Brightstar is by far the best thing my daughter has gotten involved in. She started classes over a year ago and now she is in every show for her age range and looks forward to it more than she has any other activity. The classes she gets are wonderful and builds confidence and assuredness as well as has built my girl a community of kids that understand her. I cannot recommend this place enough! Brynn works some miracles!

We recently treated our six year old granddaughter to her first live theater experience here for…read morethe performance of "Annie". We hoped that she would enjoy it, and indeed she did. It was so sweet to have her alternate at times from laying her head on Dear Hubby's shoulder and then mine. Sometimes she would sit up tall and lean forward at certain times in the show. After, she said, "I want to stay until the next one", thinking that the cast would be doing a second show right away the same day. She doesn't yet realize how much energy and effort goes into a performance like this, but I loved the positive reaction. The theater, while small scale and local, nonetheless does a great job of putting on entertainment which captivates their audiences. It's a blessing to have this venue close to home, away from the hassles and expense of going into L.A. Ticket prices are reasonable, parking is free, and the staff is friendly. The large cast managed to sing, dance, and act their way through a beloved classic musical on a smallish stage and made it work. Kudos to the visual technology that makes set decoration a new type of visual art. We're looking forward to seeing "Footloose" at the Arts Center soon.

Every lead was spot on. And the theater itself is a joy. Small enough that there isn't a bad seating the house (we were in the next to last row and had a great view of the stage). Will definitely keep my eye out for their revival stage performances for next season.

My wife entered an Instagram contest to win tickets to the Paw Patrol show for the kids. It was a…read morereally nice event. There's no free street parking nearby, so you'll most likely have to pay $16 to park in the lot there. You're not allowed to bring in food or drinks because they sell those items inside, and they also probably don't want you bringing in anything that isn't permitted. They had plenty of staff working the event, from security guards to ushers, helping people find their seats. As for the ambience, the place was well-decorated throughout the inside it was actually really nice. I would definitely recommend it if there's a show you want to see and it's being held at the Civic Arts Plaza. Don't hesitate to buy those tickets just be aware that you'll probably have to pay for parking.

Got absolutely scammed. Wife and kids attended the Little Mermaid "sing along live" on July 25. It…read morewas billed as someone in a costume will come out, engage the crowd, and there will be a sing along etc. The lady came in a costume, spoke to the audience for maybe 10 seconds, and then just played the movie! That's it. I basically paid $120 for my wife and kids to drive 1 hour to see the movie, when I could have played it at my house. My wife calls me, furious. So I call the box office...they told me as a 1 time courtesy, they will refund me in 7 business days. It's been almost a month. I received nothing. So I called them just now only to be told I won't be getting a refund. The rep even acknowledged there were a lot of angry people. I encourage everyone to do a chargeback on their cards if you attended. It was straight up theft. $120 to play the little Mermaid Movie. And then the box office lied to me about the refund. This is how they billed it " Make a splash with an unforgettable, family-friendly event where you become part of the story! Sing-Along Live! brings Disney's beloved classic The Little Mermaid to the big screen with on-screen lyrics, audience participation moments, and a wave of musical fun for all ages. This event will be hosted live by our costumed Mermaid Princess." When in reality they just played the movie. Shame on the production company, and shame on the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza for letting these people scam everyone.

The talent of the student performers is endless. They put on great shows and the staging and direction is world class. It's better than going to LA to equity houses and all for a low price. We do have one suggestion -- please consider audience etiquette before going. We recently attended and a family of one of the cast members were just in a word -- gross. You don't have to wear a tux but a t-shirt with Spuds McKenzie from 1985, mom? Also not cool you cut us in line going in. Dad, there is no photographs or video in the theatre during performances. You made it hard for us to see as you attempted to be Wes Anderson moving around your seat on a swivel. Finally, your son/nephew/cousin is, yeah. It's cool. You seemed to be unaware when you yelled, "Go for it!" as he kissed a female cast member on the stage. Just a little self awareness is what we're suggesting here. Glad you support his theatre aspirations! If you're the student who this is about, I'm really sorry. They sure love you and that's all we could want for you. (We'd also pay to see you on Broadway, too. You are quite talented!) but you and your cast mates deserved better. In fact, we all did.

I'm really aurprised that more members of the community don't come to these great shows. The sets and the acting are just incredible. And the price is so affordable. Last year our tickets were in the Founder's Circle area, and that part of the venue is amazing! It is pretty chill and if you want to sit outside of the venue seating area, there are options. Getting things from the concession stands are easy and hassle-free. The people that work at the Fred Kavli Theater are so nice and go above and beyond. Some are paid and some are volunteers. Last year I lost a piece of a ring and Kelly F. found it! I got to see her again this past week (July 2026) and thanked her again for going above and beyond. (I also sent emails to several folks at "toaks.org" email addresses to mention Kelly and two other great ushers for their help...I never heard back from anyone.) For parking, you might be able to find something on the street. Otherwise, it is about $16 cashless (credit/debit only) to park. There are a variety of show types that play at this venue. I really love the locations, the ease of getting in/out, and the seating options. I look forward to my next concert early in 2027!
