A representative (Barry, I think the name was) came to my door last month and convinced me to try a one-month trial. I figured, why not? I wasn't going to lose anything out of it. So I went ahead and got it done--no issues with the internet itself or installation. The rep was a cool guy to talk to. Great person. But in the end, I decided to keep my original internet provider. So I called customer service to cancel my service a couple of days before the end of the 1-month trial. And here is my problem. The agent I talked to sounded like he would rather be anywhere but talking to me and doing his job. Sounded uninterested in anything. After collecting the necessary info and doing what needed to be done, he started to inquire about my provider service (which I get, gotta get data to try to be better), but he kept pushing for a reason I wanted to cancel (I didn't have any particular reason, just decided to keep my original provider). Then he tried to give me discounts and such to try to have me stay with the company, but I said no. Then he inquired about why I said no. Again, no particular reason, while still sounding like it was a chore and slightly off somehow. When we were finishing up, his voice finally picked up a bit while reading from a script that explains what will happen and what needs to be done on my end. Asked if I had any other questions, and in the middle of my asking, he hung up. No good-bye, have a nice day, or thanks for calling, nothing. I don't expect a happy-go-lucky person. It's customer service, I have been there. But what I do expect is to at least be courteous, and at least sound like doing your job is not a chore. I had Brightspeed for the last two years. Constantly had problems with connection going in and out. Went our the last time on the 17th of July. Called Brightspeed. They made 7 appointments to fix the problem and the technician failed to show up every time. Also they required me to wait for him on each occasion between 8am and 5pm. they never called to cancel or keep me up to date. they just rescheduled the next day. Everytime I called, they tried saying there was an issue with my equipment when I new it was there line. Then one day the had some guy duck taping the line back together and then it worked. Terrible. The EasyLife concierge enrolled me with automatic payment. I went into my account and there is NO way you can cancel or modify the payment except for calling them during business hours and was unable to reach them. Brightspeed must be trying to be the worst run company on the planet. We had been working on an upgrade for almost a year. An installation was planned for last December. I waited and Brightspeed was a no show. Turns out, the lines were not run to the house which was not a surprise because you cannot lay fiber optic lines in Michigan in the winter. We have . . . snowbanks. So it was rescheduled for June. The week prior, I received multiple texts confirming the installation. I took time off from work for the appointment and waited. Brightspeed was a no show, again. After making calls, I was told there would be no installation because the lines had not been installed, still. So the installation department does not communicate with the build-out department. So, I cancelled Brightspeed and went with a company that shows up. read more

We are NEW to the lake, and decided to try Brightspeed Internet. Drove 2000 miles from CA - MO to get here on time to meet the installer ‍ @ 1pm on Friday 9/19 (last week) to install the box and cables outside. After driving 11 hours on Friday - we ended with NO internet because the underground fiber had not been spliced for connection. Tech said he would try to get out on Monday 9/22 but NO GUARANTEE! I called Customer Service Monday 9/22 to confirm a date to splice the service. (OUTSOURCED TO THE PHILLIPINES). They confirmed a date for a week later on Friday 9/26 - YOUR KIDDING ME RIGHT! After 2 hours on phone calls I cancelled the order! I work from home and needed internet last Friday 9/19 upon arrival and as a result I have been going up to the TA Truck stop to access internet. Customer Service is outsourced which means the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing in the field. Mid afternoon, Tech called stating they spliced the cable but the order was cancelled and can't connect. Asked me to reorder that day. Longstory short I rescheduled for Wednesday 9/24 and when I called today to confirm my order it was found that the outsourced service failed to put the order in! So AGAIN NO INTERNET! I had a technician come out to check the installation of fiber optic to be used with all our phones. He fixed what we asked for and I was pleased, but as he went out of the door he said he install a router(which we didn't need) & said if we didn't want it we could send it back. By the time he finished talking he was in the truck. There was no return address and I didn't think I should have to pay to send it back. A week or two later I finally got someone on the line to listen to my complaint. The only problem I thought he did not tell me how to send the router back. He talked and talked and I guess I ended up saying I would try Brightspeed internet. The box came , but no one to install it, so now I have 2 routers and who knows what because I have not opened the box. I have internet and TV now with another company. I am satisfied with what we are using now. I want to know how to return the routers sitting in a chair in my living room and I do not want to be charged for any of it. I think the people that hire these people should not give instructions on how to get people to get something they don't ask for and don't want. Terrible company. History of my service. Opened 1984 under United Telephone. Some 20 years later acquired by CenturyLink. Same copper lines. Only option for internet. The comes along Brightspeed. Obtained antique copper lines with the purchase of a large Fiber Optic market somewhere else. Still no option so basically stuck with outdated service. Fast forward Brightspeed has no intention of service restoration. Within 2 miles of house multiple trees laying on the lines. My service was interrupted in June and Brightspeed was contacted multiple times and the company showed no intent to restore service. Outage due to pole across the road finally broke dropping the feed to my property. During this time Fiber optic was made available. Different company. I canceled service in July. Return their equipment per the instructions on a timely matter. End of August the company determines I am due $77.17 refund. Multiple times. Different stories but now Jan 2026. 6 months later. Best I can get is refund being processed. 6 months isn't acceptable for a simple refund that your company determined I was due. So BRIGHTSPEED. Brightspeed Internet connection is OK but the company sucks. They are ripping people off and won't stop when asked. I found out that I'm paying $50 more a month than my neighbor for the past two years. When I called to see why and to ask for lower rates and a credit, they said they couldn't lower my rate but the rep Anderson #23774 said all he could give me was a $30 credit. Later a floor supervisor QXB12180 said she couldn't lower my cost. Jay # 2413381 was the only helpful salesperson who tried hard to get things fixed. The connection is terrible, the technician that installed everything obviously didn't know what he was doing, they installed the box on the very farthest end of the house and when asked if it would work throughout the house said yes but didn't check in the slightest, and shocker IT DIDNT! I paid a $50 deposit to get Brightspeed and then after paying the deposit I went online to look at customer service reviews and they were atrocious, so I called and canceled the installation and requested the $50 deposit back That was on April 8th. I have yet to receive the refund. I've called several times and each time I have been given a different message and a different promise for when the deposit would be refunded. Today (over two and a half months later) the person I spoke with said they couldn't find a charge on my account, even though I see it on my credit card. My experience with their customer service department has been every bit as awful as the reviews I had been reading. I have had the same internet service since moving here years ago. l can't remember what it was originally but was bought by Century Link and most recently Brightspeed. I didn't have any issues all those years. last Year representatives from Brightspeed kept calling, emailing and showing up on my doorstep wanting me to upgrade to fiber. I wasn't interested because I was happy with what I had and locked in to a lower price. They finally talked me into letting them upgrade connection with guarantee service would be just as good and honor my current price locked in. It has been 4 months since they installed boxes through my wall and ran the fiber optic line from front of house around side and all the way across the back yard. They came and buried a second line that isn't hooked to anything and left the other one in the yard. I have been calling for 4 months talking to at least 20 different people. I have called the agent multiple times as he told me to if I had problems. 2 weeks ago his number was no longer available. today the supervisor I spoke with for almost two hours told me my only option was for them to change my service to media com at a higher rate and I would be charged for installation.
