We've spent a wonderful two nights at the Bull and the interesting little town of Bridport and…read moresurrounds. We were welcomed warmly on arrival and directed to park behind the hotel (free!), shown to our room on the second floor. Commenting on the hotel and accommodation: it's an old coaching house, so has all the creaks and structural foibles you'd expect of an ancient building. It's been recently refurbished and is looking very swish. They've made clever and considered use of the spaces, and the decor is sensitive and creative. I really loved the small details, like the retro mirrors, the sheepskin rug, the wool bed-throw and prints of the local area on the walls. The bed was big and very comfortable. The only complaint was the seagull noise at 4am - squawking up a hell of a racket. I closed and locked the sash-windows the next night which made a difference. The bathroom was light and spacious, and they offer Bramley products which are all 'nasty' free. Highly recommended. Commenting on the food and dining: There are inside and outside dining and drinking spaces. We ate dinner and breakfast inside on both occasions. The tables are small, so you struggle to find space for everything, but beyond that, the food is exceptional. The wine-by-the-glass is competitively priced and was of a high standard. We ate fresh fish, seafood, beef and lamb and it was all exquisite. The kitchen are doing a great job, and if I look at the reviews from the years preceeding, I can see that the Bull have really striven to do better and exceed expectations. Service was good, not overly familiar nor invisible. All staff seem to be well trained and familiar with the food, and in so doing were able to make their own recommendations. Book ahead for dinner, it is becoming more popular.

I know they are busy but the bar was littered with glasses and technically I shouldn't have to stand at a bar with my 15 year old daughter. It's actually illegal. The rooms and the pub are very clean. Especially the staff and owners convince with their friendliness. The breakfast was ok. It is quite loud in the rooms. Like so often in England. With earplugs it works. In the double bed you lie on one very soft mattress and share a blanket. If one moves, the other one notices it immediately. So we slept very badly. Nevertheless, the overall impression remains a very good one.

Recent management change and the early signs are highly promising - seem like a great couple, down from running wine bars in the London area. Lovely small bar with a kitchen area off to the side.
