I have rarely had true hard times in my life until I moved to Memphis. I had plans that failed, so…read morein desperation I had to reach out for help. That is when the name Jesse Thrower was change my life for the better. I had no where to turn and no prospects. I was directed to 600 Poplar to begin finding services. This man was patient, he had kind words of encouragement, he made me laugh and all in all was able to make me believe it was going to turn out alright in the end. So fast forward a couple years, I am a success story. I have even been able to return the favors he bestowed to me by donating back. He is a wonderful, proper, caring individual. His guidance and insight is needed desperately when the chips are down. He never sugar-coats anything. But that man, Mr. Jesse is a God-send. Without him, so many more would be less than they are now. He keeps tabs on his "kids". He cares. It is a beautiful thing when he cares like a father. He cares when no one else does. I have been to the other mission. There was no help. All the help I received was from 600 Poplar. Mr. Jesse is in charge for a reason. He is the best to help you out to see long term how to fix the problems you are in. You do have to work but he will help you if you put in the effort. God bless him always and keep him safe! We need leaders like him!

He clothes the poor and checks on his people whom others have forgotten or care to look the other way at. He tries to treat the ones he is helping with dignity and a caring to help them become stable and independent. The goal is to be a place to rebuild but to fully heal on your own ad to be reintroduced back into the world. He is wonderful and tries hard to be respectful. A gentle giant. If you work with him, he will try to help you to become what you need to become. It is up to you what you become of but he has blessings of clothing donations and whatever the public can bring. He sees the need and tries to balance the donations to needs. the goal is to become self-sufficient so you must go in thinking about your own personal goals and how to obtain them. He helps but you need to start your life quickly. Poverty knows no color, it knows no race and it burdens even the best of us. When you can finally look past yourself and find the happiness of helping your fellow man again, then you are truly saved again and healing. It is hard but look around and see the bigger need of working together and then all this will end and you will be successful again.

The initial collection was started by John King, a Memphis native that founded Ardent Records with ties to the music scene as a musician, promoter, and more. This is a legendary establishment. Quite frankly, a gem that should be preserved. Every time I visit, I try to donate to their cause. I hope to one day contribute to their collection by donating vinyls as well. With so many available options, some respectable relics, some new, as a listener there will be no problem finding something to enjoy. If you're new to the Listening Lab, I recommend asking the vinyl conservator for guidance. Be sure to have in mind what you'd like to listen to, perhaps even ready for a recommendation too! The VPI players are EXTREMELY high quality and deserve the highest care for preservation of this beautiful facility. They even have a dedicated sound room for the ultimate hi-fi experience. The listening space is beautiful, with great views and comfortable seating. Overall, it's a magnificent and top-notch establishment. I love coming here and dedicating a moment or two to a listening experience.

The free weights and weight machines work well, though there are only so many available. The cafeteria never seems open, everything is covered in chalk, and until recently there were never any cleaning wipes. But nobody should be going here just for those things, so the review shouldn't be about that. This is a great climbing gym. If you climb, go here. More importantly, the mission is great, the people are better, and everyone should support more institutions like this. It's a fantastic community resource.

Memphis Rox is in the neighborhood with Stax Museum at McLemore Ave. There is parking behind the building. The area is very spacious, clean, and well organized from supplies to pricing. There is a waiver to sign before beginning, and can be completed online or in person. The employees are very approachable and helpful. They guide you through the space, explain the layout, and are very welcoming to first timers. There are the assorted walls, but also a gym, yoga area, boxing area, and juice bar. side note: restrooms passed. They are clean, and there's a shower with towels available. There are lockers on the wall for personal belongings. There are also lockers near the bathrooms, but you'll need your own lock for those. There are several walls for varying levels of experience. Each area is cushioned, so if you do fall, you won't be hitting concrete. We changed into rock climbing shoes. You wear one size up from your normal shoe size. We had the choice of either free climbing the smaller walls or lessons in the back. The instructor was with us while he explained the smaller walls and you, for lack of better term, climb by color. A lot of us climbed the free walls. I went with the lesson on the back wall. Our instructor was awesome! With 10 first timers, he did an excellent job. I learned how to do a 10 point knot several times, and how to put on climbing gear. You do it over and over, but it makes perfect sense because you're preparing to do it independently. It ended up being three of us. This training definitely takes trust, because you learn how to tie yourself to climb, but you're also dependent on your partner to help you down the wall. The climb was so much fun! I almost got to the top of the wall. We alternated climbing up and guiding our partner down, and then we got our certification for completing the lesson. The last part of the party was food. I had the turkey burger, and it was REALLY good. It was tender and well seasoned. The berry smoothie was also really good. I'll give this one a rating: new climbs and good times. I had an awesome time here, and it was fun meeting new people and always fun trying new things. Definitely check this place out.
