I looked for another space and found something with very professional poeple who responded within hours, and contracts were done in a few days- that's how you do business, not at MMAC. Despite following up by email several times, I did not receive a response. By early April, I had given up and missed the opportunity to book the space for May. Based on this experience, I recommend considering other venues, as they do not appear interested in working with potential clients.

The management team is hard to reach and barely responds, one of the managers for programming actually flat out lies, and the teacher does not have the right engagement/interest/knowledge to how to teach young kids. Almost every class we attended started 5-10 minute late and ended early (and they blamed needing to wait for all kids to line up to go to the classroom.... Pretty dumb excuse to delay a start. I think it's because the teacher doesn't have the right strategy to teach. Put on a tutu with other kids, throw on some nursery music, build an obstacle and apparently that can be called a 'dance' class.

Simone presented multiple options on how the lessons would occur and we opted for virtual lessons instead of in person lessons because my dance partner and I would have trouble commuting into NYC. I was worried about how effective these lessons would be, in an NYC living space with an instructor giving the lessons virtually. Relax, have no fear, Simone will be there! She even has a dancing dummy to demonstrate how Person A and Person B should stand/dance/act. Even with lessons conducted via video chat, Simone was able to catch the minor details that we would not have caught or even considered if we were to "learn" via Youtube (which a few of our friends did for their weddings, and it was obvious). For example, while doing a dip, Simone saw an opportunity and suggested that my partner (while being dipped) move her hand in a more graceful manner, a small movement added so much more meaning. We went in with no dancing skills and no idea what to do for choreography. All we had was our first dance song. After after lots of practice and guidance from Simone, when our first dance was performed, it was met with lots of cheer and practically a standing ovation from our friends and family when we hit the climax of the song and dance. Go with Simone. Don't underestimate the value of virtual lessons. She expressed patience and joy in helping us and I know she will continue to do so with all her customers.

I've been taking the online lunchtime dance workout class over Zoom for the last year and a half now, and it has been a lifesaver while working from home. It's a great opportunity to get some movement going in mid-day when I otherwise would be sitting in a chair all day. After the half hour class, I feel energized for the rest of my day. Also, the workout itself is mostly low impact, so I don't have to worry about getting too sweaty and needing to get a shower right away before going back to work. The dance steps are very accessible and she offers various modifications to the dance and workout level for people of different abilities.

I never would have consist ballet for me but this is extremely accessible. American liberty. Ballet is a small ballet company that teaches and performs in ny and nj. The dance school helps to support the dance company. Currently their space is under construction but the company and school busy rehearsing and preparing for many upcoming performances. The school is based on four levels from absolute beginner to advanced beginner. All of the instructors are extremely friendly and well practiced. The school is available for all ages!! That means children and adults!!!! This past year I was able to perform in a ballet for the first time in my life. It was quite an enriching experience. As someone who was genuinely excited to try something new and empowering, I was shocked by how publicly dismissive the instructor was. Aaron moved me out of the front of the class and made a comment in front of everyone implying that those who don't know the steps should stay in the back. This wasn't helpful--it was humiliating. Several people laughed, and the energy shifted from welcoming to shameful in seconds. I've never been treated like that in a learning space. I reached out to the studio about the experience, and the response I got was a rushed, copy-paste message offering me another class without actually addressing what happened. No accountability. No sincere apology. Just a blanket statement saying their instructors are "caring" when my experience clearly says otherwise. If you're a true beginner looking for a safe and encouraging environment to try heels dance--this was not it. I hope the studio takes better responsibility in the future for how instructors treat new students.
