The venue seats less than 100 people but my gosh, you are here to experience the arts! The acoustics are perfect and you are very close to the stage! Where else can you come to a otherwise abandoned spot like this, hidden deep in a church basement, and see a wonderful live performance? So, the bathroom is a bit of a maze journey away through cluttered hallways. There are faded religious murals on the walls and ceilings. Some areas were last dusted at the turn of the previous century. There is an ancient basketball court within the labyrinth. There are old rooms full of broken down furniture, lumber, and dusty books. In the theater itself, the seats are definitely not as comfy as a barcalounger. Who cares? Frankly, I'd be happy if they handed me a milk crate to sit on. This is the arts people! Every play has to start somewhere!

We were just here recently to see Bedbugs!!! The Musical…read more Yes, we actually saw a musical about Bedbugs, don't laugh. It was actually an epic performance! I wish I could say that about the actual venue. It's small. I mean tiny in a cramped way. Only about 100 seats so the view of the stage is pretty good no matter where you sit. The seat in front of me was wedged up against my knees. If you are a bigger/taller person you are screwed unless you get first row to stretch out a bit. No real AC to speak of so be prepared to be a bit warm on a hot day. Yay! Swamp ass! It's in the basement of a church and looks like an old bomb shelter. Finding the bathrooms is like being trapped in a maze. The paintings of Jesus and saints on the ceiling overlook the audience. Kind of a weird spot, but hey, it is off Broadway and the price can't be beat if it's a good show. The seats are horribly uncomfortable. Thank goodness for an intermission to get up and walk around a bit. After two hours I felt like I was being tortured. My ass was killing me! I do have to say that the acoustics here are pretty good, as was the lighting and stage effects. It's definitely an intimate spot to see a performance. Just be prepared to rough it a bit as compared to seeing a show in a more upscale venue.

They even clean their pens between visitors! I'd never been to this theater before but it was a really magical experience -- literally! New Orleans voodoo style. I recently read the book "in the garden of good and evil" (i think that's the name) and that book gave me a whole new appreciation for this inventive tarot art experience. Garden of Eden is an immersive art experience with a dab of museum, a dollop of that really cool crazy aunt/grandmother's house, a spoonful of voodoo, a sprinkle of theater, a dash of fortune telling, and a splash of other world halloween creepies. While the price tag may seem hefty, remember you are supporting a wide variety of professionals and keeping alive theater during the economic crush of covid. Ok - here it is Saturday afternoon and I am finally sober enough to type this review of the beer…read morefest. I was absolutely blotto last night after this. Even more so after downing more drinks at Raines Law Room afterwards. I literally forgot my own name last night. My friend Sean and I got on line at around 7:30 and had to wait until doors opened at 8. Yes, it was raining out but at least we were kept entertained by some crazy drunk girl that was kicked out of the earlier session. She was actually foaming at the mouth while screaming out stupid nonsense to everyone. When doors opened we got in quickly and proceeded to get a few beers within a minute. Yes! The event was held in a nice event space in the Altman building. Well air conditioned, bright, and clean bathrooms. There were food and beer stands along the walls, and a main beer area set up in the middle with about 100 beers on tap all labeled and numbered. Terrific variety of beers to choose from. Light, dark, malty, creamy, reds, ambers, stouts, you name it. At one point near the end we were just calling out numbers to slug down beer after beer, With some of these in the 7-10% alcohol content we were feeling no pain. There was also a band playing throughout, and a downstairs area with communal benches and tables. I honestly can't remember too much more as I lost my mind by the end of the night. All I know is that we sampled a lot of terrific Belgian style beers. All the servers working the stations were cool and the event staff was nice and helpful. The crowd was not too bad either. It was busy but they did not oversell it. Never had to wait too long on lines. Plus, waited until the day before and Groupon put up a $40 ticket deal so we saved big time. Now I have to drink more tonight at a UYE German restaurant event. My liver hates me. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hitting this up tonight as the beer festival started today! Located in the Altman Bldg on West 18th street. Afternoon and evening sessions Fri and Sat. Hundreds of Belgian style beers to imbibe and sample. Good God this is gonna be epic! Will update review when I'm sober!

"I'm never drinking again"…read more That was the first thing that went through my head as I woke up at 6am Saturday morning, having attended the late session of the Belgian Beer Festival the previous night. This was a very well organized event. I was expecting massive crowds and long lines for beer and food. There was a pretty long line outside to get in but Phil H. and I got there pretty early and were lucky enough to be entertained by a crazy, screaming drunk girl from the afternoon session. They took care of checking everyone's tickets and stamping our hands while we were on line so at 8pm we were shuffled in with no delay. Once inside we were given a souvenir tasting glass, which I ended up way to drunk to keep track of at the end of the night. For three hours we were treated to tons of great Belgian and Belgian-style beers, mostly on tap and a few in bottles. The toughest part of the night was picking what to drink. I didn't have the same beer twice the entire night! In addition to the beer there was plenty of good snack from Luke's Lobster, My Friend's Mustard, and a few others. I did just read on their site that the first session was apparently littered with problems. Fortunately they cleared those up or did a great job of masking them by the time the evening session began. All in all it was a great night! The organizers put on a good event. It was crowded but nowhere near packed. We didn't wait more than a minute for anything. I look forward to attending more of Get Real NY's events.

Kjersti Faret, the artist behind the label "Cat Coven" selling cat buttholes on prints to enamel pins. But that's not all...there is also witchraft items, coffee love and affection for whiskey and all things goth. Her merch ranges from patches, shirts, enamel pins, dresses and prints. I had to go down tthe maze of a building into the basement and all the way down the hall to finally find this cat lover's lair. I was greated with tons to see and I will also saving on shipping which was the big draw. Kjesti was there and sweet as ever. There was also whiskey to be had for those who dared. I left with a gorgeous tshirt dress and a skull coffee pot enamel pin. The artist was nice enough to take a pic on my phone since, there was no mirrors. I checked out the rest of the studios while I was there. It was a labirynth of fun creatives minds. One of my new faves was Skullboy, Louise de Villiers with his black and white creations from creatures to hands. I liked the little enclosed altar too wiht pbr, smokes and small art. It gave me a Venice Beach surfer vibe. I guess he's from South Africa so it's a little far from SoCal. Then I chatted for a long time with Jose Arenas. He was super sweet and I likes his biographical collage work. He knows how to lure people in with plates of coooooookiesss!!! Delicious! I also can relate to his background of being born in America but having Latin roots and upbrining. I can't wait for he next open studios! Thanks for a great Sunday afternoon! This was a great adventure to local artist and seeing their process.
