The day of the wedding we had torrential rain but this didn't stop Farrah and her crew (she had two assistants) from being on time. Due to the storm, my husband and I were delayed about 15 minutes. When we got to the venue for photos (we had the wedding dress and the groom's suit) the rooms were already set-up. She even had a steamer to steam the dress one more time and to steam some suit jackets that got wet in the rain! Everything I asked Farrah, was completed and completed perfectly. If I inquired if something was done, her response was always "done", "yes", "already thought of that, took care of it". She was so much more than amazing and she stayed that way through the entire wedding and as we did clean-up. Farrah was one step ahead of me. She did everything with grace, kindness, and calmness - nothing rattled her. I later found-out the doughnut delivery people couldn't get my Amex to work. Farrah took care to pay for them, she never bothered me, she just worked it out. I later paid her back - wow, she's amazing thoughtful too! I am sure if I looked back at every pre-wedding moment with Farrah and throughout the wedding, I could think of a million reasons she helped make the day so perfect for my daughter and our family. My now wife and I got engaged 3.5 months ago, and went all-in on planning our wedding for last weekend. With 3 months till d-day, we raced to find a wedding coordinator to ensure our speedy wedding would go off without a hitch. Thank goodness we came across some recommendations for Plan it Perfect. And thank goodness they had availability for our day. Rachel knew it was a bit of a quick and DIY wedding, but she jumped on the challenge - there to steer us in all our indecisions. I had most of the major planning done, but needed plenty of guidance with the details as the day drew near. She dealt with wedding party antics, awkward family dynamics, last minute decisions, and everything else we threw at her with grace. Her two assistants, Kim and Jess, stepped in to ensure the flow of the evening, while not making sure we didn't feel rushed or out of control. When I say that Rachel, Kim and Jess saved my wedding - it is no exaggeration. My wife and I's caterer, little did we know, was in sky high over its head. The ladies with Plan it Perfect didn't let us see them sweat, they kept themselves calm and at the helm... While they dealt with the caterer showing up an hour late, missing half their poorly trained staff, and completely unable to set a table or bar. Myself and my bride were none the wiser the entire time. It wasn't until service started that I saw how much of a shitshow the catering company really was. Yet, Rachel intervened and her team picked up the slack, jumping in to clear tables and coach waiters. It's because of them I was able to dance the night away, unbothered by the terribly late food and disaster of a bar, amongst other things too frustrating to mention. If you are thinking about whether or not you should hire a wedding coordinator, hire one. And if you're going to hire one, hire Rachel Hoffberger. She cares. Her team cares. And they're damn good at their job.

Thankfully my Mom helped with a lot but I would highly recommend that most couples (who both work full time) probably want to have a wedding planner. The Brix is helpful with their suggestion list (we used a lot of the vendors on the list) but I will admit it was more overwhelming than I originally thought it would be to manage everything. Also Binnys and their delivery service was a MUCH cheaper option than the Brixs preferred partner. Taking back the extra alcohol was not too much extra work especially considering it saved us almost a grand compared to prestige.

There were 13 of us in a class to paint a decorated tree in the beautiful outdoors. Our instructor was very good. She led us, step by step, to make the tree all better than we thought we could upon entry. There were plenty of breaks to get paint to dry, and that made the experience the full two hours. She was also willing to take photos of groups at the end. There are drinks and snacks available and near by bathrooms, so you can keep yourself busy during those breaks.
