When I moved down to the South Bay with my wife, I felt like I needed to find a new church so I could be attending a place that was in my community. What I first noticed was that this church was very full of sincere and friendly people. It is a small church, but very diverse. It's nice seeing the same people if you attend more than once, that's the downside to really big churches in my opinion. The facility is very nice, and the chairs are comfortable. Pastor Christian, or PC, is a good speaker and easy to follow. There are programs for young children, as well. read more

What many churchgoers may not know about this church is that this church kicked out a pre-school/kindergarten/day care in the name of God. I guess the correct terminology here is "chose not to renew the lease for the preschool that was located in the spacious backyard of the church. Why? To expand the parking space available to churchgoers. As a fellow Christian, I somehow feel that this is a rather greedy move by the church all in the name of God: Sacrifice kids for more money via larger church attendance via larger lot. Again all very legal but immoral in my mind. I hear the church community IS nice and diverse but cliquish. I'll add a star back in for that. 2 stars. read more

My wife and I joined Bridge church several months ago. Things we greatly enjoy: -Small congregation - you'll know most folks within a few months. Only one service! -Diversity - the church is English-Spanish bi-lingual. While I don't speak Spanish, I love that worship songs are sung in both languages and appreciate the diversity of the Kensington crowd mixed with the City Heights crowd. -Christ Centered - this church is all about the Great Commission: go and make disciples, baptize them, and teach them! Just moved from L.A to San Diego and I've been looking for a church that will strengthen my faith and bring rejuvenation every Sunday. This church has been a perfect match for me. People are so nice and welcoming that you feel immediately integrated into this community. Anytime I attend service I'm learning how to draw nearer to Christ through discipleship. Last amazing thing is that you can have the choice between English service or Spanish service - they have two pastors. And at the end, we come back all together to pray and worship in Spanish and English. read more

This is one of the best churches I have ever been apart of in San Diego! I love it for the following reasons: 1) it's not too big 2) everyone is friendly and nice 3) very family oriented 4) bi-lingual (Spanish) Pastor Stephen is amazing! He is smart and funny in his sermons and breaks down the bible in a way that anyone could understand and relates the stories to our everyday lives. My family and I love The Harbor Church because we meet great people and are able to give back to the community that we live in in a positive way. Just moved to San Diego from Alabama and we have been going here for about a month. We absolutely love being a part of this church family. And family really is what this church is. We feel like family when we attend Harbor Mid City. Everyone is so nice and has a sincere interest in your well being. We love the diversity that is Harbor Mid City. San Diego's hidden gem. After moving to San Diego, I had a hard time finding a great church. I reached out to my former LA pastor and asked him for recommendations. He mentioned Harbor and what a dear friend Pastor Stephen is to him. So I give it a try. If you hate church and can't stand the "holy huddle" then this is the place for you. Instead of following the same formula that many "Christian" churches follow these days, Harbor reaches out to the community with true love. Harbor also looks inward and has dutifully strengthened the body of Christ through discipleship and amazing worship. If you're looking for a new church home or maybe just curious about who Jesus is, come check out Harbor. Oh man. I didn't mention this a "bridge church." We sing some songs in English and some in Spanish. Jesus isn't just for the English speaking folks of San Diego. This church bridges cultural, language, and socio-economic barriers. If only Yelp had in between ratings, HPC-MC falls somewhere between 2 / 3 stars but they are getting the lower due to the staff of the church (trickle down idea is a real thing). As you can see from my previous reviews I worked at Harbor for 2.5 years in the children's ministry and LOVED doing so, for about the last year of my time and then after I no longer worked there I decided to really pursue community at Harbor, plug in with a community group, try to volunteer my time elsewhere in the church, that was the point at which things went down hill. I realized that the congregation was very clique-ish, and hard to get really plugged into authentic community, there are various degrees of issues with staff, and for the most part, the groups are closed off to newcomers and will not pursue relationship outside of church activities... If you are looking to develop authentic relationships and have a family like faith-community I would look elsewhere. Lastly, I want it to be known that there are a good handful of people that are the exception to this and that are wonderful, loving, and authentic passion with a heart for the community and newcomers that pour their time, resources and energy into Harbor but they are the exception, not the rule. read more

I've been attending Harbor for a little over a year. The first time I attended I left thinking wow, this is what church is supposed to be like and I am so excited to become a part of this church. There are two main reasons why I felt this way: the church community and the heart behind the church's mission. I'll start by describing the church community. On any given Sunday morning you will find people arriving early to church excited to see one another. After church, people stick around to spend time with one another and oftentimes people naturally want to go get lunch together somewhere nearby. The people at Harbor genuinely care for you as a person. I've been through some hardships in life since I started attending the church and I felt loved and accepted enough to open up to other people in the church. I experienced firsthand that they really care for you as a person and will be a good friend to you during both good and hard times. The other quality that makes the community stand out is it is exceptionally welcoming and inviting. This is so well reflected in the diversity. of people who attend Harbor. Different races, age groups, and socioeconomic backgrounds are represented here and feel free to relate with one another. My one word of advice is that you must invest a little effort into getting to know people. While they are very welcoming, it takes time to build relationships, but I promise if you put in a little effort you will get a lot in return : ) The heart of the church undoubtedly contributes to why the community at Harbor is so great. The church is centered around the good news of Jesus and the hope that brings into our lives. It was clear from the first sermon I heard that the goal wasn't to teach you how to be a good person, but was to help you understand that God loves you and how the gospel has profound meaning for your life. Because the focus here is centered around a relationship with God rather than doing good works, people are naturally more motivated to honor God with the things that they do both in the church and in the community. This has been so refreshing for me and has made being a part of church activities very life-giving and enjoyable. read more

Bridge church is such a special church! People there are very friendly and they make you feel welcome since day one. This church is very focus on HELPING people and you feel that you can be involved in helping and being helped. Pastor Stephen has such an amazing way of delivering his sermons in a very clear way with examples and lessons that can be used by all of us in our daily lives. I love that it is a very diverse church and you can definitely feel the spirit of God working in the lives of many. Me and my husband became much stronger as a couple since we joined Bridge Church! I've been coming here for 6 months and love this church, it's a diverse bunch(English and Spanish as well as different economic levels) and I think about anyone would feel welcome. My husband, daughter and I really love Sunday worship services at Harbor Mid-City Church! Such a warm, inviting, community of people--It's diversified by ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic backgrounds-EVERYONE has a place here. We also have our daughter in the nursery and she does so well! i really love this church. I am in a post college community group and leading a DM group. Those are just two out of many ways to get involved. I also have found a great community for post college here at this church. Our church is also unique in that it is bilingual. This really challenges me in my faith because the mission of the church is to love and renew the city and our neighbors thru Jesus. What a better way to love and share Jesus in different languages and culture! I feel like we are always reminded of the Gospel which is the most important thing about a church. Of all the churches I've been to, and believe me, I've been to plenty, not one of them has made me feel as loved and cherished for simple being a fellow human being as Bridge Church has. And that's because every one of its members truly loves and follows Jesus Christ and wants to share that love with everyone they meet. Regardless of your background or church experience, if you come to Bridge Church, you will feel appreciated and at home. The members of this church have a genuine faith in God and a desire to honor Him in every part of their lives and that's what keeps me coming back.
